  2. Thanks Ray for the comments.. I will post up some pics tonight but right now i'm trying to embed the vid I uploaded to FB here.. Hhmm doesn't seem to work.

anyway despite all the planning, our chiller is not able to chill down our water whenever the MH is on. 1/4 Artica chiller is unable to do so because of the full floor to cabinet work and the 500 watts of MH burning down on my water in an enclosed environment. :( now we are trying to work it out with the LFS to find ways and means to HELP our chiller out. Even the agent came down this morning to our place and said that in the same circumstance only a 1/2 HP chiller can maintain the temp. :( sigh.... let's see how we shall overcome this challenge.

    DARN.. I can't embed the vid! :(

  3. Yeah I don't know whether it's because I touched it too often (3 attempts) or what factors... but after putting it down so nicely the first time, the whole thing moved and in 24 hours when I came back from work, I found it flipped over with it's base upwards and mouth downwards in the sand.. so I touched it the 2nd time with my bare hands and moved it to a corner of the tank with low flow.... then AGAIN after 24 hours it slowly flipped over after I target feed it a couple of squirts of mysis.....

I decided to give it one more attempt to move it as it was facing the little cave where our bartlet anthias always goes to for fear it would eat our fish ( which i THINK it ate one..) however this last attempt could have been my and its undoing as it was sticking to my fingers ( i tried to use my corallife glove but it made my fingers devoid of feeling so I just used my bare hands) and I could NOT get it off without jerking my hands violently away. and within 24 hours, we could tell it was a goner. :(:cry2:

I kinda regret attempting to move it the 3rd time.. maybe if I did not touch it and heck care that it was facing the anthias cave... it would have survived... but then.. MAYBE the rest of the anthias would have been it's dinner.. so.. who knows.. HAIZ....

  5. I love the CARPET!! It's a beautiful piece but SO BIG!!!!

Haiz.. mine fell off the rock.. moved around and now in one back corner of my tank on the SAND... :P so much for giganteas liking rocks.. mine seem to detach itself from the rocks and land on the sand more. ARUGH.. :P<_<

    Cheers

  6. its generally not wise to mix too many anemone species in the same tank. they are quite intolerant of each other. and does not matter how far away from each other, as long as in the same water bodies, they can interact with each other with chemicals. but this is just a textbook literature example and should be followed with a pinch of salt and used as a guideline, for i have seen numerous occasions where reefers have proved against this.

technically, its true. so just run carbon and regular water changes should work.

yup lemon, I read about that as well in all the literature about anemone that one should not mix.. and yet .. here we see many tanks with more than 1 anemone in there and everything seems fine. So I suppose it does all boil down to regular maintenence and husbandry of our little piece of ocean. :) Running carbon, rowaphos and purigen to clear our water. :) Currently, haven't figured out a time to do regular water change but we'd start off with once a month :). And since the tank is relatively new, we have been doing water parameter tests every alternate day so if there's any spike, we'd know within a relatively short time. :)

alright.. i"d call it a night.. I will NOT go out and look at the carpet.. I WILL NOT go out and look at the carpet.. I WILL GO and join ketchup in BED....

  7. hee hee.. let me make a clarifaction.. it's a gigantea not a hadonni. :) and as you rightly said in PM VT__snow, it SHOULD prefer the rockwork but now it's moving around the clove.. on the sand.. maybe it thinks the outcrop of clove is a ROCK! :P ARUGH! :eyeblur: .. .... I guess I have to give it about a week or so before I put in my tomato and RBTA. lol I sure as hell hope my RBTA would settle at the spot that I put it in since it's now already settled on a rock in my refugum. LOL I'm gonna have both anamoneas in seperate corners of the tank.. as FAR away as possible! :P

  8. thats an interesting looking carpet.. weirdly, it should prefer sandbed, like all haddonis.. did you place it on the sand initially?

you know, that's what I asked Henry when I bought it from him, but he told me to put it on a rock.. so I did.. then it MOVED.. and now.. it's lodged itself at the corner of my BIG clove.. LOL on the SAND.. HAHAHAHA oh well... I'd let it roam around until it finds a spot.. right now I'm just so happy that the 2 black clowns have SOMEWHERE to sleep to rest their tired fins. LOL

  9. OH yeah, we are also turning on the UV 24/7 right now since we added in the anthias... I know that it kills both the good and bad bacteria so I guess I'd be doing more dosing of my phyto and zooplankton as well as my rowa bac during the weekly dosing...

Does anyone else out there have any opinion about UV? AS I intend to leave it on for the first couple of days then maybe cut it down to 8 hours a day.... any comments on UV usage?

    :thanks:

  10. I am using a mixture of Carib Sea and Nature's Ocean Black sand and I am also experiencing the same thing.. all the brown algae on the sand.

Currently I have 4 Narsi snails and 2 sand shifting star fishes in my tank.. and so far, I think they are doing a pretty good job preventing the brown algae thingy.. or whatever it is ... from becoming too "overflowing"... It's not completely eradicated but in my opinion it doesn't seem to be getting more.... in some areas it seems to be getting less, and in other areas, there is no change.

Then again cause my sand is black, maybe it doesn't stand out so much for me! HAH

    Try Narsi snails?

    Cheers,

    Desi

  11. Yup we have released the 2 blackies into the tank first since sunday.. they have been swimming around and made friends with the other fish.. it's damn cute when 2 teeny tiny black osci school with the 2 tangs.. LOL Obviously they get left behind! HAHAHAHAH but Ketchup and I feel very heart pain waking up every morning to find them swimming at the fish gathering corner of the tank.. with no host... :P I know it's ALL IN THE MIND cause they can survive but... heh...we will wait patiently for a suitable sized hadonni ... <_<

now we just have to wait a week plus before putting the RBTA and our tomato into the tank and then PRAY the tomato don't whack the 2 black osci since they do not have the protection of an anemonea.

BTw, just a question do you guys QT Bartlett Anthias or you just THROW THEM in?

    Cheers,

    Desi

  12. Thanks Joe.. :P We are still slowly stocking and refraining from binge buying! Besides, 3 pieces of equipment are still pending delivery. can't wait for the whole thing to be.. "whole"... if you know what I mean. Ketchup and I switch from playing world of warcraft together to marine tank hobby together lor. LOL

Good luck to your set up too! :) May the gods of reefing look down upon our endeavors with showers of blessings!

    Cheers
