  1. r u chio ruff? hehe..

    Hey bwilly

Yep me woman or chio .. 4 no better word ;) I agree with U guys that this hooby is no walk in the park & B4 U know it thousands of $$ have been spent. MayB U R right, pple who R not willing 2 spend that amount of $$ should not even embark on marine keeping. Personally my tank is less than 2 months & we've already spent a couple of hundreds. Yes its definitely not nice to ask strangers 4 freebies, I dun advocate that at all. I just thought that mayB he was being genuine coz there R pple who R passionate about starting marine keeping but just dun have enugh dough at the present time. MayB they need a little help 2 get started. I didn't know he asked 4 other things B4 but I have seen other pple asking 4 this & that. Guys U must remember that there R pple who want 2 take up this hobby seriously but just can't, due 2 their financial situation/circumstances presently. Sometimes its not that they do not want 2 buy the best in the market, its just they can't afford 1 at the moment. In any hobby, there R high end stuff & budget buys. It doesn't mean that we can't buy the best/everything, that we R not able 2 indulge in our hobbies. Hobbies R meant 2 relax/amuse/keep our sanity when we R stressed, etc.

Everyone at their own pace & time...

Just my humble opinion, that all ... not directed at anyone :)

  2. Maybe I very 'kaypoh' type lor...I do apologise if I have hurt your 'manly' feelings too...

    Hey flubberina

U're not "kaypoh" lah .. just a very conscientious person, like the way U stand up 4 the underdogs & yr "peace-making ways". I think its "hard" to be a woman (like U & me) in a MAN's marine world. MayB we women R more lor sor .. hehe ;) , but can't help it lah .. I think its in our nature! I know this is :off: Sorry guys!

P.S : I think flubberina is right, Seamarine might B a newbie that got scared off by all the jibes. Think he was seriously thinking that someone might B willing 2 pass him something thats no longer needed (rather than 2 throw its away - wasted!).

  3. then you got to take the morning-after pill..... haha

I dun think U should take the morning after pill, esp 4 men .. hehe!

    Taken frm www.contraception.net :

    The "Morning After" Pill

    What is it?

The "morning after" pill is a combined ###### contraceptive which contains a high dose of the female hormones, estrogen and progestin. The morning after pill actually consists of four combined ###### contraceptives tablets. You take two of the tablets with water immediately and two tablets 12 hours later.

    How does it work?

The "morning after" pill should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected ######. Ideally, you should take the pills within 24 hours of having unprotected intercourse, but it can work up to 72 hours later. The morning after pill works in the same way that OCs do - they prevent a pregnancy from starting by preventing ovulation.

P.S : The above is for info only, NOT 2 encourage unprotected s**. Please take the necessary precautions 2 prevent accidental conception/diseases.

  4. hey leopard cat is a catfish

Oops wrong cat ... LOL ;)

Rufff >>> I feed my burmese vegetables.

Didn't know Burmese eat veggies .. hehe.

Hmmmm..how would you define domesticated? In my opinion, all my pets are already domesticated. Well...none of them bite.Better than certain 'domesticated' dogs that bite.

LOL .. I agree. Some pets do bite & some incessantly bark .. like our neighbour's 2 irritating dogs, always barking when we go into our kitchen.

the rabbits did multiply....they r the first batch...another one comin soon

As our guinea pigs R both females, they didn't propagate. Purposely bought females coz guniea pigs/rabbits/hamsters R known 2 multiply in great numbers. What do U use as yr rabbit's bedding? Newspapers? We use "Breeder's Choice", its pretty good at soaking wetness.

  5. Hey I've got plenty in my tank yesterday. At 1st thought its debris or something then realised it was crawling on the glass. Soooo many of them! Aiyoh what R those? Sea lice or fleas?? Do they attack the fishes? How 2 get rid of them ... they send chills down my spine! Yucks! Can anyone recommend ways 2 get rid of them B4 they propogate further ..

    :thanks:

  6. Agree with U guys. It can B quite "challenging", trying 2 source 4 some of the info. Not everyone has the luxury 2 read each post & sometimes it gets very confusing lah (4 me anyway) ... information overload! ;) It would B nice if the common questions & answers get complied in a relevant section/pinned so its easier 4 everyone 2 access. Also convenient 4 newbies 2 check up all the newbie questions. MayB this won't infuriate the seniors so much coz D newbies R asking the sames questions repeatedly.

