  1. It's not so much on the savings part (it is a factor in everything. Especially in this expensive hobby of ours. ) but the fact that i can't find ANY.
  2. The local office of the DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) which is the government department in charge of just that, natural resources. They said two sacks is ok. Doesn't matter though as i plan to bring them back since i found aragonite over here. The supplier labels them as silica sand and it goes for $4USD. It's not pure though as not all disolved but it's better than what i asked for as NO ONE here sells aragonite.
  3. Thanks for the great info Bawater! Just found aragonite a supplier labels as silica. Will be installing the DSB maybe this weekend! Thanks again!
  4. Also, Aragonite dissolves in the water at minute levels over time which actually gives it it's buffering ability. You will be adding some over time to maintain the ideall depth. Also, 4" upwards is the reccomended size for fine sand. You can check this link out. DSB Or this one Bawater just suggested to me. DSB_2 HTH!
  5. By the way, thanks for the blue baby input. Will do a little more tests.
  6. Thanks for the info bawater! An RO/DI unit is still out of my budget right now but will look around for other types of caulerpa. The grape indeed does "Melt" . It's also the cause of my current algal bloom. Sadly, it took a couple of casualties with it. The reason i asked is because i have been waging a battle with my nitrates. Turns out, my deep well water contains a bit even as tap. I'll be installing a DSB in a couple of days. Would you know how i can seed this? Again, many thanks for your infos. Ken
  7. Just wondering, wouldn't that be popeye syndrome? Never seen one in Marine but it might be this one. LINK
  8. Hi guys! I can't find aragonite over here and the white sand being sold at LFS are of silica variety. So i decided to just got two bags of sand from the local beach (legally of course). Typical gray sand. Had them rinsed well and will let them stand for a week. Anyway, while rinsing them, i included cleaning my powerhead and found black filings from the sand stick to the magnet impeller part. Is this anything to be concerned about? I remember playing with these filings from beach sand ever since i was a kid and know for sure that this beach isn't a man made one. I hope it's ok though as i'm left with no more choices. TIA! Ken
  9. Hi guys! Been having brown algae problems for quite a while in my FOWLR. Just checked our deepwell tapwater and Tetra NO3 tester says its at 12.5ppm. Well that figures. Since Reverse Osmosis is out of my budget as of the moment, i tried caulerpa culture. Problem is, LFS don't have them here. I remember eating this one time so asking around identified this as "The Grape Caulerpa" (cant remember the scientific name). So i placed a bunch in the sump. My sump contained 4 pieces of LR, nothing more. Installed a NO flourescent that was on 24/7. After a week, they all wilted. What gives? The only thing i noticed is that the pvc pipe that pours water into it is bubbly and a bit strong. They did get smashed about a bit. I lessened it but still no luck. Any ideas? Replacements? TIA! Ken
  10. same here! Would you send overseas? =) I'll get one if you do!
  11. Hi guys! New to the forums! Was invited over by a friend from WetWebMedia who is based there in Singapore. Just wanted to say that i too have been having the same problem with my LiveStock. My specs are in my sig below. Typically, my fishes wouldn't last more than two months. They would mysteriously die after being healthy all day till the day before they die. Like my green chromis that ate like crazy everytime i feed. Very mobile, very alert, perfect occular condition... next day, floating. Have narrowed my hunches to my DeepWell water source, my 28-29degC temperature, and to an unknown invert that has bee creeping out of the rocks like plastic mans arm.
