  1. Congrats! I bet that must be the best present your wife has ever given to you. My son is exactly 9mths today. Ever since he's born, I'm much much happier everyday. Now, I wake up in the middle of the night just to look at him sleeping and sayang him. The feeling and comfort is so intense and I love the feeling that I'm a dad. I guess you must be feeling the same now. Happy for you and your wife! Congrats!!!
  2. Really admire your phototaking skill. All the pics are so nice and sharp. I can never take this kind of pics. The algae is a pest, try to pull off as much as possible, but don't let the parts and bits drift to other parts of the tank. Do it during water change and can siphon off when plucking them. Next if possible, cover the remaining with epoxy to kill them off completely. This may sound drastic measure but it's always good to remove all pest algae in its early stage. Just my suggestion.
  3. I'm a owner of a tank that is designed as a partition. The good point is that it look nicer as all equipment are neatly hidden and the overall partition make it "flush" with the house funiture etc. However there are many disadvantage such as; 1) It's more costly to setup; 2) It's more tedious to do tank maintanance due to the restriction of the hood opening etc; 3) Need more planning before setting up to ensure all equipment can be housed(such as skimmer and chiller etc) as the aim is to have all item fully conceal. 4) It's more headache when you want to upgrade/remove the tank . It'll be very ugly to the whole house. Point #4 is especially important as I'm facing this problem now. If it's a normal fish tank, I can simply discard and get a new bigger tank. However being part of a partition, I'll need to tear down the whole partition and re-wire the electricity etc. It'll be very messy/dusty and I need to engage a contractor to do this work.
  4. Getting the next bigger chiller may be better if you intend to upgrade. Also you don't have to worry when you need to add more heat generating equipments etc.
  5. Just quoting an advise from another full deltec user: Apply lubricating silicon gel on the o-ring before twisting to close the lid during the first use. The silicon gel is the type used for diving and is available from diving accessory shop. You may want to check with those SRC diver on where to get the gel.
  6. Managed to locate the date of the "reefkeeping" magazine. The online "reefkeeping" magazine dated May 2002 contained the article on "A uide to using CR" will be useful to you. Sorry, I don't know how to copy the link to here.
  7. The feature #8 is very important. The lid just twist and open for ease of re-filling the medium. For your tank size, and you're not into sps, it more than sufficient. In previous RC "reefkeeping" magazine, there are a few chapters of CR tuning and info etc, you can refer to them. When I get my CR, this is how I tune my CR with pH controller help; Day 1 , KH=9.6, Set pH controller at 6.2, turn on C02 solenoid for 2hours period, measure KH at 2 days later; Day 3(2 days later), KH=8, Then it means the CR cannot sustain the KH consumption, I then increased the hr to 4 hours period and pH remains the same, re-measure at 2 days later; Day 5(another 2 days later), KH = 7.8 ~8 range. It indicated the CR can sustain the KH consumption since the KH remain stable. Then I fixed this setting. Next I used KH buffer to raise till my ideal approx KH 9.4 range(my preference range). This setting will remain for the time being, but if you change the lighting regime or increase more coral/clams(or more coralline algae) etc, you will need to check the KH and increase the hrs or drip rate accordingly. Hope these info on CR tuning helps.
  8. They're most probably copepods. Left them alone as they're good for your tank.
  9. Those super sun corals are actually in quite bad shape after nipped by angel recently. But at peak healthy the open polyp is close to 50cents diameter, very stunning. I think may need a week or so to heal it back to its former glory. As for feeding, they may need to be target feed with mysis shrimps etc for the time being till its healthy again. After that, once its tentacles are fully extended, it should be able to capture mini food like cyclopeeze etc. But periodically target feed of market prawns etc is still preferred in the long run. Btw, they've adapted to feeding ocean nutrition pellet formula 1(medium size) which will be "cleaner" for your tank. The bigger polyps can take up to 5 medium pellets at one go. * Small size pellet don't work for some reason* Nice meeting you last night.
  10. Hi, Try not to stare directly at regal angel, this will scared it even more and caused it to stop feeding. Instead place the food near to its fav hiding area and only monitored casually(you facing at other places but eyesight sweep across). Hope this helps.
  11. I think the Schuran Jetstream1 is very neatly designed. It's can wall mounted. You can considered that but it's quite ex. You can check it out at ML which has a sample.
  12. Hi jervismun, Are you really interested in super sun corals? I've 2 colonies of super sun corals about 9~10 polyps which I'm giving up as I can't afford the time to target feed them every now and then. Can give to you FOC as I think you'll provide better care for them than me. Sms or pm me, and we can arrange for meetup.
  13. It's ok to get a bigger CR, you can just adjust shorter CO2 on-time. I'm using PF601 and my CO2 is only on from 4pm to 8pm. Just that it may look ugly as you don't have a cabinet to hide this bulky equipment.
