Very difficult: work near 2 lfs and old house near pasir ris. Maybe should stop logging into sgreef to look at lfs updates. Really, should I remove the green macroalgae? Does it look odd in a reef tank? I put it there just to remove phosphates.

I think I saw Garden Eels in AM...but 1st time seeing them, so cannot really be sure. Long bodies with heads and tails sticking out of sand.

A few white spots just apeared on my small newly purchased blue tang yesterday. I immediately fed all the fishes with garlic soaked Dr Bassler ###### and this morning moved the tang into a newly set up quarantine with copper treatment (Cuprazine, I think). The Salifert test for copper not very good, somehow. My question is: how long do I keep my tang in the copper treated QT? Also, how frequent are the dosing...as instructions are to treat for a certain number of days, but does this mean the copper meds must be added daily? Won't the copper levels in the tank rise to dangerous levels? I will be monitoring the levels daily to minimise overdose. Thanks for any advice.

OK, will try placing it properly again...it moves about quite a bit, and sometimes can see it ?blowing sand off.

Just got this small clam, prob crocea. Tried to put it high up on the live rocks near the compact fluorescent lights, but it keeps falling. Placing in sand will be too dim, I think. Decided to place it in a scallop shell, with some sand inside, and balanced it between 2 rocks near the lights. However, it flipped to the side instead...should I keep easing it back to the proper position facing the lights? The mantle is rather thin...not sure whether it is healthy or not. Anyone can advise? Thanks.

You mean adjusting the height of the entire skimmer? I am thinking if adding carbon to the last chamber may help?

Thanks for your advice. So does the opening effect continue after feeding is finished? I thought it should remain more firm and open like when I saw it in lfs. Got it from AM, got a few more specimens there.

Here is a pic of the Boyu skimmer that I am now using, it fits very well. Please let me know if the skimming level is correct. Since it is a new aquarium, not much skimmate yet. However, I find it produces many small bubbles into the tank, not sure how to remove it.

Hi, just got this green striped mushroom yesterday, but it appears to be limp now and not really opening. Is that a normal response? Also, are striped green or blue mushrooms more expensive than normal more dull-coloured ones? Paid $18 for this- that the normal price?

Is this a cauliflower coral? I think not fully open yet.

Sure, will take a photo soon. I found it very difficult to adjust the Resun skimmer- the pieces keep falling apart despite the (weak) tape and no bubbles come out, or the water soon overflows the collection cup. Quite frustrating. The corals are Ok so far. But only got them for 2 days, but opening up quite well. I thought I saw a nudibrach on the zoa when I placed it in tank. Should have done freshwater dipping.

Peacemaker, thanks for the advice. Trying hard to resist further buying now. Raydiative, frankly I can't really think of a better way to scape it. I thought the rocks are a little too low though, so thinking of getting more, so that I can lodge some light-demanding corals up there...when I am more ready for more challenges. I found that my pH rather lowish, about 7.8, and have tried adding one capful each of Aquapharm Seabalance Part A & B, hope that will improve the pH over the next few days. I found that ammonia appeared today: somewhat difficult to distinguish the colours on the strip, but it is either 0 or 0.25ppm. Nitrite and nitrate all 0 now. Will continue to monitor. Cardinalfish still hiding behind and not eating, whereas firefish hides all the time except for the morning feeding, when it comes out and takes a few bites. Just changed the protein skimmer today, from the resun (which is almost impossible to adjust) to a Boyu, which is fixed quickly and easily and I think more powerful.

Day 5 now, tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are 0. Perhaps the live sand really acelerated the cycling process. A cleaner shrimp, some snails and hermit crabs were added. Also added a Bangai Cardinalfish and a Purple Firefish. Added the following corals: Hammer coral Zoanthids Need to slow down now.

I was told can add LS after 5 days of setting up my tank with aragonite live sand and rocks. The packaging for the live sand even say can add fish immediately. For my tank, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate remained 0 for the first 5 days...maybe live sand really accelerates the process significantly. I will continue to monitor the parameters.

Just set this up 4 days ago, got this as a package from a LFS. This photo shows a slightly cloudy tank because just set up, but now very clear. I think I need some more live rocks, what do you think? Now cycling using live sand and rocks, was told that can add fish soon, about 5 days after setup, but also received conflicting advice. Anyway today added some cleanup crew like snails and shrimps and hermit crabs, and hopefully can add a gramma and LPS... Ammonia, nitite and nitrate all 0.

Solo77, thanks for your advice. Indeed it is important to cycle the tank properly first. It is just that, having spent an extra $40 to get live sand instead of normal sand, I thought this might mean I can put in livestock earlier...and it is Sunday tomorrow, and I happen to be around LCK, where Coral farm is....

I have just set up a 24G cube tank yesterday, and have added live rocks and live sand. Was told that since live sand is used, can add fish in a few days time. When is the optimal time to start adding livestock, and in what sequence? Eg, corals first, then shrimps, then fish? Thanks for your advice.

I wonder if the 28 G Nano with MH lights may prove too hot, even in an aircon environment? I really would like to have a mixed tank, with everything inside- fish, inverts, corals...

Thanks. Actually I am deciding between the 24G JBJ and 28HQI, but am concerned about temp, as sometimes the office aircon get switched off.

Hi guys, I am considering getting a 24G JBJ Cube to be placed in the office. I was advised by a LFS that there is no need for a skimmer for such a small tank, just regular 2 weekly change of water is enough. What do you think? I don't mind spending more on a skimmer though..Planning on keeping some corals and maybe 6-7 fish...but I fear I may eventually overpopulate. My office temp ranges from 20-25C.Thanks for your advice!
