  1. hi all, appreciate ur help. The charcoal is surely helping to clear the water. Started this 4ft tank with 3ft sump in May2010 with sand n rocks from my old 3ft tank that was running for a year. Yes tks for the info on the light, i will get the blue light replaced n probably switch on for a few hours a day. Will check water parameters soon. but i think should be within range cus i add karlwatzer twice a week, dose trace elements n iodine once a week each, n recently changed water. Question: can frozen nanochloropsis used to feed corals cause the water to turn brown when no wc done? doesnt it get trap in the filter wool?
  2. Hi bro, could u explain more about the light spectrum. Tks.
  3. hi bro/sis, need your input. My tank water is brownish. my white anemone with purple tip has turned brown, mushrooms also turning brown, light green fluroscent zoa starting to turn brown, this is despite recent water change for the past few weeks after i notice my anemone died (i had 2 anemone in the tank, now 1 left). during my water change which is 1 pail each time, i would siphon the dirt off the sand with the bell attachment. now i have added activated carbon which has helped to clear the water abit, but the anemone, mushroom and zoa still brownish. most of the light is from the sun, not direct though. can the brownish polyps turn back to their original color? Appreciate ur advice.

  5. anyone got female harlequin shrimp for sale? kindly PM me
  6. Lemon, you are right, when those fishes grow big, i will exchange with my friend. My plan is to house this tank with more halerquin, around 50-100, and move all fishes to other tank. however, it takes time to do collection. I am not worry about aggressive behavious, from my own experience, when you house just some, it will be kind of territory; when you house more than 10.. it becomes a friendly group.

  14. (just something on the side of this topic)Do u put in the starfish whole or arm by arm? cus i experience when the arm is cut it will foul the water
  15. thanks everyone. the main linckia (ie the part with the 4 arms left) is moving around n quite healthy. its the arm that has been cut off is rotting n spilling out its white 'meat'. maybe i should just put the whole linckia for the harlequins to eat. what do u think guys/gals? another question is whether the blue linckia make the harlequin more blue? just curious yes, lcf, i used sifting star too n they eat them well. these harlequins r from u lol hehe
  16. Any idea how to cut the arm of linckia star to feed harlequin without fowling the whole tank. Now I had to evacuate all the fishes to another tank cus of the rotting linckia. Any experience to share?

  19. hi bro, do u have a pic of them? how big r they? tks
  20. hi bro, just to share with u my diy style - simple but effective, as i see the coraline algae growing quite well. i poke a pin hole at the bottom of a gallon plastic container; mix about 3mg of kalk with water , shake vigorously, then let let it drip (with a tooth pick sticking into the pin hole); i do it at night, 2 or 3 times a week. i guess it acts as a top up water as well as a ph buffer. after 1 or 2 months, i see coral algae growing in my new tank. all the best!!!
  21. yes bro tks for the chat n advice. see u on sunday
  22. hey, thanks to all , including jackywong, for ur expertise n advice. knowing that many of u have gone thru those trial n error bit. many thanks. 1 nagging question is how much would a chiller cost p/month....$30 to $50? for my 4ft tank
