  1. Thanks Sherman, where can I get a digital Eco pH Pen?
  2. Can anyone here recommend me a reliable and yet affordable digital pH & Temperature monitor. Thanks : )
  3. You may want to get yellow wrasses to control the nudis.
  4. Hihi Please can anyone tell me what are those cotton-like growth growing around the corals? Pics attached.
  5. Thanks...I wish mine was as colourful as yours haha : )
  6. Hello Reefers I have some Brownish Polyps (pics attached) that has been growing out of the life rocks? Whilst they are not very pretty, I do not know if they are good for the tank? Any advice. Many thanks Mark
  7. Thanks Lemon. Can I also seek your advice on preparing my own water change. I used to get treated sea water but I now intend to mix sea salt. I am using Tropic Marine Salt and I am adding a bit by a bit to attain close to 1.023 salinity...how abt the PH, it is now at 9.4? what can be done to lower it to 8.2-8.4? Many thanks : )
  8. Thanks Lemon....do I need to let the water mature or something? I have topped it up with treated sea water and the tank is bare except for the filter system. I think I will take the lights of. Thanks : )
  9. HiHi and Happy CNY to All I intend to set up a small quarantine tank (43cm (16.9 inches) x 26cm (10.25 inches) x 22.4cm (8.75 inches); 23 litres) and it comes with filtration and light. It is strictly a quarantine tank for new stocks and sick fish, what are the bare essentials do I need for a quarantine tank? any advice is most appreciated. : )
  10. Haha...in fact the other aspect SMRT can learn from HK is to indicate the changing of line on the indicators, for eg all the stations along the line will blink up where commuters are to change train, this way commuters will know if they are on the right track and if the stations they are heading are along the line at the next platform...WAKE UP SMRT!!!
  11. Haha...I think it is the other way round. Tho I am a true blue Singaporean, I must say our MRT system sucks and it stands pale compared to HK. HK transport infrastructure is so efficient and they have all modes of transport that you can think of: trains, cabs, buses (at least not monopolise by Govt as the bus companieS are privately owned), mini buses that run 24 hrs, ferry, trams etc. HK has those signs and stations indicators donkey years back and long before we had it in our trains...and as a heartlander like me, one will notice that sometimes the indicators in our trains don't work and if they did, it is not accurate, it is either one stop ahead or behind. So I dont bother to pay attention to those indicators in the trains anymore. I visit Mongkok fish street every week when I was working there and I wished we had something like that here. However, at least we have fish farms here and HK doesn't. Hope you had a great trip in HK, eating, shopping and fish hunting. Happy CNY
  12. Thanks...no issue with my current temp setting just that I read some conflicting advice that it shd be ard 26C. Thanks for your advice.
  13. Hilo Can someone advise me what is the acceptable temperature range if I have zoas, soft corals, anemones, clams, elegance corals, brain corals, cleaner shrimps and fishes in my tank...izzit 26-28C? Thanks
  14. OK..I may sound silly here answering to my own posting. Just want to share what Henry (Of Marine Life) has told me. Thanks Henry : ) The purplish sand is due probably to low PO4 which cause diatom to die off, thus exposing the coralline covered sand. I have confirmed this as suggested by Henry by taking the top layer of purplish sand and swished it in a container filled with a little tank water. And the purplish layer came off as loose matters, confirming that it's cynobacteria. To get rid of the purplish slime : Improve the internal flow which will help in getting rid of the redslime cyno. If it did not go away and continue to grow, to apply the red\slime remover to eradicate them. For info, GoodBye PO4 does not cause the redslime to appear. It was probably a coincidence where the PO4 level has reached a point where redslime thrive.
  15. Copepod@ Thanks for your advice
  16. Hello Reefers Does anyone know why the some area of the sand base became a layer of purple after I added Goodbye PO4. THe past reading of Phosphate of 0.25ppm has gone down to 0.03ppm. Thanks Cheerio : )
  17. Wow guys! it's amazing! so many yirky nudis crawled out of the zoas. Will do another round of dip today just in case the eggs are not hatched yet. I saw some worms too. Do I need to repeat until the corals start to open again or after two rounds, I can wait and observe for 2 days? Thanks
  18. Predatorfish@ Thanks will do that tonite in fact i am getting Coral RX and if I can't get hold of it, I will bath them in freshwater. I have some tap water that I set aside for a few days now, I shd be using tap water that has been set for a few days right? Thanks
  19. Thanks very much for sharing...I still hv lots to learn from you guys. Nitez : ) Mark
  20. Hi CFOh@ thanks alot, I caught 7 nudis in the tank. Yirks...don't know where they came from. Do you know any medicine that I can pour into the tank to kill those that are still in the tank.? Attached are my sleeping polyps.
  21. Dreamlover@ the last top up I used Iwarna's top-up. Thanks : )
  22. Onizuka@ Sorry will post it tonite
  23. Jameshong@ Thanks...good point and I have not checked yet cos I thot no algea Phosphate shd be okay. What shd I do if it is at critical level, apart from using solutions to reduce phosphate? dnsfpl@ Thanks...will keep a close watch on the blue tangs. Cheers Mark
  24. I hv 2 blue tangs, 1 scopas tang, 5 anthias, 3 dartfishes, 5 spotted cardinals, 2 cleaner shrimps, 2 boxer shrimps and that's about it and I think they are reef safe and I have not seen any of them nibbling at the corals/polyps. I did about 10% water change 3 days back but I don't think that was the cause. Still trouble-shooting, hiazzzzzzz
