  1. Hi, not sure if this is a stupid question, but here goes. Does copepods "free-swim" or do they only crawl around? If free-swimming, won't copepods be trapped in the wool filter when the water is filtered through it? Thus when we change wool filter, we will be throwing away these good pods.
  2. Hope I'm not asking for too much, but does anyone have a broken down chiller that they are going to throw away? I'm trying to scrap some parts for an experiment:)
  3. Need photos to identify. Wild guess is its Copepods, which is good.
  4. Bro Dreams, Please seriously consider the way you are approaching this hobby. Many kind reefers have offered you invaluable advise and tips to help make your system work. Bro Liquidnoise is even offering to lend you a Skimmer and test your water for you. How much more helpful can one get?
  5. If the bubbles are coming out from the rainbar, then like another reefer mentioned, likely air is being sucked into your canister or piping, creating micro bubbles in your outlet stream. You would have to investigate where the leak is and fix it. If it is foaming caused by normal water agitation, then likely your protein level is currently too high. Skimmer would solve it. As for the smell, it should go away after this cycle is finish and major water change done. But if you really really cannot bear with it, use Activated Carbon to get rid of it. Good luck:)
  6. Whether you use with or without the rainbar, your water outlet needs to be below water level. This will prevent saltspray and bubbling. If you are unable to extend or change the pipe such that it goes below water level, then add a combination of elbow-pipe-elbow, to make it go below. Or you can also raise the tank water level higher to submerge the outlet.
  7. Unless the rainbar is glued to the elbow, else you should be able to rotate it at the joint of the elbow to the bar. Submerge the rainbar and rotate to angle it slightly upwards so that agitates the surface water. This should solve your problems with the bubbles. Then add Carbon into the flow circuit and it should remove your problem of smell, as well as make the water look clearer.
  8. Is Sea Life in Bukit Merah? I had thought its Balestier. Never been to that lfs. Any feedback on their quality and price?
  9. Both pics not clear, but 1st one could be amphipod. 2nd one becareful may be an isopod. If in doubt, best to remove.
  10. I think Irwarna brought in Catalina Goby couple weeks back. Can call them to check.
  11. Maybe the foaming is due to the die-off from the LR.
  12. No luck baiting it. I may have to remove the LR to flush it out with water.
  13. Yes, a fan will create more evaporation. But Top Up should be with RO Water or Distilled Water. Please do not Top Up with Sea Water, it will increase the salinity of your tank water.
  14. Chiller is good to have, but not a must. If his normal temperature is 25-26 Deg C, I don't see why he needs a Chiller. However with that said, I'm surprised the normal temperature can be so low. Is it an air-conditioned room?
  15. Fishes, I feed once a day with pellets, and 2-3 times a week with Mysis. Corals, I tried feeding hammer and Octo with Mysis, but I don't see them feed. That's why I tried Reef Rod and Phytoplankton. But now I stopped Reef Rod & Phytoplankton.
  16. Mine reef rod and phytoplankton not expired.
  17. Bro, I had similar experience as you. Some time back, I was feeding my tank a mixture of poly lab reef rod and phytoplankton about one/twice a week. All I had in tank at that time was, a couple of clowns, hammer, octo coral, zoas, yuma-mushrooms, jewel/gonio and a xenia frag. The next day after feedings, my mushrooms would shrink and spew black stuff out from it mouth. I thought it may be just expelling excessive waste due to the rich feeding, so I just continued the practise. However, 2-3 weeks of feeding later, I lost my hammer, followed by octo then jewel and lastly the xenia, all died in a span of less than 2 weeks. I do not know if it was the feeding, or something else. But I just stop feeding the reef rod & phytoplankton mixture since.
  18. If water flows from Tank 1 into Tank 2, and then from Tank 2 into Chiller, and then from Chiller back into Tank 1. Technically speaking, in this set up, Tank 1 will experience a lower temperature than Tank 2. Temperature difference between tanks would depend on tank size, temp setting & ambient temperature.
  19. Should plan & think carefully before starting. This hobby does not just require money & time, but it also requires responsibility. These are after-all lifes that are in your hands. Be it a $1 fish or $100 fish, it is still a life and should be well taken care of, should you decide to start the hobby. Reef safe, reef happy
