Description

Genicanthus melanospilus

Genicanthus melanospilos (Bleeker 1857), the Black-Spot Angelfish. Similar to G. caudovittatus. One of the more brightly colored of its Genus, the Swallowtail Angel is an excellent species to have in the home aquarium. Like its cousins, the Swallowtail Angel feeds on Zooplankton, not Sponges, Corals or any other sessile Invertebrate. This makes it an excellent candidate for a Reef type aquarium or a community aquarium with other Angels.

Maximum Size: the Genicanthus melanospilus grows up to 7 inches.

Minimum Tank Size: The SwallowTail Angel prefers a tank of at least 80 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Diet: The Genicanthus melanospilus is a omnivore and likes to eat Omnivore. Feeds primarily on Zooplankton. Should be offered frozen Mysis, Plankton, and other frozen foods..

Level of Care: The SwallowTail Angel is a medium maintenance fish.

Behavior: The SwallowTail Angel may act semi-aggressively toward other fish.

Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).

Range: Western Pacific: South China Sea and Indonesia to Fiji, north to the Ryukyus, south to Rowley Shoals and New Caledonia; Palau in Micronesia..
