  1. for all the answers. Guess I have to take precautions. My trap is in the tank right now. The little rascal six line went into hiding upon seeing the trap. I am not going to trap him yet but just want to get him to go into the trap during feeding time. If he harasses my fire goby, I am going to activate the trap and put him in the sump
  2. Dear bro and sis I have a six line warsse in my 3 footer. I am going to introduce a puprle fire goby soon. Will the six line wrasee whack the fire goby. If it harasses my fire goby, I have to start setting my trap now.
  3. hi alex, thanks for the tank. Kindly reserve it for me. Already SMS'ed and Pm'ed you. Thanks.
  4. Any bros got the above to sell ? need for QT.
  5. Hi all, There has been a lot going on about quarantine and quarantine tanks. To me it is always a risk when you introduce new LS into an establishd tank of healty fishes. Basically you have two choices, the 100% foolproof one is to set up a full fledge quarantine tank and mimic the envioroment that the fish is used to. In the case of the golden pygmy, you can put a few pieces of LR into the QT so that the fish can hide and eventually take aquarium food. The other calculated option is to buy LS from good LFS and pay a little more. This option although not foolproof will at least minimize the risk of infection in your display tank. Asking the LFS to keep your fish for a few weeks is a good idea but a lot of LFS will not want to take the responsibility. I offered to pay for full for a fish at a LFS but he did not want to take the fish under his care for 3 weeks. Another method I adopt is not to "cheong" for fish. When I see a fish I like, I will make another trip to the LFS a few days later to see how the fish is doing. If the fish is sold, so be it, bad luck, but I beleive very soon I will see another fish I like. There are cheap fishes to be found everywhere and some LFS even sell them straight in the plastic bag. I will avoid these "plastic bag" purchases at all cost. For cheap fishes, you can take a risk if you have a QT. I beleive the cheap fish and more expensive fish is from the same source, mostly cynide caught but it depends on how the LFS condition the fish to eat. When a fish is eating, he can demand a higher price. The savings between a cheap fish and a conditoned fish is as much as $ 9 for a black poma angel. For me I will go for the cheaper fish if I have a QT but definately buy the more expensive conditioned fish if I have no QT. For tangs, there are no exception, quarantine is a must. A %^&WTby powder blue tang infected all my fishes and caused a total wipe out several years back. Just my two cents.
  6. Hi Bros, Bought a flame angel recently, feeding well. I discovered today got one white spot on the forehead. Fish still feeding and lively but I am a bit worried Flame shares the tank with spanish hogfish, six line wrasse and maroon clown.
  7. Normally they will not shut down from 9am to 5pm. What it really means is that power will be shut down anytime in between the hours of 9am to 5pm. As usual when you call your branch office, no one can confirm the duration of the outage. I stay in the Bukit Merah area and have expereinced power shut downs for less than an hour when they said the shutdown is from 9am to 5pm. But your scenerio may not be the same as mine and it is better for you to prepare for the worst. The best way is to rent a portable power generator from the shops along Jalan Besar, I rented one many years ago for 20$ a day.
  8. for all the answers and encouragement. The specimen I saw in the LFS is a juvenile black poma and is eating. I am afraid it is prone to white spot and infect my other fishes in the tank. I have a six line wrasse, splitlevel hogfish and maroon clown and I don't want to take the risk and put in a fish without quarantine. Very difficult decision to make leh. Maybe pay for the fish and ask the LFS to quarantine for me for 3 weeks
  9. Hi Bros, I saw this fish today, very nice, is it easy to keep and will it kena white spot easily. I am asking because I have no QT yet but very tempting.
  10. Hi Bros, Going to clean my sand bed soon. Got one of those telescopic gravel cleaner. Used it once but it tend to suck up the grade 0 sand that i use for the dsb. got any better ideas to clean the sand bed ?
  11. Yo Bros, My tank temp went up to 30.9 C today. I am not keeping anything fanciful just a FOWLR. Any detremental effects on the inhabitants ? I noticed more activity in the tank and the fishes are going into thier respective place to sleep later PS: I am considering getting a chiller when funds allow.
  12. Hi Bros, One stupid question, I am using a air pump with air diffuser to mix salt, the bubbles seem to be very weak, is this sufficient to dissolve the salt, or is a power head better?
  13. Do you have any tank stand for sale. I need a stand for my 30"X15" tank :lol Thanks
  14. Anyone got Wrought Iron Stand for 15"X30" tank to sell or giveaway? Need it for Quarantine tank. Bigger also can. Thanks.
