  1. yes, they dont take from pasir ris.....some where west side....lol...not sure how true....

Labrador Park is a good place. All you need is a rope a pail and the containers, during high tide. There is a platform near the carpark for you to scoop. Dun try to walk down the slope, full of dangerous surprises. Or on the left side is a ram previously used by the Navy RPL.

Me going night fishing around Southern Islands on next Friday night, if not too much and can provide me with the container, I think I might be able to help. :whistle

  2. But you will not know where the source of the NSW if you get from one of the farms rite? Unless we assume that pasir farms will use pasir ris water and LCK farms will use LCK waters. But it seems like both the farm areas........NSW are high in bacteria count......jus wondering whether their live stock ok boh. :whistle

It is unlikely that they will take from Pasir Ris, doubt they are so cheapskate. If they really do, they are digging their own grave too! :eyebrow:

  3. Guess, it does not matter, or does it? IMO it depends on where the NSW is from. Punggol/Pasir Ris, Tuas/ Jurong, Changi/ East Coast, Marina/ Pasir Panjang, or Southern Islands.

It was also in the news that Punggol water have got high undesirable bacteria count. LimChu Kang do have high bacteria count due to the farms along the SoJ. Tuas are shipyards, checmial traces are high. The cleaner water is probably Changi/ East Coast, and Southern Islands.

  4. Check the gasket, possible that your gasket is loose or torn. Try to tighten the nuts first, if it don't work, likely the gasket is gone. If you don't dismantle the flanges, then unlikely it will be torn. Just get a replacement or cut from Viton sheets, if you can get hold of one.

Just some of my past experiences. Cheers!

  5. btw, a conservative calculation based on minimal modest live rocks & sand.

    3' x 3' x 2.5' = approx. tank weight of 649kg or floor loading of 7.86 KN/m² (9mm-10mm glass)

    3' x 3' x 2' = approx. tank weight of 516kg or floor loading of 6.25 KN/m² (12mm glass)

This does not include, wt. of cabinets, sump tank, equipments. Just only tank + water + 20kg rocks + 10kg sand.

  6. Hi fellow reefers,

I have just got my new house and new tank but am now a bit worried about the weight of the tank when filled with water etc. Do you guys have any ideas on whether the weight of the filled tank will cause issues on the building? I am not going to ask the developer at this point of time becasue he will say no to everything.

Any of you have some suggestions or some assurances to provide?

    Thanks

Usually residential properties, above ground floor, will have a minimum rated floor loading of 5KN/sq.m. Such info, private or HDB properties, is an open data for anyone. Naturally, the design will have the side, nearer to the columns, to have a higher loading strength.

Don't ask the developer, as most likely they will know nuts about the weight of the tanks and would rather yield on the safe side...'NO!'. Marine tanks is surprising much heavier than guessing. If you can, try to calculate based on the SG of the water, glass, rocks and sand estimate, you will be surprised, too! :ooh::D

  7. Introducing Wrasse will not jeopardise our reefs. Our water do already have many species of Wrasse, with some agressive ones, also being depleted by reclaimations and chemical pollutions in some areas.

I would definitely prefer to release it to sea, than to pass on to inexperiences reefers.

  8. Many Thanks.

So are you suggesting that I but a skimmer (air-driven) and the airstone used in the skimmer will be fine to oxygenate the water. In this case and I place the powerhead horizontally near the water surface (instead of pointing to top and causing exploding bubbles on the surface?)

Yours is a mid size tank (3ft?), and the in sump/ external skimmer got to have a relatively good flow of at least 400litres to be effective, either air-driven with pump, venturi pump, etc...I am not referring to those hang-ons within the tank that blows the bubbles through.

At the effluent, place the powerhead beneath the skimmer effluent, or place the effluent tube at the intake of the powerhead and let it carry the oxygenated water throughout the tank. Alternatively, what I did is to use the 2213 effluent to mix and carry the oxygenated water (I don't use a powerhead to save cost. :paiseh: ). My personal preference is to point/ direct it down at a slight angle, to ensure that there is a good top to bottom mix.

So far it works fine for me with LS of 1 angel, 2 tanks, 2 clowns, 1 gamma, 1 banded shark, 9 shrimps, 4 starfish, 2 sand dollars, 1 sea cucumber, 1 abalone, and a lot of crabs and bristle worms in the LR. :D

  9. Hi Friends,

I have a 50 gallon saltwater tank with only few Fishes, 1 Carpet Anemone and Live Rock.