I dun know, just my humble opinion as a newbie, mayB I'm wrong.

  7. Wah everyone's got so many interesting pets. R some of U guys over in Malaysia? Dun think many Singaporeans keep exotic pets, mostly domesticed. Hehe ... I thought I was the only 1 who had tons of pets. Many pple call it a mini zoo but mine is "tame" compared 2 U guys ... LOL. Wish can C some of yr pets .. just love animals. :D

Diabolus – Your terrier get along with yr Persian? How old is yr cat?

(PS : Captivating jumping pair in yr avatar ;) )

Gatecrasher – Wah horsey .. dun know anyone who has 1 …

Ah d3x – Wah U have a platoon! U got someone 2 help U our take care of them?

Dispar_anthias - Where U keep yr leopard cat? What does it eat, catfood? I love cats!

Fuel - What do U feed yr burmese? Mice?

Juan Rahmat - Do yr parrots talk?

Ridemth - What R sugar gliders? Did yr rabbits multiply? Big group U have there.

Some of the names/species dun know lah but they ALL sound very exotic 2 me. Keep the spirit going guys. Glad 2 know that I'm not the only crazy pet owner around.

P.S : This is a very very interesting group of pet owners :eyebrow:

  8. Hey

Since we R all animal lovers here (marine or otherwise), care 2 share if U have other pets. MayB we can share other info on pet raising or where 2 find cheaper products locally.

    Me have D following :

    1. 1 senior tabby tom cat (13 years old)

    2. 2 female guine pigs

    3. 1 male hamster

    4. 1 female Luohan

    5. 3 Albino Oscars (dun know their ######)

    6. New marine tank - 2 damsels, 1 Cleaner Shrimp

    Thats all 4 now.

  9. OK AT

I guess that explains why my fishes died huh? (Why R D damsels & CS still alive??) Won't B buying any LS anytime soon. Will try 2 solve "problems" with setup B4 moving forward.

1 off-topic question - will I B able 2 add more live rocks in the future after the tank's established? It will increase the No2,No3's etc, thus endangering my LS rite?

    :thanks: once again.

  10. hmmm... either your tank not cycled, if not it's "bio-overloaded"

Huh not cycled? Aiyoh, really?? But its over a month oredi .. thot its OK by now, mayB I'm wrong ... :(

Suggest you redo your tank with right equipment & procedure. IMO, 2ft can keep marine successfully if you do it correctly. Some basic marine books even show you how to set up under gravel filter. Its just not suitable for long run. Don't think your problem lies with that since its only a month.

Yeah seems like I need 2 redo the right way. UGF doesnt seem to win favour, I think its wise 4 me 2 change 2 better filtration system.

FYI, I don't even test water parameter with new setup. Everything will be in order when I did it correctly.

Yeah at 1st thout not necessary 2 test water conditions, but its seems the usual practise & safer for yr aquarium contents, so shall follow their lead. Last time kept FW never tested anything .. hehe (fish even flourished). I guess different style 4 different game.

Nori: AT (boss) actually posted a review on nori. Its actually those dark purple seaweed that we mix with steamboat. Can get it anywhere, like ntuc or market. Remember not to buy those nicely packed japanese brand. Problem is getting some fish to try it.

Yeah bought the same brand (saw its pic in forum). Fishes didn't fancy them. Well I tried .. :)

    Anyway, :thanks: 4 yr input.

  11. Hi AT

    1. Yeah .. know tank's tiny. Small by choice for now, coz didn't want 2 jump into a hobby thats been described as "tough" & $$ consuming. Will probably upgrade when more experienced & capable of handling a bigger tank.

    2. Hehe .. now I know the undergravel filter's unsuitability. Will look into changing that ASAP. Guess we all learn frm mistakes.

    3. Yeah .. didn't know that angels/butterfly R sensitive creatures & not suitable 4 beginners. Will definitely take note of that.

    4. Water parameters ... OK will test & give details.

Thanx 4 taking the time 2 answer my queries. Everyone's been a great help.

  12. Yep

Saw the half-bodied lobster too. When I 1st saw it, thought it was dead but it was moving happily in the small tank. Thou I think its some kind of new breed/specimen or something, created by mankind. If I'm not wrong there's an article pasted somewhere in the shop that sums the origins of the mutant lobster. (Personally didn't read the article but were told by friends).

