Variola louti

Since groupers are generally larger fish, it is recommended waste removal efforts be increased within the aquarium system. Variola louti (Forsskal 1775), the Skunk or Yellow-Edged Lyretail Grouper.

Maximum Size: the Variola louti grows up to 36 inches.

Minimum Tank Size: The Lyretail Grouper prefers a tank of at least 300 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Diet: The Variola louti is a carnivore and likes to eat meaty treats (like krill, small fish, shrimp).

Level of Care: The Lyretail Grouper is a low maintenance fish.

Behavior: The Lyretail Grouper may act aggressively toward other fish.

Hardiness: This is a hardy fish.

Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).

Range: Indo-Pacific.
