    MY DIY Tank!!

Best of Luck Alvy, A gentle reminder to make sure your joint between glass panel have equal spacing, I believe glass of 15mm above will have less than 5mm of thick silicone between the glass @ joint. PET
  3. I got my friend who work nearby to check it out and it turn out to be an empty search. The owner says that he has no idea of making any these aquarium chiller !!!! PET

    MY DIY Tank!!

Hi Alvy, I'm curious to find out the thickness of silicone that goes between the glass at the joints, especially at the 4 corners adjacent to the base. I believe different glass thickness and size require different silicone thickness. BTW the black silicone is not recommended for longterm use, especially for big tanks clear type is prefer??? Would like to hear your view. Thanks, PET
  5. Wonder if any of you have come across drop-in type chiller locally? It seems that it's a trend oversea to do away with the pumping work and install a titanium coil drop-in type chiller. Any comments on the performances? Thanks, PET
  6. Hi Guys, Any update from the DIY chiller, it;s efficiency and also power consumption$$?? Thanks, PET
  7. I'll try not screw up someone's business, but the real fact is that all or most LFS have their supply come from the same source. Just observe...when one LFS has the specific coral, most LFS has it as well. It's individual shopkeeper's business style that set the price. The middle man in Bali, philippine or even ORCA Pacific, sells to these LFS the same price and flight charges will be equal! The final price depends on the survival rate of the life_stock. I personally feel that CoralFarm demands respect in this aspect, as they have good discount + fix pricing = good business ethnic. The rest of the LFS, simply price on site, that's as they wish; the same product will be different price to different buyer. A word of advise if you think coral farm has bad service....with that type of setup, how many hundred Kilos of coral U need to purchase to demand service? Good time to wake up......... Regards, Pet
  8. Hi DragonGoby, do you mena the Alteco or Selleys? My Alteco seems OK using it underwater, except for curing period of at 2~3hrs. PET
  9. Yazid, from my experience on 2 similar incident, I would recommend that you place a piece of THICKwhite foam or THICK soft black rubber mat under your sump. The uneven weight distribution cause the crack- > it still happen even with 8mm glass, unless you going for 15mm!-> greater tolerance but burnt $$$$$$$. From your glass crack point, I'm 100% sure that's the main problem. If you do not believe, borrow a construction type balancing ruler and place it flat on your cabinet base, you will notice not it is not competely flat. I collect my house recently and I realised that the damn floor of the HDB is not completely flat. Talk about quality of HDB...damn. Regards, Pet
  10. HI UFO, Can you reserve for me, will collect on the coming Monday from Sembawang MRT. PLse SMS me @ 9755-7784 to confirm. Thanks, PET
  11. HI guys, haven;t got the time to read thru the manual. But on the outside, it stated 2 and max 3 hrs to be cure for use. Max strength is 24 hrs and after. So do not move the part or whatever you have paste with. Have not use it since waiting for my new tank to arrive. BTW the attached picture is the small tube. I got the half KG(500g) type. HDB use it to glue pipe leakages....I don't any Singaporean dead? It's the same with Wessbond in terms of application and BEST OF ALL...IT IS MADE IN SINGAPORE!
  12. Thanks for advise, give it a try and see how it goes. Pet
  13. Guess I miss out the important detail. There is this red slime algae boom just at the sand bed, even with 5x water changes over 1 mth + ###### out the aglae doesn't hep. My water current /motion is set full bast, with additional powerheads installed. Wondering if my sand has too much silicate? Added in several big bottles of Phosguard and NO and NH is all low. Totally lost. Thanks, Peter Peh
  14. Yah, safe for human thru water piping, if human can take it, I guess it should be reef safe? Thanks, Pet
  15. Guys, I've a 1/2 KG Wet Epoxy Putty that cure in 2 hrs @ $20. Taking 35g Wessbond @ $4.50, It will be 70% CHEAPER getting the 1/2 kg pack for new tank setup. You probably take 1/2kg of this bond to get 200kg of LIVEROCK ON A 4X2.5X2 FT tank without the egg crate support - referring to Berlin setup. Anyone need the tip-off on the shop - PM me for info PET
