  3. Point taken and accepted. Then again, that's why I'm still new, and as such ... I know no better...as compared to you. Your topic title is much better than mine. I've no objections to you changing it. As to deleting the thread, I'll leave it to you. If you think it's a one off question or it's not important for newbies; then you can delete it. Thanks for offering a better suggestion.
  4. It's reflected in my 'Sent Items' box. Sent: Tick tock the 2nd reporting, Jan 29 2004, 11:15 PM This is what I wrote: "Would "Coralife Hydrometer reading" be a better topic title.. than "salinity reading" " Thanks.
  5. Why *Tick tock!* me ???? Anyway it's not life or death....so it's okay. Maybe you should change it to "Yellow card" Anyway before you *Tick tock!* me.....yes I tapped it and the needle went down. Didn't realised that I had to tap it hard. Thanks p/s: Yellow card sounds better!!
  6. Did my salt mix this morning.Using Tropic Marin. Up till now different areas of the tank (3 by 1.5) gives a different reading. The left hand front corner and the centre gives 1.022 - 1.024. The back and the right front corner of the tank reads 1.030. I've only one pump circulating the water. Should I be concerned about the difference in reading? Thanks.
  7. Could someone help me out here on the above topic? Thanks
  8. Will be collecting LR encrusted with coraline but, I haven't been able to get the sand yet. Intend to place the LR in the tank for the time being.Canister and skimmer have alraedy been already running for a week ...testing. Preparing saltwater tonight and will let it sit before putting LR in. If I leave the LR in the tank till I get the sand, is there anything I should be mindful of? Secondly would I still need to cure the LR again when I cycle the tank, which I intend to when I get the sand. Thanks
  9. Hi You'll find the answer faster if you go to the search icon and type "dust" or "brown". There's a fair bit of reading there. Hope you'll get what you need.
  10. Riot, Tried to PM you but your e-mail is not reflected and I just missed you before you went off line. Is the I-box still for sale or have you alredy sold it? Thanks
  11. Hi Just got back and sorry to keep you waiting. Can we make arrangements to confirm payment and collection. Thanks.
  12. Can I have the I-box. I'll make payment and collect it on Monday (26thJan)? Will be away from 24th and 25th. Can sms 96671515. Thank you.
  13. To all, Thanks and it's so much better than the other alternative "..... don't start and give away the tank!!" I'll probably do it at the balcony, cover it with a black trash bag with some holes for the gases to escape. Tanzy, Another question, When the smell is kinda' gone can I transfer the LRs into the tank and continue with the cycling process and would I need to use the same water or can I use a fresh batch of saltwater? This should wrap up this topic and once again thanks alot.
  14. Thanks. It's actually facing away from the steps
  15. Thanks for all your time and advice. Managed to find the thread. It's "HELP!!! Smelly water during cycling...." But it doesn't really help me. Mine is a double story flat. The tank is just half way under the staircase. The staircase leads up to the room. If I place the LRs in a deep container (with saltwater of course) outside the balcony, attach an air pump. Can it be done? The other concern is that both of us are not around at times and the flat can be closed up for afew days at a stretch. Need to find an alternative. 2nd hand LRs perhaps??
  16. I remember reading some advice regarding the above topic but, can't seem to find it. Tried search words like..."smelly", "cycle" , "LRs" , "HELP" and even "wife" (Hee! Hee!). I can't afford for the house to smell (precaution better than scolding). I'm looking at about 20 to 39kg of it. And I need all the help I can get. Help!
  17. Just out of curiosity, I'll be without a refugium and without a sump. I've been reading up on algae (not really looking forward to them). If I set up another smaller tank, and provide the same conditions to cultivate pods, could I then introduce it into the main tank to control the inevitable algae. Of course, the fish would have a feast but, is it workable. And what kind of quantity should I be even be considering of producing. A couple of other things. How often do they produce? Are they good food for the fish or are they just snacks for them? My questions may be silly (it's okay to laugh) but, I'm new. If I don't ask.. I won't learn. Thanks in advance.
