  1. Hi Forum,

I am coming back to this facinating hobby after a long lay off and have some very old skimmers, like the Sanders WT 350 and the Azoo super tri skimmer.

I am intending to set up a 3 X 2 X 1.5 fowlr with live rock and intend to use the sanders wt 350 as the sole means of water purification, if that is not sufficeint, I will throw in the Azoo as well. My system also have a sump measuring 3 X 2 X 1 and all the skimmers will reside in the sump.

Eventually when the tank matures, it will be stocked with at most 4 to 5 small fishes and some soft corals.

Any comments as to weather the skimming is sufficient, or do I really need a high tech present day skimmer to do the job?

I stay in the south and is the tap water there good enuf for such a tank or do I have to invest in a RO/DI unit for my salt mix ?

Thanks for reading this longish post.

    Regards,

    Blackpuma

  3. Hi all,

I followed the instructions given by this thread and diy'ed the overflow. Flow rate is fantastic but I am left wih one problem, the siphon will not re-start when power resumes after a power failure to the return pump in the sump

The test is done with both the cap on and off. Could it be the difference in heght between the input and output of the overflow is too much.

Also, I copied the design and I hope no one is offended.

Any help with the siphon re-start problem is much appreciated

    Thanks

  5. Hi All,

I need to drill a 25mm hole on a dome shaped PVC strainer. Can anyone give advice on what tool to use for drilling such a big hole.

The maximum size I can find in my drill set is about 10mm

    Thanks for the help. :pinch:

  6. Hi All,

    This is my madien post.

Have a old 3 feet tank. Drilled the tank to take a 20mm PVC pipe as overflow. There is no box surrounding this overflow pipe and the pipe is just sticking out on the left hand side of the tank.

When I pump the water from my sump, the overflow is very noisy, how to silence it. ? I have tried stcking a PVC hose in to the overflow pipe as suggested by others but with no improvement.

Please help and thanks in advance.
