  1. oh yeah... before i've forgotten abt it... as for the chiller probe... i inserted it into a tube, added freshwater into the tube(as salwater will corrode the metal part). SEAL IT SHUT.
  2. sump portion. Return pump - MD55 Skimmer - MD55
  3. chiller specs... 1/2hp @ 405w Able to drop water temperature @ 1C per hour for a 550L(incl sump) of water. Able to have up to 4C temp diff before compressor kick in. But set it at 25-28. VERY HOT. Have to add 2 ventilation fan to suck the hot air.
  4. inner portion of the small cabinet...
  5. hehehe... advertising ah ? well... nah... more like information sharing...
  6. picture attached here is related to the small wooden cabinet...
  7. more pics of this weird looking cabinet.
  8. coming back to the "small" cabinet attached... sneak peak.
  9. do you know what is the smaller cabinet on the right side is for ??
  10. a good friend helping out with the installation.
  11. 3weeks passed and my new tank was delivered on Saturday. I had it customised, the bottom cabinet is increase by another 7-8inches or so(to accomodate the skimmer. And the cover has been increased to 12inches. In total, it's abt 6ft tall. Very troublesome when i need to clean up the tank. that's my first observation.
  12. Hi Guys, I'm very new to this hobby. so bear with me if i may accidently make blunders/stupid remarks... My current tank is a 4x1.5x1.5ft tank. I guess I've ran out of space for my fishes and corals. This first tank wasn't meant as marine setup. I didn't do much research when i bought it. But alas, I hope i've done enough for me to get it corrected this round. Took abt a month of persistent persuasion to convince the finance minister at home to get a 2nd tank. a mini intro of my current tank :
  13. had a power outage for 6hrs 2 weeks ago. had a shock of my life as my wife told me of the power outage 6hrs later. didn't have mood to work. she's not at home to confirm of the damaged. thank God, everything was still there when the power kicked back. The next day, bought myself a APC UPS - 500vA type. Costs abt 70. well... only hook up the air-pumps(2x3w) to the unit. tested it for around 6 hrs. pump still pumpipng A AC/DC operated pump costs around 70 as well... i think better to get a UPS.
  14. hi guys, Need some pointers here... are the t5 and PL the same thing ? Is PL ok for corals ? say 150w + - regards, Eric
  15. fuel, it's open air. when the flexi tube was restricted. the water flow was low, md55 had to work harder because of the pressure buildup from the restricted flow. surprisingly, that causes the heat from the pump to be transfered into the water. this shouldn't have happened right ? since the md55 have a fan to blow the hot air. hmm... so, not sure if it's correct to conclude that external pumps does dissipate heat into the tank. How much when you compare to internal/insump pump? i do not know... whether does the heat exchange is negligeable or not, i do not know...
  16. something to ponder here... understand that having an external pump would mean that 1c or 2c lower in water temperature because the POWEr/WATT do not get transfered into the water. That's what i thought... a couple of months ago, i was doing some testrun on my md-55. it's was left to run for 24hrs. the next day, i've noticed that the water flow of the flex tube was being restricted(overbent). the MD-55 was warm, kinda like 35-36c(maybe more) and to my surprise, my water temperature was registering at 34c!!!! does this mean that eventhough your pump is an outsump unit, the heat exchange in the pump itself can get dissipated into the water? my new tank is coming this week end. I'll have 2 MD-55 running on it. 1 for the skimmer and the other for the return pump. Now, I'm getting a lil bit worried. Think, may need to get a better chiller.
  17. oh well.. just got myself a used mini UPS. back in msia, i have a 70G tank. was told by my wife that she had just found out there was an outage at our place and it lasted 6hrs. Thank God, when she went back, the livestocks were still ok. everything is in good condition. phew. for a moment, i thought tank would have crashed.
  18. guys, how long do you reckon my lifestock can last without air in a 70G tank ? I have abt 15 damsels and 1 tang 5 doctor shirmp 1 banded shrimp a couple of LPS corals (8 of them) 3 Anemonies Eric.
  19. guys, was wondering if any of you happen to know if md-55 has thermal/fault protection circuit on board ? just incase the pump became over-heated due to loss of water pressure, will it shutdown ?
