Hi,
I have lots of green & brown algae & red & black spots on the glass and fibreglass wall. In addition, the rocks in the tank started off as light red-purple but has turned deep red/purple with spots of almost black. There are also specks of black on the sand bed.
Tank details:
1. 4ft (L) x 1ft (W) x 2.5ft (H)
2. 4 inches of no 1 sand
3. 210 litres of water
4. 2x4ftx50W (1 white 1 actinic)
5. livestock -- 1 yellow tang, 1 purple tang, 2 true percula clown, 1 coris wrasse, 1 flame angel and 1 yellow anemone.
6. weipro 2010 skimmer with sicca pump 2500
7. main pump -- sicca pump 2500
8. phosphateguard
9. quality of water -- phos, ammo, no2 are 0. no3 about 10
10. the lights are switched on from 12noon to 10pm eveynight.
11. fishes are fed once a day at about 7.30pm
12. have been doing water change of 15% every 2 weeks since the fishes were introduced 2 months ago and the glass has to be cleaned every other day. the tank has been cycled for more than 6 months without fishes.
13. no sump. the water overflows and passes thro a column of coral chips and water are then pump back into the main tank.
Plse advise on the following :
1. How to control/stop the growth of green and brown algae? Phosphate is 0 and no3 is low, why the growth of green and brown algae?
2. Are the red spots coralline algae?
3. What are the black spots on the finreglass wall and the specks of black on the sandbed?
Appreciate your advise. Thanks.