  16. Thanks for everybody's input! Berlin for my next tank! BTW, when I meant Ecosystem, I'm referring to the miracle MUD thing use vs a normal refurgium. Does this work? Regards, PET
  17. Tanzy, any comment on the following berlin setup as per attachment. I'm think of using such a setup for my new tank -> Ecosystem + Berlin. BTW, any of the GURU here uses the ecosystem? Another American DREAM? Thanks for Inputs, Pet
  18. Thanks guys, I have see thick layers/patches of black & brown color forming thru the glass walls along & below the 4 inch sand. DSB has been great with 0~10ppm Nitrate level thru out the year. This might also be due to my high CLAM population in the Tank. Recent I notice that there's an algae boom, bothb red and brown slime and seeing lots of bubbles rising from the sandbed and also seeing bubbles form within and deep inside the sand bed. Everything looks good, NO, NH as good as zero, raise PH to 8.4 from 8.1 and rasie calcium from 500 to 750!, stop feeding for a week, but the sand bed still have the same sympton, have change 5 X 15% of the water over the past 1 mth. I also want to clarify that, my setup is a 4inch DSB using grade 1 & 3 sand, lots of activity in the sandbed - worms & whatever you can name it........ Was wondering plenum is a better option? Also with the price of aragonite at $150 ->20lbs pack? I'm considering moving to a old Berlin style with lots of liverock and no sand base with my new 4ft tank? Thanx a Million for your input, Pet
  19. I would like to add my experience with the 6500K, 20KK and 50KK Iwasaki, I believe all these are petty good products and you wil go wrong with it for your reef health. My experience is limited to Iwasaki, so I wouldn't comment on other brand. For the yellowish spectrum thru the 6500K, you can replce the filter glass on your pendant, by buying a replacement bluish tinted glass cut to your dimension. You can try Sun SUn glass at Tagore Lane, but make sure you check the % of tint and UV cut from the glass. A thineer glass will have less dispersion, allowing a more focus intensity that's what MH is for. The 20KK is a very good product. It's bluish in color -looking direct, but thru the glass+water it appear white, a lower PAR, but I believe still better than the competition. BTW I've tested on my 1.5 inch to 6.6 inch clam for over 1 mths period and have notice significant outer shell growth. I wrote to a fellow reefer in US and he's been trying out a standalone 50KK - 150W X4 over his 4ft X 4ft X 2.5 ft tank(8inch Plenum{sand + egg crate}) - SPS + Clam and he has reported NO difference in growtrh rate of both Invertbrates and SPS over the pass 9 mths. Review has been positive, he using Ushio X3 + Iwasaki 6500K X2 in the pass. Just a FYI, Any reefers out there using 50KK? I
  20. Hi Fellow Reefers, I would like to have your input on the plenum setup vs the bare-bottom (no sand at all, just TONs of LIVE rocks) Old Berlin style. I would like to have actual real life experience not assumption, as my DSB has just collapse! Looking for ideas to reset to plenum and or Berlin(live rock only) preference is to have a live rock only main tank with Detritrator @ sump with monthly siphoning of waste at bottom. Thanxs for any valuable feedback, especially whom have success over a 2 years period, Pet
  21. Hi Dino, Where did you got the light hood with the inbulit electronic ballast? Keen to know. Thanks, Pet SMS: 9755-7784
  22. Selling my mated pair of Maroon (Yellow/gold stripe) clown together with 2 x Anemone. Anyone interested, plse SMS me your price @ 9755-7784. Size is 1 Lg(Female) and 1 small(Male). Thanks, Pet
  23. Hi AT, Do you glue your Live Rock together? I saw Pac Marine, using some sort of clay type glue to stack up their live rock and coral. BTW, where to get those clay type glue? Thanks, Pet
  24. Thanks guys, I'm going for Plenum for my next tank, my DSB of 4 ~ 5inch is giving me problem. I believe the local #1 coral chips is not 100% coral chips, it's a mixture of sand and it contain too much silicate, causing a algae boom in my tank! I'm bring in a branded sand from US next round, considering the daylight robbery price tag from AquaMart. Regards, Peter Peh
  25. Hi Guys, 1 thing missing from the discussion is the efficiency of DSB with and without a bottom supporting struture. I've seems various report and report using bottom supporting structure and seeding of egg shells helps. Any commends, Thanks Pet
