  1. Hi. Anyone upgrading to a new chiller or giving up hobby and would like to sell their old one? I am looking for a chiller to cool a 125lt tank. Power: 1/10, 1/5 or 1/4 HP. Anyone intending to sell can PM me? Thanks
  2. That's my point. That's why it is not very profittable. Thus you dont see them selling it at the LFS. So it is not that it dont work, jus most people dont know bout it, dont have the time and can't buy it. and businesses do not wanna spend the time, effort and space. If the LFS sell it, due to the lengthy process, probably wont be cheap. Prob cost more than live rock fron indonesia. But I like to DIY and if it works, very satisfying. If it doesnt, nevermind lor. So cheap to try anyway. So far material cost is like $10. Just take it like buying 1kg of live that went bad lor. But it a method that has been around for decades with some people that has setup that uses all man made rocks, it will work unless I screw it up lor. Just some patience and everyone can do it and less reef wil be distroyed.
  3. PS. It is not that it is not pursued, It is just not very comercially feasible. It is always easily to sell something collected then made. Takes much longer, higher production cost, long turn around time (Takes months). More effore means less profit. Have a look at this link. the sell these rock but cos they are a non profit org. www.garf.org under Aragocrete
  4. I know what you mean, my first one is heavy and not porous at all. But I beg to differ. The weight and porous of the rock depends on how it is made (Rock salt added to the sand creates holes as it dissolve to make it porous for bacteria, centre can be made hollow, plastic shaving can be added to reduce the weight. But true you can buy them (at the price of your pocket and the reef). But our reef is a limited resource. Wouldnt it be better if I can help by using less rock from nature and make some on my own plus have fun doing it, save some money and save some reef. Plus if this works, can spend the money somewhere else! he he... Provided it is successful. Anyway I like to diy, like a hobby to me. More satisfaction when it works. But like I say, just an experiment to see if its feasible. Cos intending on 6ft. Thought of hunting 200kg of rocks that I like sounds daunting. Most of the rocks in the LFS are not very porous and heavy anyway, you have to choose those lighter and porous ones and it takes time and effort visiting several LFS making severval trips. If I can make them, I can make them in the shape I want. They can also be made to interlock with one another for better integrity. But this is not for the impatient, as it would take months (to cure and for live to grow).
  5. I did tell you it was big right. 3+ 4inches.
  6. wah kee. Just bought so fast sell liao......
  7. I has seen Jewel posting one last couple of days, maybe you have a look. Have seen his Yellow, he selling for 25(same as LFS) but it big, bout 3 inches + and the good thing is free of disease. He has have it for a while. LFS have to take your chance as the fish is stress from transport from oversea, a new tank enviroment in the LFS, your trip home and the occupants in your tank. Whereas his has been in captivity for quite a while (less chances of ich and stress. That is if he can catch it la!!) Look Here
