Spotted Cardinal
Sphaeramia nematoptera
Sphaeramia nematoptera (Bleeker 1856), the Pajama Cardinalfish. West Pacific. A long-standing favorite in the aquarium trade. Second perhaps only to the Banggai in use. The Spotted Cardinal is commonly found in small schools in amongst the branches of various types of branching Corals. In the home aquarium small groups can be kept with the decor having various crevices, and cave like ledges. While this species has been bred in captivity, it has not been bred as extensively as the Banggai Cardinal, the Spotted Cardinal is a mouth brooder as well. There is a possibility that sexual differences can be distinguished through the length of the pectoral fins, but is inconclusive. |
