  1. Protect your back man! similar to you I got a herniated (spell?) disc. Took me 2 years to recuperate (80%). I understand and feel your pain and discomfort too... I believe my discomfort cannot be compared to those who kenna slipped disc...

This hobby confirm backache one... Aquascape liao see not good enuf sure aquascape again.. heehee...

End of the day you gotta assess your own condition to decide. I don't think the tank size matters. Its the reefer that counts.

IMO, damaged discs are for life. There are no second chance. Protect yourself for you and your family.

  2. I think this is what they call fibreboard (thats what the uncle told me).

I saw it at one of the shops around sentosa marine... The shop is at a corner selling only tanks and cabinet... has a koi pond outside.

Definitely not made with styrofoam. I remember quite X though... 3 digits...

  3. A bit :off: here

Any comment on Oceanic Natural sea salt mix???

Yup. Not bad... Did some measurements on freshly mixed Oceanic saltwater. KH 8, PH 8.2, Ca 150-250 (ambiguous, i'm bad at interpreting color changes)...

Cloudiness? Yes. But you gotta let it stir for a couple of minutes before adding it into your tank. I place a mini powerhead in the fresh mix for half an hour or so (minimum) before pouring in my tank.

cos now my tank still seem cloudy. (after 3hrs of mixing). cant be the sand, cos i slowly added the sand in to prevent my water to be cloudy.

Let it run... I believe it'll clear. My friend's using Coralife salt. No complaints from him.

  4. I assume you're talking about BTA?

I guess the one of the problems with BTA is that when they grow so big that it obstructs the extension of neighboring tube worms/corals... denying them from their food. Not to mention that they move around a lot till some place they like...

I'd tried keeping a carpet anemone once... this guy is damn sticky. As it grew it came in contact with my xenias that they all dropped off over one month... Now botak liao.

I dun think MH is required for keeping anemones, though my personal preference will still be T5s... Anyway, they'll move into caves if the lighting is too strong or climb up/change colour when lighting is insufficient.

My previous BTAs like to stay together (even when I purposely separate them by hand), so i don't think they'll sting each other.

Have you seen Sealife's anemone tank (the 2ft one I think). IMO i think they did a great job in maintaining so many anemones in a single tank. The puzzling part is that the anemone seems to be rooted at the same spot most of the time. Cool!

    :peace:

  5. Hmmm... FOWLR... I reckon you do not need strong lighting requirements.

IMO lighting in FOWLR setup is more for the aquarist (rather than the LS). Good lightings make the fishes and tank look better too.

I guess the 2ft 20watt Dymax shld fit your bill. Relatively cheap, less heat generated than FL or PL. Whether heat gained is substantial or not also depends on how well circulated the air is on the position you place your tank, besides the choice of lightings...

And in case you change your mind in future to include corals then just DIY the Dymax to run HO AquaZ tubes lor...

    :peace:

  6. I don't know if your canister water flow goes top down or bottom up, but whichever the case is, the first layer the water should come in contact with should be the mechanical filter....

Water in -> Sponge -> Carbon, Chemipure etc -> Rowaphos -> BioHome, BioBalls etc -> Water out

    Something like that....

  7. Hi all,

My juv koran have been with me for almost a year... I can observe that its stripes patterns had changed and its belly colour turned kinda yellowish... the back of the koran showing signs of "yellowishness"...

This condition kinda lasted for 6-8 weeks liao... but koran still haven't shed colour.

Just like to find out if any fellow reefer had kept a koran from juv to adulthood and how long did it take to shed its juv colours?

  8. Hi derk,

I think you meant the damsels and clowns are sweeping the sand off the sandbed with their "tails", right?

Well I'd seen such behavior in my tank too... my tomato clown behaving like goby at times, throwing chucks of sands and rocks around the tank, out of its "territory".... like doing housekeeping... :D

your thread sparked my curiousity too.. interesting... :yeah:

  9. Hi 35cents,

    That what I saw too... 14watts 2ft T5s.

As I had gotten my 2ft T5 for quite some time back, mine's a 20watt.

I was thinking recently to DIY it to use Aquaz 24watt tubes. Still considering my options, cos DIY for an increase in 4 watts per tube doesn't sound attractive enough...

  10. right on... saw it... when living room is in pitch darkness... greenish... Thanks everybody for the response.

I tot there'll be some LED or something to indicate operating status.

Anyway, just to share, water cleared up (dunno is it mental or not) after UV's been in operation for a few days liao...
