So much trouble... I simply used an acrylic sheet that has a horizontal slit to allow water to pass between the acrylic and the top of the overflow box. works great and is easy to do. Send a picture later once I'm home.

No info on the material used. They just mention a material called Reef Ceramics from a company called Coral World. You can check their website at Coral World (only in german - english part does not work).

I use a big water canister with cover and one airhose for water out plus one for air in (with valve). Nothing gets in here !
