  1. Guys, Anybody know where i can get this protein skimmer Its called Reef Octopus Protein Skimmer Do u know any LFS in Singapore who carries this brand. Asked Aquamarine but they don't have it in stock. Thanks in advance guys. Sanjay
  2. Reef Octopus looks good & not too expensive..there is even an External Type (DNW series) but requires extra feed pump. But i didn't find many reviews of ppl who have used it! Has any of you brothers used this skimmer?
  3. SKIMZ SM150 selling for $588 at aquamarine. & BM (insump model) cheapest selling for $ 269 at j ireh. Wow so expensive cant afford to pay so much money.
  4. So what skimmer do u suggest cus Macro selling for $100+ ... Other branded kind sell for $400+ even old one...
  5. Hi Fellow Reefers, I have a 50 gallon tank moderately stocked running on Wiepro 2011. The problem with this skimmer is it produces half a cup skim mates in 2 weeks. The nitrates are 40-60 ppm, so i cant keep any corals except maybe few mushrooms. Currently thinking about upgrading the skimmer. Since i don't have a budget for a high end skimmer like deltec, i am considering a Dymax or Macro Aqua, Needle Wheel kind outsump or hangon kind Has anybody used these skimmers or would know which one is better? or know of any good skimmer in similar price range. Thanks in advance for ur answers. & happy reefing!!
  6. yeah i does get current... but since the holes on the betta box is small...the current is limited... maybe i should make it bigger...
  7. I had bought a handful of cheatoes few months back. Since i knew the required sufficient light i hanged them in a betta box close to my PL tank lights. They look the same from day one until now..no growth at all.. They appear & feel so dry & plastic-ish from the time i bought... I even had to convince myself its real but feeding a small piece to my yellow tang.. which it ate. Any advice?
  8. Yes. Turbo snails eat all sorts of algae... But they are rather slow, so get a few to get the job done... I have 4 in my 50 Gallon tank...& in a couple of days i get one live rock algae free at a time.. So u need to have some patience with them
  9. My copper band finished off 3 feather duster in few weeks... It will only feed on frozen food.. brine shrimp & mysis shrimp... wont eat pellets...
  10. This chiller consumes about 80 Watts, i was using with PL lights in my 1.5 Ft Shrimp tank. It lowered 1-2 Deg lower than my normal tank temp. Wouldn't consider that a satisfactory result!
  11. Hi petecyl, I have this 788 lying in storage, can sell it to you, if u want But this chiller isn't powerful at all & i don't think can achieve temperatures lower than 1-2 deg below the actual water temp.
  12. Yeah its still lying with me.. I had used it for my 1 1/2 ft Shrimp tank, but i should warn you that its not a powerful chiller & the performance isn't good.
  13. Gates vs. GM For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on. At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, 'If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.' In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part): 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........ Twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. 4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads. 6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single 'This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation' warning light. I love the next one!!! 7. The airbag system would ask 'Are you sure?' before deploying. 8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 10. You'd have to press the 'Start' button to turn the engine off. Please share this with your friends who love - but sometimes hate - their computer!
  14. Just a suggestion! Even fresh water LFS sometimes sell the more common Salt mixes... I stay at Yishun & the LFS close to me sells.. Red Sea Salt Mix... No need to carry few Kgs all the way from Fish Farm or Coral farm...
  15. Hi Thexder, Thanks for the reply... Does it mean PL lights would be good enough for my cheatos? Since my PL lights are old... i have to decide if i should buy PL lights or should upgrade to T5...
  16. I currently have a 3ft (50G) FOWLR. i am using 36W X 2 PL Lights Since i cannot afford a chiller, using a fan.. but still can maintain 27-28 deg temprature I wanted to ask would it be better if i switch to T5 lights... I have heard they are more energy efficient & brighter... I have some cheatoes in a betta box.. but seems to be not growing.. maybe cause the light isnt that bright... Will it increase the temperature? Has anybody done any research on T5 lights as compared to PL lights.
  17. They look perfectly normal to me....
  18. U can check the NEA website for tides... http://app.nea.gov.sg/cms/htdocs/article.asp?pid=2293
  19. I am a newbie.... I have only kept Sun coral... Found it pretty challenging at 1st..cause of it requires target feeding.... But now i have invented way to make it easier... I would consider it pretty hardy, cause being a newbie, my tank water isn't the perfect but yet its alive & looking happy...
  20. Not sure if it will be bright enough to grown cheatos... .. Like others said...I would suggest using an energy saving bulbs... If u have space constrains.. use the smallest available ones.
  21. Randy You can find the frozen brine shrimp in most LFS. Regarding where you should keep the sun coral... Sun coral doesn't require light as it doesn't rely on light for photosynthesis. But there is no harm in keeping a lighted place... Most importantly choose a place where its easy to target feed... I have put mine on a small flat rock on the sand bed...so that it polyps close to the bottom doesn't sink into the sand I use a coke bottle to target feed so sand bed is the best position for me... Cheers!
  22. Ahh! Thats bad.. i thought you could find a lot of marine life there... Maybe other islands close to Singapore have more to see
  23. Was just curious to know more about fellow reefers... Thanks in Advance!