If U gotta chance, go see it & judge 4 yourself.

  13. Hey Crab

Appreciate yr help. OK my filtration system's not great. Using undergravel filter with Grade 5 Coral Chips (recommended by that shop in B***t T***h, said its good enough .. yeah rite! <_< ). Being new/ignorant & not wanting 2 spend too much, was gullible enough 2 believe its sufficient. Also using top filter (balance-off old freshwater set-up), with new bio-balls, active carbon & sponge. Thinking seriously of changing filtration system (didn't expect 2 get bio-overload easily coz not much in small tank, only LS & 3 small LR).

Yeah angels & butterflys do seem gentle & sensitive; but they look soo beautiful & elegant. Must seriously consider a quarantine tank next time, better 2 B safe than sorry.

OK question ... how do I reduce salinity & PH in the tank? How 2 measure? (PH test kit??). Dun know whats Osmotic Shock (sounds scary .. hehe). Will try 2 get Paraguard to dose. Already soaking mysis shrimps in home-made garlic juice. Tried feeding them nori to up their resistance but no avail.

Yeah chasing them was torture ... definitely stressful 4 the fishy-ies. Didn't know need 2 adjust freshwater PH for dip either. Yeah heard copper is BAD thats why purposely went out of way 2 get copper safe meds.

    Well , :thanks: again!

  14. Hey guys

Thanx 4 quick reply, its really informative & useful. Will try some of your suggestions. Really hope that my squad will survive this itch invasion. U mean its overstocked?? Ooh didn't know. Nope I didn't add the fishes all at once, several batches actually. I guess it could be the stress of living is such a small tank after being caught from the vast ocean.

This forum has been a good starting ground 4 beginners like me, 2 get a feel of the whats & hows of marine keeping. Its been a great book of knowledge. I guess it helps that the local context is relevant & current so we can easily check things out 4 ourselves.

Once again, thanx so much 4 yr wise words & hope that every1 will B as helpful & gracious, especially 2 newbies like me.

    Cheers!

  15. Hi Razo

Size of tank only 2ft (normal sized one). Used to have 2 butterfly, 1 angel (the 3 that died); 1 Clownfish, 2 damsels & 1 cleaner shrimp (these 4 still alive, but Nemo is kinda on the verge). No didn't add fishes while cycling., water's steady now. Fishes R new addition. Water conditions seem OK, like NO2 & NO3 (that much I know). R there other things I need 2 watch out 4?

    P.S :

Hehe .. giving up meant starting all over again (cycle water etc.), frm scratch not giving up totally, marine keeping is too fun 2 give up 2 soon. So much 2 learn ...

  16. Hi

New 2 marine club. My tank's over a month old. 3 of my fishes died on me & 1 is on the way. The 2 damsels seem unaffected & same with the cleaner shrimp. Have tried water change, FW dip (few seconds only), garlic juice-dipped-shrimps, meds (copper safe). NO2 & NO3 low & dun have any corals, just live rocks. The white spots R pretty bad but it seems that they mite also have fin rot (?) & some slime too (?). R they suffering frm something worst??

On the verge of giving up. Dun know how else 2 help them. Just watch them die helplessly. Arrgh!!! :pinch:

Anyone got any ideas how I can improve their chances of survial. I'm at my ends wits.

    Thanx a bunch.

  17. Hey bwilly

Hehe ... thanx 4 the book titles. Sure hope they will come in handy. Been feelin down lately, most of my fishes R dying. Left with only 3. Hope they dun die on me so soon. MayB reading up on the various diseases mite help me save them. The internet is gd & everything but it beats having an "encyclopedia" around at home for reference I guess.

    Thanx again!

    P.S : Me sooo sad now :cry2:

  18. Hi bwilly

Thanx 4 reply. Hehe .. never thought of doin a reservation. Good idea! Is it still 50cents/book, I looked up NLB website, said $1.55/book??. Cost is 1 thing but I guess it would B nice 2 know if the book is worth it, B4 I go & reserve. I kinda feel reservation of library books is like a guessing game coz U never know if its a good book. Thats why it would B great if I can find out some book titles 2 look out 4 (not blindly borrow).

Anyway, hope 2 have better luck next time at the library. Cheers!
