  1. Bro, I think this post shd not b posted in the nano reef here n shd post in general reefing or tank setup.. Anyway good luck

You are right. Sorry. But I have a nano reef tank and want a super small thermometer with alarm and a small footprint. There are bigger devices for bigger tanks. I was hoping the nano tank reefers know of such a device for nano tanks. Missed that point out.

Here are the photos first. It is morning and the corals are already awake.

The Tunze 6040 has this ability to make the waves of the sea. If you dive, you will be familiar with the pattern. It is just not a strong blast of water flow. It causes the water level to go up and down. Think of it like a wavebox and wavemaker combined. You need to adjust the frequency and amplitude of the wave pattern. And tunze 6040 has this auto wave feature but you still have to manually tune it. I have like 6 wavemakers all these years and this is the most amazing product by far. I suppose the gryre (wrong spell) wave thingy can do that as well. Please google and see the video of tunze 6040 in action.

  3. I have the IM 10g tank. Really hunting for a simple thermometer with alarm. I have used the Seneye but it got a tad troublesome. It needs to connect to a PC and the Seneye wireless server is another additional piece of hardware I don't wish to invest. Plus you need to wet the sensor pad 24 hours or more before use. The Apex controller (perfect for fish geek) is an overkill, tempting as it is. I thought of using a PI computer and built a probe lol. And learn some coding again but if there is a product out there, will be great. Any recommendation thanks bros!

  4. IM tank is great. I got it from FNM too. I had a fluval canister so it is used as an extension of the IOS. Not necessary of course but it is there. Caddy compartment. Filter sponge provided by IM. Poly filter membrane. (Google). Chemi blue. Canister: AGplus nanobeads (my own stuff), lots of filter pads to grow good bacteria, activated carbon, biological stones to grow bacteria). IOS- return pump tunze for arctica chiller. Modified a UV bulb. Tunze smallest skimmer - trust me it fits the middle compartment amazingly. Jebao-Ak light. What works so far - chemiblue, poly filter, skimmer. Tunze nano wave maker. I think my accessories are a bit overkill for a small tank but it is ok. Here is my problem. After the sys matures, nothing much to do lol!!! No upgrading to a larger tank is not an option. I have the Seneye but too much trouble. Water change 10% a week. Magnesium and some reef additive. All I need is a thermometer with an alarm. Can't find it in the market.

  5. Thks bro..
I had ordered my tank..6mm 3 side crystal glass with clear silicon..wanted a more seamless look n hope to achieve that..
As for the ios compartment, still unknown to me yet..my tank maker AA will plan for me..
Next thinking is what wavemaker to use..haha..looking at tunze nanostream 6040 or jebao rw4?

I have both of them and currently using 6040. Both are just fine wavemakers but the tunze has more control. The corals somehow prefer the wave patterns of the tunze and extend themselves more. I think it can mimic the reef flow better. The downside is that the tunze is slightly larger but your tank size should not be an issue. My tank is the IM 10g size. All the best!

  6. Dear Reefers

One of the most "painful" experience in saltwater fish keeping is the cycling period. You bought the tank and you have to cycle for 4 weeks and wait for the ammonia to come down. I have tested several instant cycling products and even if it works, you put a single hardy fish or max two which is no different from fish cycling which is deemed cruel. I know the standard mantra.. this is about patience and it is good for the tank... etc etc.

But with ALL THE SCIENCE on this planet why cant we have instant gratification. So hear this crazy idea out. Maybe many have tried it and succeeded. If you have a canister filter that has been used for months with all the required bacteria inside, why cant you rent it out for instant recycling? If I run a fish store and I have 5 canisters that are constantly running and the customer approach me wishing to start a tank, I can rent the canister to him and there should be enough bacteria to run the tank immediately. And he uses live rocks and new sand or better still, sell him sand with bacteria. Is that possible? I know there are instances when you take the filter medium of matured tank and place it in yours to accelerate the bacteria build up but WHY NOT go for the whole canister? And the canister is transportable.

I am sure there are some obvious flaws in the process but as a thought experiment, I think it is workable. Think about it. Why wait 4 weeks lol :-)

WARNING: For new reefers, PLEASE DO NOT TRY THE ABOVE METHOD. The above is just speculation and I am hoping the senior reefers here can give this a thought.

  8. Ops I miss that. Thanks sir! Then it bags the question what is the 0-10v for? If it can't be controlled? Lol. The box says Wifi led matrix lights (something like that), so the wifi bit sounds imaginary.

In any case there is a French video on YouTube of an aquarist using iPhone to control the AK-60 lights. So it can be done. The problem is the video is in French. So it is as good as no data.

The simplest way is to get Kessil but being a VC, I have a twisted respect for companies able to reverse engineer a product and deliver it at a much lower price point and that itself spurs the incumbents to up their game. Just my 2 cents. And thanks again!!!

  9. Dear Reefers

I got a LED light (Jebao Matrix AK-60) with the universal 0-10v input. It is NOT a kessil light. But can we use the Kessil controller or other controllers to control the light output? How "universal" or "compatible" is the 0-10v input? Apologies if this is a known fact but I could not find the info online and therefore seek help from the reefer bros and sis here. Thank you.

I did not remove the glass separator in the tank too much work. All I did is flip the motor unit 180 degree (9001 can do that). Remove the magnet for attaching to the glass. I trim off the black plastic magnet holder. And it fits perfectly. If you don't wish to trim off I think it is fine too.

So apart from the IM desktop ghost skimmer, the Baoyu small cylindrical skimmer, you now can add tunze 9001 skimmer.

  11. One of the challenges of the Novu Fusion 10 g tank is there are very few skimmers that can fit into the IOS (at the back). I was using this china made (nothing wrong with china made) spindle wheel skimmer that just barely fit but after months it is just a bubbling machine. And the ideal skimmer is the Tunze 9001 but if you look at the specs, it is just too large and if you check online, there are posts on modifying the IOS by cutting the glass divider and that's too much work!

Here is the good news. By some accidental luck, the Tunze 9001 actually fits the second chamber perfectly. The glass ledge is just nice to hang the skimmer after you removed the magnet holder.