The tank is powered by a EHEIM 2213 filter and a submersible AZOO 1200 litre/hr dual submersible filter pointed to the top of the tank just below the water surface.(http://www.azoo.com.tw/azoo_en/modules.php?name=Product_Review&bkid=208)

    Advice Required:

    1. Is an airstone really required in the saltwater aquarium? or will the above arrangement with the AZOO powerhead be sufficient to provide adequate dissolved oxygen through surface agitation?

    2. What is the best height to place the powerhead at the surface of the tank for good oxygen supply? Should it splash the water like a fountain or just create ripples?

    3. Any other recommendation to provide good oxygen level and avoid having microbubbles throughout the tank

    Please advice.

    Thanks,

    Sanju

I don't use a sump, but got a slightly oversized protein skimmer instead, the effluent carried away by a powerhead should cover the aerated water in the tank evenly and sufficiently. This will eliminate the fine bubbles in the tank and splashes caused by the 'exploding' bubbles on the surface, causing wet floors, lights and cabinets.

  10. Inside farmart closed already.Left the below one only.

Yep, the big one was the first to do, got a very stuck up guy! I think the 2 small shop ones are going one after another, only got display tanks only. Not sure on any new ones, but the one selling live seafood at times have got very interesting stuff! :eyebrow:

  11. At times it is perfectly normal for fish to go on 'hunger strike' for afew days. Probably one of several common reasons:

    1) Never environment, felt threatened and stressed.

    2) Not used to the water condition.

    3) these had been freshly caught, not used to pellets yet.

    4) They want abalone or lobster sashimi. :pirate::D

Even from sea caught, it is quite common to starve for almost a week, all it takes is one to start, then the others will follow. Other feeding fish will help shortening this 'cycle' time too.

  12. Bangkit oniy sell salt, food and euipment.I did not know tat fajar fish shop can request. But how long it take once we order?

BTW Qian Hu got sell marine fish?Go there before but only got tank n freshwater fish only.

Thanks bro, at least dnsfpl knows where to look for salt now in the area.

Fajar the man ever told me that he can get if I want, but will take time, and not sure what salt he is bringing from the supplier, as I never ask.

Qian Hu don't sell marine fish, They have a couple of marine tanks in the store for display, but they breed sell and and export fresh water ones only. But in terms of stocking, if I am not mistaken, the are the importer for Red Sea and Eheim. Salt, calcium, test kits, skimmers, and much marine stuff. Coral feed, and almost everything, except fish and corals. :D

  13. wow a bpians

which lfs do you normally go?

i need to buy marine salt or sea water

    thanks

I work in Pandan, therefore J. , the market one or ML is my lunch time hang out place. The other place that I visit once in awhile is CF, Qian Hu or Farmart. Price not that cheap there, but, may probably be the nearest, especially if you don't drive, there are still shuttle bus to bring you in to Qian Hu and Farmart from CCK. :eyebrow:

Greenrich SC have got a freshwater lfs, dunno sell salt or not. The market one at Fajar market only upon request. Also the one at Bangkit, not too sure about them.

  14. Hi MachoMarlin, looks like I'll avoid a horned starfish in the future then...

But for my case, dun have 1 living inside, so really makes me wonder who could have inflicted the wound on my starfish... Could it be Skunk Cleaner Shrimp? Common Clownfish? Scarlet Hermit? [Like playing Cluedo like dat...] Sigh! Before I can have a confirmed 'murderer', if not, apprenhensive in buying a new starfish for my girl...

I personally, though not the prettiest, finds that the horned star is probably the toughest and a better sand sifter compared to the blues, the reds, etc. that prefers to cling to the rocks and kinda slow, which makes me so concerned with their meal that I have to feed them half a clam every alternate days.

From your LS looks like the Hermit is the only possible culprit, though not necessary BE the one. I had previously been warned by LFS owners about lifting certain sensitive stars out of water for fear of serious fatal infection once it is exposed to air. Maybe you can try thinking about this lead as well?

btw, my 2 yr old kid loved only the red star as well, inspite of the 5 different species! :erm:
