  3. I need a little help here.  I have a few pieces of $5 rock zoas, those cheap kind. Notice they open big and nice for quite a few weeks, then it started to close up and refuse to open. After 2-3 weeks staying close, these zoas will wither and waste away, not all, but most of the polyp on the rock.  What could be the problem? Those zoas that cost over $20-30 are doing fine and show no such sign. I'm puzzled, hope someone can shed some light. Thanks.

Your nutrition maybe too low for this cheap zoas. Zoas need at least some nutrition to survive.

  5. My personal 2 cent opinion . I've been using all sorts of trace dosing ...... ( other than regular KH, CA, MG ). I've stopped using all those for past 3 months especially carbon dosing , all my sps colored and no issues . But the hind side , I conduct regular water change once a week ( 20 % ) to keep No3 and Po4 in check , and of course control feeding.Somehow I personally feel if you have a good salt mix , I don't have to dose the others traces Pls don't "bomb " me , this experiment is only applicable to my tank

Yup good salt make big different. Personnal I recommand tropic marin sea salt. Some of my friend using it and there good improvement in sps colour. Because good sea salt should has more trace element as for tropic marin it stated 70 different type of trace element. The trace element I mean is not KH, CA and MG. But you need regular water change weekly and depend on your coral if your tank full of coral maybe water change not enough need to dose the colour element to maintain your sps colour. End of the day is what type of intense colour you aim for.
