  1. oops forgot to add in that my 4 footer has a Taihitian Butterfly and a Purple Firefish. :P so that's 2 more. :P

yes gouldian.. it's been a while....life changing events coming up so sadly tank maintenance has to take a back seat... but still do la. Luckily I bought tons of stuff in advance so that lasted me like 6-7 months.. gonna have to do bulk buys of things again very soon before I don't have time again.

  2. wait until the newbie 99.99% survival rate then I post la... otherwise sad if anything should happen. :P Ironically because I haven't been maintaining the tank is vigilantly as I did before ( weekly WC has turned to 3 weekly WC!) some nice zoos has uplorried but strangely my SPS is still alive.

Lost all my 6 Bartlet Anthias over the course of the past 7-8 months. Flame wrasse ( suddenly went down dunno why), Blue Mandarin ( with me for a year plus) disappeared last week or so, golden rhomboid ( jumped out).

So now my livestock in my 4 footer is as follows :-

    1. Blue Tang

    2. Yellow Tang

    3. 2 Black Clown fish

    4. 1 moster of a Green WRasse

    5. 1 Lineteus wrasse turning alpha

    6. 1 Flame Hawk

    7. 1 Midas Blenny

    8. 1 Powder Brown Tang ( in beta right now to let the newbie get established)

    9. 1 Algae blenny

    10. THe newbie tang .. :P

    11. 2 Cleaner shrimp

    12. 1 six line wrasse

    13. 1 sallylight foot crab

    14. A few surviving NArsarious snails and 2-3 starfish

In the 3 footer ( dwarf angel tank) :-

    1. 1 lemonpeel angel

    2. 1 fisherie angel

    3. 2 Flame Angels

    4. 1 Brazillian Flame Back

    5. 1 Neon goby

    6. 1 Algae blenny

    7. 1 true perc

    8. 2 Picasso clowns ( 1 suddenly disappeared yesterday so I'm hoping it's hiding as I can't find any dead body ANYWHERE!)

    9. 1 Coral beauty Angel

    10. 1 cleaner wrasse

    11. 1 yellow wrasse

    12. 1 sallylight foot crab

    13. 2 Starfish

    14. 1 leopard wrasse

My 3 footer seems to have more in it but the fish in there are pretty small, fish in my 4 footer is allot bigger than the fishys in the 3 footer. :) Both tanks are sharing the same sump. :)

  3. Actually to wall/cabinet mount your sockets, just ask AA to do it for you since he is setting up your tank. He should be able to advise you and help you do it when the tank and cabinet comes in. Buy the multi socket extension and pass it to him to either drill it in OR use the 3M double sided tape to put it wherever is best for your situation. I am assuming that what you are paying for installation and setup of your system as well and not just the tank and cabinet without piping or setup work.

AS for sand, it's really up to you. THe color is for a purely asthetic reasons. of course if different colors then the contrast will be there. So you have to make the decision on what you want after looking at other people's setups. Your tank is small so you probably only need 1 bag... or less depending on how deep you want your sand bed to be.

  4. it's been 7 months or so since I posted anything so here's a quick picture update of the 4 footer tank.

The 3 footer with dwarf angels is doing ok.

We Have suffered some losses as due to some major commitment the tank system has been sadly neglected but all the old Lao jiow fish which have been with us since 1 jan 2010 are still around!

The clams are in the sump powered by my Par38 Led. I love clams. :)

  5. Hi Bell,

I strongly encourage you to change your chiller. It is undersized for your tank size. THe total volume is 101 Litres for your system thereabouts max. The Resun chiller is only for volume up to 60Litre. Your chiller is gonna be on all the time and the hot air will come out and warm up the entire environment. TRust me, in Singapore hot environment and if you put the tank and chiller in any room, the occupants are gonna swear! Not only that, you will be using up lots of electricity. For chiller, it is always better to get an oversized one so that it will chill down the water faster and have less heat emitted.

Where will you be facing the cabinet/tank? The wall? Hope that the back of your fish tank is to an open space otherwise the back of the wall will be hot which will in turn heat up your tank.

good luck and keep us posted on your setup.

  6. very very cool setup... the only issue I personally see is the fact that your compressor is in your cabinet! I don't see any holes in your cabinet to allow for air flow or proper circulation ... it's gonna be mighty hot in there! :P

on the plus side, i like your in built beta box idea.. cool!

  7. btw prox I am not sure but I kinda doubt Dr Evil has a distributorship in Malaysia ... unless he does and we're unaware of it.. you should go back to the original LFS you got it from and get it exchanged which is what we all normally do for any goods that we buy right?

  8. Wonder how we can net these pests... just like our tank maintenance. If theres a product tat can without harming fish n coral would sure sell like hotcakes

The last time I encountered a bobbit worm in my tank, it was lodged in my base rock..... I had no choice but to remove the whole base rock , kill the rock and the worm crawled out... I was so pissed of with it, Ketchup and I dumped boiling water onto the worm to kill the bugger for good.. it ended up being about 3 feet long.. and I suspect it had eaten my golden rhomboid. You're lucky you caught it out whilst cycling... mine was in my matured tank.

And yes.. 1 radion is really not enough for your tank.... my personal opinion that 1 radion is barely enough for a 2x2x2 cube but yours is 3x3x2! You definitely need 2.

Merry Xmas and have fun stocking up.

  9. NICe little burger!!!! good planning... you know what you want ... the design is honestly not to my personal preference but to each his own... as long as you're happy.

Btw, could you explain why your returns are so low? Is there a reason for that? do you have a catch valve (besides the points raised by Eniram)to prevent backflow of water should there be a trip or a pump fails? Otherwise the water level in your tank will fall until there!!!

Although I admire your planning for a QT.. you would need to set up a small light as well as some flow/ filtration for the tank if it's really going to be for QT. You can't really use it to put your NSW and then put that in your main tank if you're QT-ing a fish at the same time right? Perhaps you could share with us how / methods you intend to use that for. :)

    like black cabinets. :)

  10. lol Comy, gold tap is Tt Durai la.... LOL gimme titanium tap. :)

but otherwise, very good of you, Ben to take the time and effort to read up and ask for feedback here. Of course end of the day it's your own decision what you want but at least you're AWARE. :P

Personally I prefer external overflow as it frees up space in the tank unless there are some location issues or asthetic issues which you feel strongly for which prevents you having an external overflow. I realise your external overflow plan is at the side.. why not at the back instead?

I wouldn't use a canister either. With a 2 feet cube, get a sump.... your life will be easier and you can do far more things in your sump vs a canister. A Canister becomes a nitrate factory after a while.

  11. honestly I think now with your rocks in, just go for a Bare bottom look because I think it's gonna be absolutely difficult for you to put in that sand carefully with such a tall tank/cabinet, lights etc all there. your work space allowance is really very very tight.... good luck to that man when the time comes!
