  1. tks. been to the site. no eheim filters. gotta go down to the shop i suppose. btw, it seems that a canister filter works the same way as a hang-on filter. i guess a canister filter is more 'powerful' in cleaning the water that's all? otherwise i dun think there's a diff. ya? i was reading up and it seems i can't spot the diff. bet. a hang-on and canister filter. would be great if someone can point out the differences that make canister filters such a gd recommendation.
  2. pardon my ignorance, but is petmart available in singapore? anyway i surfed the site and i can't seem to find any brand eheim. found it at www.eheim.com though.
  3. would u be able to advise on the price for a eheim canister? where can i purchase them in singapore at a gd price?
  4. what kinda filter do u use for ur 1 ft shrimp tank? any protein skimmer?
  5. yup, i dun intend to go for sump. i want the tank really small and neat. cannister filter sounds great, but how does it fit exactly onto my tank? i've only had experiences with hang-on filter, and in fact, i tot of a hang-on type filter and protein skimmer so that the whole tank will look real neat! (i hate bits and pieces, nitty gritties all over)
  6. hmm.. good info. tks. how much are u letting the skimmer go for?
  7. cool replies guys! tks for the info! but what exactly is the function of a skimmer? anyone has a pic on a prizm skimmer? i dun intend to keep light demanding corals for now. just need a little beauty in my room to relax. and the fishes i wanna keep are all small fishes like damsel sizes, nothing too big. tks for the note on substrate. saved me a bundle already. my upmost concern would be the filter. it has to be gd at keeping my water parameters right. if jebo is not a gd idea, what kinda filter would u guys recommend?
  8. i plan to get a 1.5 ft to 2 ft tank for my room with a jebo brand hang-on filter w/ skimmer. as for lights, will be using the usual lights, nothing specific. substrate, perhaps get a good quality one from aquastar or so. just add a few LR and LS (not more than 2" fishes, max qty 8) when water is cycled. That's abt it. Nothing too heavy. Will the jebo brand filer w/skimmer be able to handle this load? appreciate the advice.
  9. ok, so what would u suggest i do? i can't let my water cycle now cause i won't have a place to put my LR. However, if nitrite and nitrate were present, how come my fishes seem healthy? (a boxfish and a spotted mandarin)
  10. well, its a few corals on LR. I can't identify them. I'll post a picture up here shortly for u to identify. But it seems to have algae, mushrooms and 2 other types. I'm not sure.
  11. quite a few months already, but i just did a complete water change 2 weeks ago.
  12. i never bother to cycle my tank before, and the indicator never seem to show a spike in ammonia, but today there was a spike. dunno why, but over the weekend, i understand that power supply was cut and hence my pump was not working till this morning.
  13. i had a yellowtail damsel with a velvet damsel and a tang. the yellowtail seems alright and meek. its the velvet that chases the yellowtail all round.
  14. i totally agree! i bought an orange sponge, and a few days later it turned my water in my 1 ft tank murky brown! i suspect that the sponge was dying off, probably exposed to air.
  15. i own a 1 ft tank in my office, hang on filter. everytime i buy a coral or sponge and place it in my aquarium, after a while it starts to turn my water murky brown. why is that so? i also noticed that the mustrooms etc. do not open up. they are wrinkled and closed. what could be the cause? i tot of buying a pack of those active carbon to add into my filter. would that help to keep the water clear and adjust the water parameters? (i saw this brand 'chemipure', sounds good) someone pls advise me. its urgent and im totally stuck with my tank.
  16. i personally keep a 1 ft tank in my office. i use the hang on filter. a few bits of live rocks and abt 3 fishes. water parameters tend to fluctuate. for instance today, my ammonia indicator indicated i needed a water change. I changed the water twice (25%) each time and yet the indicator still indicates ammonia in the water. sigh, dunno what went wrong. im actually of bringing the tank back home to fit in my room 2.
