  1. i think its a norm you bring the container (a.k.a. jerry can) to purchase water. i think.
  2. I am thinking of using the same method to draw water down into a sump. currently using cannister. My concern is, what if flow rate of water coming down is different from the flow rate of water going up? wouldn't that cause a flood? is there a standard for the power of the pump to bring water back into the main tank?
  3. i lost a maroon to my pair of true percs. and i thought the maroon was the fiercest of clowns. sigh*
  4. how much did u pay for them? usually common clowns don't fight. its only the true perculas that do.
  5. thanks for the info dazza. feeling much at ease now. Here's a pic of the abalone, is this the ones you're talking about?
  6. Hi there, would like to confirm now that i have a chiller, what should the ideal tank temperature by for a fish with coral (no sps) tank? am using T5s at the moment. 2 tubes white and 1 blue. what should be the illumination hours be? replies are appreciated. Cheerios
  7. have one in my tank. very hardy. cleared out my tank to 'refurnish' it. after clearing all life stock, i could not find my purple boxer. thought it might have died. its pretty shy so i don't see much of it. But when i removed my last live rock, there he was, clinging on for life. bought it when it was about an inch long. its still an inch long, maybe feelers abit longer, thats all that has grown. go for it. its a beauty. perhaps rescape your rock work so the caves face out.
  8. Hi everyone, I am doing post grad studies overseas and am returning to s'pore in dec. I just got an email from my dad that he bought an abalone ($5) and dumped it into the tank! ARGH!!!! have heard close to nothing about abalones in aquariums. What are the parameters for them? do they serve any function? does it move around? will it die slowly and cause a crash? am afriad by the time i return... the tank is a goner. Advise on this is greatly appreciated. Cheers everyone!
  9. oh and not forgetting a skunk clown too. anyways, the white anemone to my knowledge does not host clowns right if i am not wrong?
  10. wow! thanks for the advice everyone. evantually got a true perc, tomato, clarkii, false and a maroon and a purple tip anemone. however the maroon has since passed on due to aggression from the true perc. strange, thought maroons were the real gangster. the tomato seems peaceful.
  11. picture? hang on ahh. give me a bit of time. anemone is running around the tank. even onto my polyps again... does anyone who has an anemone who is permanently on a coral? does this happen?
  12. hi flametail, thanks for the advice. recently got a purpletipped anemone. so for its been quite stable, staying near my water outlet (rainpipe). BUT it had to sit on my zoos... I then moved the entire colony of zoos with the anemone on top, to the sandbed. sure enough, the bugger crawled back up to the same spot. but now on a rock instead of my zoos. phew* In the day, its guarded by my pair of true perculas, occasionally visited by my common clown. however, in the night, the true percs, common clown and clarkii sleep in it. have a skunk and a tomato clown. skunk too afraid to go near due to the other clowns, but my tomato just cant be bothered by it. strange!
  13. i would say cuke. where did u get it from? what did the lfs shop say?
  14. heard its difficult to keep one as it releases toxins occasionally? is that true? is that as good as a tank crash?
  15. Anyone has pictures of their seahares? THanks!
  16. Hi all, Am setting up a tank mainly of clownfishes and simple corals like mushrooms and polyps. have hammerhead (branching) too. would be getting a pair of each species, true percular, false percula, clarkii and black and white percular. i was thinking of also maybe one tomato and one maroon. is that pushing it? would there be like war in the tank? my tank is 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.5. and T5 lighting. What sort of anemone is suitable? and i think i would be getting only one, after so many horror stories of it getting sucked into power heads. was thinking maybe a medium sized bubble tipped. carpet is too aggressive isn't it? i currently have 1 blue damsel and 1 purple pseudochromis.
  17. what is the ratio of carbon to place in filter in relation to tank size?
  18. i see i see. i am also using a canister filther. hmm... i may attach it to my filther. thanks for that! anyone out there using powerheads?
  19. Hi everyone, I would like to find out what strength of powerhead anyone is using for their CL280 resun chiller. Or anyone who knows a suitable powerhead for this chiller. currently am using a 2000 l/min powerhead. is that too powerful? or weak? Thank you
  20. dont think there's any sand inside. brand new, since i attached the hoses, the noise is here. so is it too weak or too powerful? i think it may be too strong. anyone to back up this claim? thanks ervine, subxero and alvin tan for your inputs!
  21. u could also use a small container (mug, plastic takeaway container etc) to place sand inside. invert the container only when u have brought your container to the bottom of the tank.
