  1. Hi br0, it's kinda hard to make out its tail...either dove or sharp. It's kinda small, leh. I m begining to think that it may be this guy (pic). Thank for the "euplica"...I will look it up.
  2. Holy cow! Feast on SPS......remind me of the 'panda'...eats, shoots, and leaves.... Yes, i will try to keep an eye on it, but it's kinda small and so far just sitting around the LR.
  3. Hi bro, In my recent encounter with ICK, I find medication useless and just stressed out the fishes. Kill the ICK by hyposalination. ICK's mother, father son, eggs...etc....can't stand low SG of 1009. Your FOWLR will do fine at that SG. Search hyposalination here...u should be able to find lots of useful links. Lots of bro here hv encounters with ICK sooner or later. If your fishes start to show cloudy eyes, hyperventilate, loses their colours, tends to swim near surface....it serious alreadi. The ICK has gotten into their gills and eyes and under their skins. Your fishes are suffering terribly. Drastic situation calls for drastic measures. If I were u, I will drop the SG from 1023 or 1025 down to 1009 within 24 hrs or sooner. Don't worry about killing the fishes..they can tahan low SG. In any case, if u don't do this quickly, those cloudy eyes ones will probably died very soon. Good Luck.
  4. Hi all, Any of u guys can id this little snail? Sori for the horrible photo but it's about 3mm in size and white in colour. Just saw it attached to a LR. Is this one of those snails that pose a threat to clam or the reef? Snail
  5. Hi sorry to bug in. I m also thinking of getting the PH controller. Would u mind sharing the price and where to get.
  6. .........missing screw disappeared in somewhere in the 'face' (circle). Upz for sales.
  7. Hi all. Just bought an Ehiem 2250 (rated at 1200L/H) internal filter but found that it is not suitable for my tank. Bought $120 today. Got receipt. In tank for less than 10 minutes. Asking $100. Not negotiable - alreadi discount $20 plus got free gift. Must advise potential buyers that one of the screw dropped behind my LRs and disappeared. Anyway, I don't find the screw really nec.ly. I can provide extra rubber pads and securing the pump is no problem. I will throw in a FREE Big Boy powerhead (rated at 2200L/H) - used less than 3 mths - for any buyer. PM me for deal.
  8. I think it's having "stringing excretion" and this means the fish is having some kinda of disease....probably of the digestive tract.....can't remember the precise nature of the disease though. But I certainly won't buy a fish with "stringing excretion".
  9. Similarly here. I hv a 4 footer in my room and it seems ok for me. But I must say my room is kinda big and elongated so with the tank at one end and my bed at the other end, the noise isn't that back. Other factors that reduce noise include a good tank cabinet, and at nite, when my aircon is on, the chiller doesn't fire up (so no sound) becos my aircon keeps the tank temp at 25degree. (I set my aircon at 24degree.) Having said that, I once stayed in a smaller room with a 2footer and a chiller. Only had a fan in the room and on some nites it felt like a sauna..... So I guese if u wan to keep in your room, u can but there are factors to consider to keep noise level down. Worst case scenario......still wan to sleep and look at your fishes at the sametime.....wear ear plugs
  10. Yours is a FOWLR? That's makes dealing with the outbreak alot easier. I had the same problem some time ago after I introduced a Powder Blue. Drop the SG to 1009 (make sure the reading is correct - they recommend a lab glass hydrometer or a refractometer) and hold it for about 4-6 weeks. That kills the ICK and also create a less stress environment for the fishes (lower SG is easier for fishes to osmolate [?]). In the interim, continue to maintain good water quality with regular water changes (20% or 30%). (U do not hv inverts, but urs LR contain organisms like worms, craps will die from the reduced SG and 'dirty' your water.) Do this and your ICK will go away. Oh yes, read that article on the life stages of the ICK. It will help you to understand why sometimes the ICK seems to go away and comes back again (with a vengence) after a week and help you to determine how to get rid of the pests. Good luck.
  11. IMHO, unlikely that switching off the skimmer can result in death of the fishes overnite. Did u dose anything before the incident? Overdosing can cause pretty fast mortality rate cos the water chemistry changes too quickly. Or did u add anything else into the tank which may hv contaminated the water and poisoned the fishes. Anyway, my sympathy for your loses.
  12. Hi bro.....just sharing my 2 cents worth Concerning some of your ??..... Wavemaker - For my previous 3ft, I was using 1x Seio 620 that pumps out more than 2000l/hr, a few power heads and my return from the sump (1x ehiem 1260). Sounds like overkill but I really wanted to make sure there wasn't any 'dead spot' for dentritus to accumulate. I think if u just get 2xSeio and placed them in the rite position, there should be sufficient water movement......your placement of LRs also plays a part. For me, I tried to make sure (as far as possible) that there are 'flow thru' channels amoung the rocks for water to circulate instead of one whole lump of LRs just sitting closely packed together.... Lighting - I m not too sure about your lighting. But I would guese that your current configuration would hv do given the considerations for heat and space (you do not want a chiller). Fans would certainly help to bring the temp down. Just to sidestep a little....sometime ago, I was staying in a really small room and I had a 2 footer with a 2 ft sump and a chiller (CL280). I slept less than a metre away from the system and when I close my door, the entire room felt like a sauna... No aircon some more.... Sump - Ummmm...it's a personal preference for me I guese. I can't figure my marine system without a sump. The sump serves lots of purposes - it expands the vol of water...make the system more stable, a place for dosing, provide a refugium for pods to grow, caulapa for nutrients export, and you can hv a DSB. But I do not think that means u can't upgrade to a 3footer without a sump. I hv seen a few tanks operating w/out sump but with limited livestock. Btw, the sump need not sit directly below the tank....as long as u can hv it connected to the main tank somehow. With a little imagination and passion, u could probably configure something even with the space constraints. Good luck.
