Coral chip will tends to trap more debris as compare to sand.
if the debris is waste or food... wouldn't the bacteria in the coral chip help to break it down?

used to have a pair of true perc in my 3ft tank
only the female grown to bigger size and lay egg regularly
but the male clown kinda remain ard 1 inch+ after 5 yrs

not cycling... is curing liverock
water change is trying to reduce / remove the "nutrients" or decay if any
ya remove phosphate ... ok

the liverocks were bought a week ago
saw small amount of short green and red hair alage grown on them 2 days ago
could have left the container in the balcony and forgot the sunlight may reach it.
the rock smells ok since day1 and now is even better so only did air-ing and water change every 3days so far, while waiting for the tank.
now continue to air it, water change and coverup to minimize stray light
what else can I do to kill off the alage?

I got my live rock, water, sand bed, True Perc all from a shop in Pasir Ris Farm Way, i dont think that shop has a name, Right opposite the entrance of Aquaempire, there is a Happy Prawning sign board, as you go in the second block on the left, with wet floors.
Where is this Ah Beng Shop? maybe its the same shop haha
