  1. Hi bro Ken! Welcome to the salty side! I too crossed over from freshwater and regretted not doing so earlier! I currently and running a canister filter and like what bro Evolutionz said.. Canister is pretty mich a nitrate factory.. My experience is nothing dies but will start to farm diffrent varieties of algae... Its something quite hard to combat. Not saying should stay away from canister, just maybe can look at other forms of filtration.. Like a more powerful skimmer.
  2. I would be careful also about disturbing the sand bed as there is a possibility of releasing harmful substances into the existing water column..
  3. Hey bro, are you urgent looking for this skimmer?
  4. Hmm.. are you using live sand? if yes then i am very sure the live sand will help to seed the rocks when they go back in =) but do note that seeding the rocks will take a while so monitoring and preventing overfeeding is still important. I know there are beneficial worms and pest worms. I really hope they are not pest worms.. just not sure if it is a good indicator of a good seeded sand bed. do you have other forms of filtration for the moment? i think for the tank to rely on small pieces of live rock will be quite tough to maintain low ammonia levels.. but then again, if its just for another week, i wouldn't stress too much. especially with a good skimmer running. in the meantime while treating your rocks, i do recommend to watch those levels by testing and watch the feedlng. the biggest advice i can share is dont do anything rash immediately at the sight of a bad sign. chances are, we will freak out and cause more damage than actually fixing the situation.
  5. Maxspect great choice! By the way, what setting do you set? hehe i will put up the thread tmr! Been busy at work.
  6. I just tried this since last weekend. Previously dosing Microbe-Lift. Current setup using a canister filter. since use, i notice lesser skimmate on my skimmer.. I dont know what else to look out for actually.. other than ammonia levels.
  7. yup! add my 2 cents.. definitely works when you drill a hole in the outflow.
  8. haha 5D is still a 5D, bro! anyway, a better prime lens with a cheaper body is still better than a cheap lens with a 'pro' body
  9. Hi bro! i went through the same thing when i first started my tank... What I did was restart the tank. Took out the fishes and temporary leave them in a bucket, Take out all the rocks. do a big water change to suck up as much detritus as i can. then, i put the fishes back. With the rock, i soaked them in freshwater, and then hypersalinity dip. Saw a lot of worms and crabs and a few mantis shrimp crawl out. Finally i dripped some Coral RX. even more pests dropped out. you dont have to do this but im quite kiasu after i lost a few fishes to the mantis shrimp. then i rinsed them in old tank water and put them back in the tank. 6 months down the road, no issues experienced. This should help to prevent a lot of bacteria deaths. Alternatively, you can take out the rocks and brush them hard, bleach them and sun them. Make sure you rinse them very well. the rocks will turn white. I am not sure how long you should dry them out. But you can make them 'live' again when you put them back into your tank. Albeit a long process.. hope i've helped.
  10. Nice effort in starting your tank! Looking good! I agree with bro Carfyx. May I suggest to do more reading in this forum. To prevent further pest infestation, look up on dipping solutions for your corals like Coral RX or Revive. I have learnt A LOT from all the seniors here about this hobby. Take what LFS tell you with a grain of salt.

  15. definitely ah beng and GO. Although GO might just be the false rock work. i cant remember.
  16. Yeap! i find that using filter wool and felt filter sock polishes the water very well. Just that we need to be a bit more hardworking to change frequently to prevent gunk build up.
  17. haha! I dont have much gems now because waiting for new tank arrival next week... but will surely update here too in time to come! WHA! if any bigger then you can go snorkeling inside your tank la! thats the good thing about living outside singapore... SPACE and FREEDOM!
  18. oh dear =( sorry for your loss bro! could be due to stress that prevents its recovery? if not from fishes then its either there is a pest hiding in there or maybe even it was like that at the LFS already...
  19. just dose as per the instruction bro. Dont be afraid to dose normally or even overdose as well.. its okay to overdose a bit.. except that you will waste money lor.. Follow the instruction and do the calculations and after that keep testing the water.