  13. Hi bro, allow me to share a little based on what I hv gone thru..... I started this hobby a few years ago with (also) a 2 ft tank with basic filter and lighting. Soon I found that there wasn't enuf space in the tank for scaping rocks and livestocks which I wanted to add. I subsequently changed to a 3 footer and then changed again to the current 4X2X2.5 tank. I learnt that the advice given by those marine books that said "you shld go for the largest tank that you could possibly afford by space, time and money" - is good advice. Having said that I recognises that you hv space constraint. Your intended 3 ft tank shld work well cos my previous 3 footer was only 5 or 6mm and I had no problem even with lots of LR. (But if u are thinking of wave making devices - it's a different ball-game; generally more vigorous water movement, increases water pressure). In place of PL (which gave out quite alot of heat), perhaps u want to consider T5 (I had mine from Dr Evil - 2xT5 and they are really good stuff - light and low heat) and another FL (one 10K and one antinic blue). How much lights u hv really depends on what u intend to keep. The above (which I used for my 3footer) was sufficient for my mostly FOWLR and temp did not go above 28 (w/c I believe is ok for FOWLR) esp.ly with a fan. If u want to keep coral, u probably hv to invest in a chiller (and keep the temp stable at ard 26) and a MH. I used a Resun CL280 (cheap, cheap, )and Jebo MH (which I added later) for my three footer and they worked beautifully to keep temp at 26-27 (even with additional water vol from a two footer sump). Filteration is kinda complex. But basically u hv to consider biological, mechanical and chemically filtration and how big/cpmplex your filter system is, depends on the size/type of your livestock. I used OHF before for my two footer but I had a small sump and cannister added to the filteration system. If u are thinking of just OHF - I don't think that would be sufficient even with cannister. U probably hv to do lots of regular maintenance to keep nitrate within acceptable level. If u are thinking of IOS, then I guese u r considering a small sump? (becos the IOS hv to overflow into somewhere, rite). A 3footer with an IOS into a small sump below the tank - sump can serve as DSB and refugium - would be good.
  14. Of cos, I wldn't take it personally. I do not know u, do I? Besides, u provided some information as well on the possible cause of death and that's what I wanted to know. Seamonkey - Thanks bro, u represent the kind of seniors who are most appreciated here.....cool, calm and collected and full of info.
  15. Thanks bro for the kind offer.......got my QT alreadi. Perhaps, u can offer it to Acidjazz n try and wrangle some deals from him. He has got some pretty good 'lobangs'. (Rite, Acidjazz? )
  16. Alex for the tank....n delivered all the way to my house some more....wow, what more can I ask.
  17. Hi, Thanks alot. I m currently waiting for Alexgo.....who has said he will let me hv his tank. Acidjazz - Hey bro, if u wan this tank it's ok with me, if it okk with the 'giver'. Btw, still considering the CR? Someone recently selling $300...I think, Check it out. Cheers. Yes. The bros here are very kind and generous.
  18. Hi, Is there anyone here with a good condition, clean 2 ft or 1.5 ft tank to give away. I need to set up a quarantine tank. If u hv, pls PM me. Thanks abunch.
  19. Hmmm....a possibility indeed. The QT was set up with 50% water from main tank and 50% newly mixed water....but It was left standing for less than 24 hrs. So yes, could be. for info on possible cause of death.
  20. Hi bro, I had a battle with a full blown outbreak of ICK a few weeks ago. Wipe out all my fishes except for my damsel and common yellow goby. I find Hyposalination is very effective although it's time-consuming and very inconvenient if u hv inverts in your tank as well. My tank is ok now and I hv added a Purple Tang and a few pymy angels for more than 3 weeks now and all is well. Look carefully to see if the white spot....spread on your angel. If it doesn't and it is just one speck and go away after awhile, I opined that it's just probably dirt stuck to the mucous membrance of the fish.....no cause for alarm. ICK usually spread pretty quick and the affected fish quite quickly (a few days) will be covered with definitely more than 'one' speck. Follow the link to some useful information on marine ICK and treatment. Hope this help ICK
  21. Thks bro. It's really a pity. It's such a beautiful angel. Well, unless someone can offer some clues as to waht could hv gone wrong...I really want to avoid a 'repeat'....cos I m certainly getting another one.
  22. Angel died this morning . Can't explained it...one moment it was ok, swimming around and the next....... Perhaps, it's the quarantine tank, hv to re-set up.
  23. Hi, hv a Korallin CR 1501 for sales. Bought brand new but can't seemed to tune it so selling.......follow the hyper-link and PM me if interested. FS - Korallin CR 1501
  24. Thks for the inputs. I didn't c that thread but will take words for it.
