  1. woah, can't believe i didn't chance on this thread before.

the corals and fishes there look so much at home there, kinda makes me feel bad for having them in tanks. its a quite sad to also think that some of these corals (not only in maldives) are harvested just for us and the 'ugly' ones that no one buys are just left there to most probably die when they should be where they were before, healthy and growing.

i must say, amazing photos! :yeah: thanks for sharing bro :D

  2. yeah.. I'm not sure what exactly to be worried about actually.

Good idea! How does it work? If they are glued together lengthwise the clip can't open..

you can always pluck out the metal extensions, or just blend them out when it hits the driver. not a longterm solution for everyday use, but good enough for one time clipping and forgetting about it :)

  3. hmm wouldn't optics act like some sort of splash guard already? since you'd only be concerned about the bulbs and not the remaining exposed heatsink etc.

i would glue a small binder clip onto the driver and just clip it on to the a fin on the heatsink

  4. Thanks man. Will any brand do, or do you have a preferred brand?

no preferred brand, when there're offers i'll just buy a few bottles. house brands are normally the cheapest.

an alternative to consider would be those larger cylinders used for offices and commerial places. not sure about the price but it surely would be more environmental friendly. i've yet to find a place that sells them individually though, mostly through suppy contracts etc

  5. Thanks Wilson! First question as a born again reefer: Is it safe to use bottled distilled drinking water (sold at Watsons and other outlets) as top-up water? Are these waters really "distilled"? If not, where can I buy distilled/RO water? Am trying to resist installing an RO unit.

i've been using bottle distilled water for quite a long while now for my tank, no complains from me :)

  6. Actually not... if u noticed the polyps extension is very bad... so I'm still wondering what's wrong...

i'm not sure what wavemakers you are using but not enough flow perhaps? i recently turned up my vortech and things started to get just a little more hairy in a week or two

  7. any rise in temperature in the tank would already lead to issues like

    - increased evaporation

    - heating up the water, thus the condenser may have to kick in slightly more then compared to if it was placed somewhere else

    - can't store certain items that requires the 'cool dry place' in the cabinet

i believe other bros have mentioned a few others. i personally wouldn't be happy if my cabinet was at 38 degrees, room temperature would be my ideal. but seeing your constrains it seems quite hard for you to work around this problem. active cooling within the cabinet perhaps?
