Hifin Snapper
Symphorichthys spilurus
Fast growing fish. Likes to hide. The threadfin snapper must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. It has a golden yellow body flanked by bright blue horizontal bars, two vertical black head bands and a dark caudal spot. Is fairly hardy as far as snappers go. Will eat smaller tank mates. Juvenile coloration is slightly different than adult coloration.
Maximum Size: the Symphorichthys spilurus grows up to 24 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Hifin Snapper prefers a tank of at least 180 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Symphorichthys spilurus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of chopped meats (fish, scallop, shrimp, squid, clam) (a few times/day).
Level of Care: The Hifin Snapper is a high maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Hifin Snapper may act semi-aggressively toward other fish.
Hardiness: This is a hardy fish.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
Range: Indo-Pacific.