  15. Hi Seamonkey, Take heart, you are not the only one with a total wipe out. Me too, many years ago when I was keeping marines, I suffered the same fate too. I added a powder blue tang to my tank as this fish should be added last in any collection. Being a itch magnet, the @&$* fish was infected with velvet, a disease much potent than itch. In no time all my other fishes were infected, one by one went up the lorry. In those day, there is this product call waterlife Myxazin, a LR and reef safe remedy for itch, being a 5 footer, I had to dose a LOT of Myxazin. As expected, reef safe medication will not work for itch or velvet and the only treatment for itch and velvet is cheleated copper. Many years later, I am starting this wonderful hobby again and is now the proud owner of a 3 footer. I have stocked the tank with mainly easy to keep wrase and clownfishes over a period of 3 months. Until my QT is up, I will refrain from buying the "exotics" like tangs and angel. I have already chanced when I did not quarantine the 2 wrasses and clownfish that I have now. Most LFS in Singapore will sell you life stock with no questioned asked, with the exception of a few. The atitude of the LFS has not changed over the years, please come back for more if your fish die. A very well known LFS recommended me a Mandarin knowing very well that I have a recenly matured FOWLR. I have also come across a few good ones and was turned away twice by a LFS when I told them my tank was less than a month old. These are the LFS that I truely respect and support. The good ones are few and far in between or they have gone out of business. From this forum, I can see a lot of reefers have reach world standards but sadly the atitude of the LFS have a lot of catching up to do. It's a bit longish but I have said my piece.
  16. I use the drip method for any creatures I introduce in my tank. First a 30 minutes float in the tank water to equalize temperature. Then fish and water is poured into a pail. A lenght of airline with a few knots to control the flow of the siphon from the display tank to the pail. the flow of the siphon is adjusted to a trickle, drop by drop the pail is filled with tank water, how long it takes normally depends on the flow of the drops and the volume of water you have from the LFS, I estimate the flow such that it takes about and hour to fill up the pail with 200% of the original water from the LFS I am sure a lot of fishes can tahan a drastic change in salinity, but I try to provide the least changes in terms of temp, salinity and PH amongst others when I try to acclaimatise the fish to prevent stress. Stressed fish = sick fish. Of course there are LFS that just simply throws newly arrived fish into thier tanks without acclamatising and the fishes are still ok but I am not willing to take any chances. In keeping marine fishes Kiasuism pays.
  17. thanks all for the advice. My clown fish, after almost not eating for 10days have finally shown some interest in food. I feed him prawn meat and he likes it. but he is still avoiding pallets brine and mysis shrimps.
  18. yeah clown fish hamtan any food. That is what worries me. this guy shows no interest in food except for the first feeding in the morning wherein he will take some frozen brine shrimp and spit it out.
  19. The maroon clown that I bought 4 days ago is not feeding. It only takes in brine shrimps and spits it out during the first feeding of the day. The fish seems healthy and no signs of desease. I have tried mysis and brine shrimps so far, but they guy just refuse to swallow the food. Otherwise fish seems happy and swimming around.
  20. I am not sure if 95% of the fishes sold in LFS is cynide caught or not. What I am quite certain is cynide is used in a big majority of the LS sold in Singapore. I dare say at least more than half. Just imagine trying to capture a small wrasse in the reef. Firstly the wrasee will try to hide amongst the rocks, which is almost impossible for the diver to use a net. The solution, squirt cynide into the hole where the wrasse is hiding. I have questioned LFS many times about cynide and some of them just smilled and some outright tell you that it is cynide caught. About fishes dying in tank. I think it depends on the amount of cynide the fish is exposed to. It also depends on the specie. Some species are able to handle more cynide than others. I have fishes that are a few months old and I also have fishes that die on me overnight. Many years ago I have kept a common clown for 5 years which I am sure is cynide caught. In those days nobody cares about the reef and they just use cynide for everything including live seafood.
  21. Want to keep this fish in my FPWLR. Name is Chaetodontoplus melanosoma black poma amgel. Saw small ones in Se@ L!%E last week but did not buy. Is this fish easy to keep ? I can be considered a intermediate reefer having kept marines in the past.
  22. Hi Bros, Could you please tell me if the reading is <.25 or.25 ammonia. The test sample is milky white but there is no tinge of yellowness.
  23. Anyone know the distrubutor in Singapore ? hv some problem with my test kit
