  1. on occasion, i find it better to just put them in the main tank regardless of whelther they are feeding prepared food or not.... :ooh: as long as they seems to be healthy and grow fatter (by pecking on algae) during the QT.....

For example, my Tomini to date has never taken any prepared food but still going strong by the days (close to 5 months in main tank liao)....if i let it stayed in QT waiting for it to feed, it might have died laio.....

Similarly, i had a powder black that never feeds on prepare food during the QT period (but peck alot of the algae in the main tank)......but after 2-3months in main tank, it started taking to pellets....

Finally had a kole eye that never feeds when i QT, but when i added a clown fish, it started to take pellets....

dynamics of fishes are sometimes very werid...you should practice good suggestion recommended on the net - but sometime have to exerise a bit of initalitve and thinking...;)

It is always hard to decide, I ever introduce two juvunile black poma into my main tank w/o QT and they got itch after one week and infected my flame as well. Eventually all 3 went up the lorry.

  2. As above.

Need some ML special feed to fatten my lemonpeel angel conz the fella seems to be thinning down even it's eating. Hope can collect tonight after work.

If you can spare me some, please let me know. I stay in Sembawang, hope can get some to try from reefers in Woodlands, Sembawang, Admiralty or Yishun. Buona Vista also can.

can give you some. I stay in the south PM me if you need it.

    :P

  3. yos,

Started this thread for the purpose of discussing the effects

(either proven or claimed) of supplementing VitC (aka Ascorbic acid)

    to your system.

Just for ur info. It is claimed (proven?) that Vit C will improve the immune

system of ur fishes. It will also helps in the healing process in the case

of fighting against disease and recovering from wounds.

    cheers

A few years ago, albert thiel advocated the use of vitamin C for fishes. Since it is acidic one will have to careful as it will lower PH. I have not tried it myself but I guess there is better stuff out there like beta glucan which is worth trying

  4. Thanks friend.

It is indeed a pity to give up but the traveling is really a killer. Next week in Jakarta and Perth week after and Shanghai follows. I can only enjoy it over the weekend when back. Most works are current maintained by my wife and I don't see her enjoying it as much as I do. That why must do it once and for all.

Let me know the skimmer too, Jem. Thanks

    Hi Loo,

You are not the only one. I was keeping a 5 foot FOWLR and was like you travelling a lot. No time to enjoy my tank even in the weekends. After 20 years of this shit travelling, I have decided to give my travelling job for a lesser paying job that does not require travelling. I just started a 3 foot fowlr again and has been enjoying it ever since

  6. Hi bro. please do not feel dishearted due to loss of fishes as I have such dreadful experiences myself just weeks ago :( I have discovered that fish loss due to excessive white spots on the it's body is due to very poor water quality <_< Although my parameters does not show any harmful readings and changing of water does not help either, I have result it by replacing activated carbon weekly instead of monthly :D

I understand doing it this way may not solve the core problem but it really helps in maintaining water quality and till now I am still doing it as soon once D.O.C are completely removed, I will resume the standard periodic of changing activated carbon on monthly basis :heh:

I am not really an expert in marine reef keeping but at least my current practice have shown great water quality improvement :D I will also recommend you to seek reefers like weileong or blueheaven for help as I regard them as pioneers in this hobby keeping ;)

    cheers

Bro Thanks for the comforting words and advice, I will try to start a air driven protien skimmer in my QT tank to see if I there is further improvement.

Thank to all who replied.:bow::bow::bow::bow:

  7. my experience with timid fishes:

I use a tank covered on all 4 sides, only view is from the front. My fish quarantine tank have some rocks, but quite a few PVC fittings large enough for the fish to hide. I have a high efficiency low wattage bulb over the tank 24hr to provide subtle lighting. Tank temp is maintained at 30 degress, but with overskimming to provide enough aeration.

Seems that even with good water quality, sometimes, the environment is still too stressful for the fish to settle down. I used some of the methodology for discus keeping here, and it works for me, at least most of the times.

    For your consideration.

    :)

Thanks for the reply. Do you use copper to treat your centropyge as well. In some websites they say that centropyge do not tolerate copper well

    Thanks

  8. Hi Bros,

Today my 3rd Centropyge died in QT.

Fish 1, Goldie angel lasted for 1 week and died, not eating and always hiding. no Ich observed

Fish 2, Potter angel, eating algae on the glass of the QT tank but keeps hiding on the third day and went up lorry on the 5th day. No Ich observed

Fish 3, bi-color angel, eating cyclopeeze until yesterday, breathing very hard this morning before I go to work. Probably will go up lorry when I reach home after work. Observed light infestation of Ich yesterday morning and this morning, probably because of the dilution of the copper due to water changes I made.

