  1. Very sorry to post my displeased here...

Recently I've bought Crystal Pro refilling resin (box package) from AM. To my astonishment, reading from test meter indicates 10ppm and 6ppm from both resins each respectively. I headed back to AM and did an exchanged. To make matter worst, reading from NEW resins worsened (55ppm and 18ppm)!! Just wanna know if anyone experiences such mishap? Any kind soul here care to share their bad experiences here.

It's very frustrating for all that inconveniences as I'm residing in the west area.

  2. There is no cyanide practice in Caribbean.. Rock beauty death is very common, most likely due to internal bacteria and parasite infection..

Let us face it, the fish is already dead and I've cough out S$50/- just to view it for a day... Be it whether the fish is killed by cynaide OR any other forms of infection, I had my punishment for negligence and inexperience for inpropoer selection upon purchase. Since this is a weekly update forum, let us focus on that...

  3. Do you happen to know the price of the sun burst anthias?

Eh.. For price, I think better call CF & ask auntie... :)

For buying fishes, I would strongly recommend ah bak as his fishes have gone through 7~10 days Hyposalinity treatment and Quarantine b4 release for sale. I have personnelly bought a few from him and all survive till now.

Whoa.. Whose Ah Bak? Where's his shop?

    Cheers

  4. Hey bros,

Just bought calupera algae from Ah Beng.. Drop them in my sump and discovered one of them turned very pale green after a day... What actually happened? I've been turning on my Dymax clip-on LED light 24/7 daily. Is it due to insufficient light OR strong intensity??

    Pls advice :)

    THANKS in advance..

if you notice a spike in your Nh4 and Nh3 , before it drop to zero it would mean that the cycling is completed. After which, you can do a 50% water change to reduce the nitrate N03 in the water .

However, do stock your new tank slowly as your tank is rather new , the system need time to acclimatize to the additional bio load you put in each time.

    Happy reefing.. cheers.gif

Thank you everyone :) Will take note of fish adding..

  6. Sorry pal.. You may try testing both NH4 & NH3 to ascertain their presence once again. If results are positive, it may explained everything. Just note not to add-in anymore LS till 02 weeks later at least :)

    Happy reefing..

Thanks bro.. :) For a moment I thought everyone's too busy to advice me  I shall run some tests again to ascertain results.

  7. Been cycling my tank for about 10 days.. Added market prawn and left them rot till super unbearable stench  In addition, I've been dosing Brightwell bacter on the 3rd day since market prawn's introduction. Took measurements with Salifert kits and found that NH4 0-25, NH3 0 and Nitrate 50ppm.. Bought a cleaner shrimp and a pair of australian clowns from Iwarna, place them in the tank and they have been surviving since then (about 3 days already). Does it mean my tank is fully cycled??

    Pls enlighten..

    Many thanks :)

  9.

For skimmer placement, the water level in the compartment has to be absolutely constant in spite of water evaporation. So typically, it's the 2nd compartment.

Many older 1st compartments are designed for filter wool, with wet-dry media below. That can take up quite a bit of space. If you plan to convert to using filter sock, removing the baffle between the 1st two compartment can free up quite a bit of space if you need it to fit in a bigger skimmer.

You can fit a few stalks of mangroves onto a floating piece of Styrofoam in the last compartment.

Many thanks bro. Appreciate your kindness to reply. I shall heed the advice. By the way, what kindda of mangroves can I adopt? Should I apply lights to these mangroves? :ThanxSmiley:

  10. So how crazy???

Have you ever seen your Skimmer cup overflow like this???

    Hi Bro,

    I'm a newbie... So I hope you that you can my below doubts;

    1) During cycling, since we have to cultivate good bacteria, shouldn't the skimmer be turned off till entire cycling process is completed?

    2) Why can't liverocks be mixed with freshly mixed salt? What should be the best appropriate time to place in the liverocks then?

    3) If ROWA-carbon is added, will it defeat the purpose of cultivating good bacteria?

I seek your expertise advice as my tank is arriving very soon......

    Thanks.

  11. I had a sump that separates by 03 compartments. Can any good people advice locations to skimmer and planted mangroves? My opinion (pls correct me if I'm wrong) to place some liverocks together with mangroves in the middled compartment and skimmer with the return pump. Will I acheive quality cycling if items are placed in such pattern? I need your advice(s).

    Thanks bro...

  12. 1. dosing bacteria? if you're cycling with live rocks, bulk of the bacteria should be already present to start with so you just need the prawn to kick of the cycle. if your parameters are stable after the process (ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates are tolerable if not 0 as well) you should be able to have your first fish. i personally find inverts alittle more sensitive but should be fine with proper acclimatization

    2. sure, thats what some reefers do

    3. i haven't got proper experience with either but you can always consider regular water changes as an alternative to those two choices. saves you the space as well.

    4. why would you have to replace them? you could probably wash them but to go so far as change out new ones is not what i'd do.

    5. i'd go with live rocks though they may be more expensive than coral chips but its not compulsory to have either. more rocks would boost your bacteria colonies but i feel that this should only be considered in the luxuary of space. space priority should still go to your equipments.

    6. mangroves (which i'm assuming will be grown in your sump since you're running an overflow) would surely need a light source to grow. you can quite easily get them on our sale forum here :)

    many thanks bro.
