  4. Hi, This may be too late... but good for information. I remember visiting one Marine aquarium in Alexandra Village a few months back - the owner is the brother of the owner of Wong Loy Kee. The shop is in between the food centre and the Queenstown Shopping Centre... if I remember correctly, it is somewhere near the bank/overhead bridge (but not facing the road). Not sure what is the current status of the shop though... Regards... Dotty
  5. Hi, For some florescent tube, you may be able to find the color temperature and lumin per watt on the paper sleeve ... I think the warm white color temp for normal florescent tube is around 4500K and the cool white is about 6200K-6500K. There is one florescent tube with color temperature of 6700K. There are also normal color florescent tube with color temperature of greater than 10000K (blue color light) but you will need to verify the value at its manufacturer website if any. I think besides looking at the color temperature, you will need to consider the lumin per watt. If I'm not wrong, most normal florescent tube has rather low lumin per watt compared to those florescent tube meant for aquarium. Regards... Dotty
  6. Hi DIYers, Wonder if anyone here know where to get Beckett Injector? How much is one unit? Am thinking of DIYing a Beckett skimmer. Thanx. Regards... Dotty

  9. HI, Wonder if anyone here know if there are any marine fish or equipment shop in Sydney or Canberra, Australia? Am planning a business trip there, thought of dropping by any of such shops in the area if convenient. Address will be greatly appreciated, thanx. Regards... Dotty
  10. Hi, Does anyone know how much lumin does a 4' T5 out put? Both normal and HO... info appreciated... thanx. Regards... Dotty
  11. Hi, Did you check (or smell) for dead sponges or organism that comes with the corals? Especially the zoos and mushroom which tend to have sponges and other organism on them. May be due to dead sponges which spoil the water... leather and mushroom don't die out so suddenly unless the water parameter is really out. For me, I would normally smell the coral before buying them... you'll not missed the smell - I would not buy any coral if it smell bad... even though it may looks good from the outside... much like buying durian one way to do now is to check each piece of your corals for bad smell and throw out the bad ones... my 1 cent advice... in my experience, putting in a large number of corals at one shot should not cause too much problem (provided they are in good condition)... I'm only worry about the water level increase when doing so... Regards.... Dotty
  12. Hi Reeffer, The T-connector will rotate due to the torque generated when the water exit the L-joint ( the L-joint must be in opposite direction). Regards... Dotty
  13. HI, Hard to explain.... I have drawn a cross section view instead. Hoped it helps in the understanding. FYI. It took me a few days thinking how to make the rotation portion using the 13mm PVC pipe... Regards... Dotty
  14. Hi, Has anyone used this before? Any comments? Looks good from the description but would appreciates comments from those who have used it. Thanx. Regards... Dotty
  15. Hi Reeffer, Here's a photo of a DIY rotating thingy that you are looking for... I DIYed it a few months back... cost me less than $3. The key to this DIY is to find the right piping to fit together... the trick to the rotation is the sanded down portion of a pipe to fit a ring (13mm pvc pipe) and this ring is free to rotate. The sanding down is the tedious part. You will need to have the rotating pipe to nicely fit the pipe (to be connected to the powerhead). I'm using one of those pipes that come with the old powerhead which fortunately fit the nicely with the 13mm pvc pipe. I need to use a bit of force to move the rotating ring into the powerhead pipe. The T and elbow are connected to the PVC ring with the powerhead pipe outlet inside the T (but not obstructing the waterflow from the powerhead). I have tested it running a few weeks and it works very well. A possible modification is to have the elbow outlet constricted ( i.e. pressed to a I-shape instead of O-shape). I didn't do the modification because I don't want the flow to be too powerful - without the I-shape outlet, the rotation is pretty slow. Hoped this gives you some idea how this can be done. Regards.... Happy DIYing... Dotty