Fish 1 and 2 was quaratined user Cupramine per intructions. Fish 3, the bicolor was qurantined using half dose per seachem instructions.

    Water quality:

    Ammonia 0

    No2 0

    SG 1.021

    Tank volume 51 litres.

bros Please help, I am about to give up on dwarf angels.

    :thanks:

  9. Hi Bros,

My potter died on me this morning after one week in my OT tank  although not feeding in mid water, he has been grazing on the algae in my QT tank and seems healthy.

No signs of ich, sunken stomach and pinched back when he went up the lorry. Any bro here with experience with this fish. Any sucees in keeping one in a fowlr.

    :thanks:

  10. That is fantastic. Thanks. I would love to do all my shopping in Singapore. I cant seem to find the address on the sponsers to this forum. I am only in Singapore for one day. I need to do all my homework before I come.

Where and how do I find the cheapest shops to do my shopping. I will probably only have time to go to a few shops.

Does Singapore have tung choi street, like HK

    http://www.chelonia.org/Articles/China/hongkongpets6.htm

    Thanks

There is no tung choi kai in singapore. The LFS sre scattered all over the island, the closest you can find is Serangoon north but it is no where near tung choi kai in terms of vast variety and range. Generally prices in Singapore for American and European products are much cheaper. If you are looking for products made in Asia, much cheaper to get in HK.

  11. Hi All,

Bot a golden angel 6 days ago, now in 42 liters copper QT but the guy shows no interest in brine shrimps.

Always hiding in the PVC pipe I put in the tank and is very shy. How long does it takes for a goldie to start feeding. Tried cyclopeeze but also show no interest.

Is it on it's way up the lorry ? Advise please.

  12. Hey pommie,

It's worth the travelling. It is better to have happy fishes in your tank than dead fishes.

Definately not 50 % more something like 20 to 25 but his fishes are definately worth it.

If his fish cannot survive, very likely there is somthing wrong with your tank :)

  13. yes six liners are cleaners. My six line cleans my flame angel occasionally. Just pecking on my flame if he feels like it.

My flame keeps still when he is near the six line but I am puzzled as to why the flame knows that the six liner is a cleaner because they don't come from the same geographical area and does not exist together in the wild.

  14. I can testify that Marine Life's LS is of very good quality. I got 3 fishes from them and they are all happily swimming in my tank.

I am no way related to Marine Life, just a happy customer with henry's service and his willingness to share his knowledge and advice.

  15. I have a purple firefish which I have kept for already 1.5 months. He is quite hardy and eats everthing I throw into the tank.

This fish is purchased from Henry of Marine Life and I strongly beleive the way the fish is captured plays a very important part. Henry told me his fish are MAC certified and I have every reason to beleive him.

  16. Hi All,

After feeding the angel on meaty food for one week, he now shows little interest in pellet and other foods. He used to peck on algae on the glass and rocks but now don't seem to bother.

I tried too wean him back to pallets but he just only take 2 or 3 ocean nutrition pellets and swims off

Help, he is losing weight unless I feed him with brine shrimp or mysis shrimp.

    :thanks:

  17. To keep two clown fish in a 2 footer u need only undergravel filters. undergravel plates are really cheap. Use reverse flow if possible and a powerhead to drive the undergravel instead of air stones.

Technology only plays a part but the main ingrediant in marine fishkeeping is patience. I have kept marine fishes using undergravel filters in the past, no problem at all.

Have fun and enjoy this wonderful hobby. Keeping FO system need not be expensive.

  18. Hi,

Bought a Flame Angel last Saturday.

    It's not been eating much.

Tried live brine shrimp, fish eggs, flakes, pellets. It does not seem to have a liking for all these food.

Thought it prefers "vegetables", so placed a piece of vegetable (already partially cooked by placing in boiling water) in the tank, anchoring the vege to a rock, also did not eat it.

Can anyone advise how to coax the Angel to eat?

Any particular brand of food that it would like?

    Thanks.

    Hi Bro,

Try some raw prawn meat and perhaps a opened "tua tow" with shell intact, fish just love the smell of fresh seafood and should be attracted to it.

Remember to remove any uneaten seafood immediately as it tends to foul water very quickly.

Good luck and give your fish some time. I am sure it will eat if it is clean caught.

BTW a few spots on the fish is OK and I would keep an eye on it to make sure it does not develop more spots. When I first introduce my flame, it had a couple of spots but disappeared after a few days.
