  1. Whoa so many fungia...cool! Nice new one too, has an interesting colouration.
  2. Zero Oxygen >> Good innnovative idea dude, but not for me. But it s a cheap althenative though. ZeRoC00l >> If I put SPS at the topmost areas with 150W n actnic support would I get away with coloured SPS? Hehee. Yeah, also thanks for the info on the chiller from Oct**Bay. sps_dude >> Thanks for your input bro. Do you know the wattage of the actnic bulbs? Would check it out maybe this weekend with Oct**Bay. Btw what you mean by this....Want what? Colourful SPS huh? Feel free to answer any question posted to the individuals dear reefers. Hope we can share more as it would also serve for future reference to reefers with 2ft tanks with similar dimensions.
  3. Whoa cool CookieMunster. Was lokoing at your 150W DI that day and was impressed. Now you came out with this. Clap clap! Real good choice for lighting!
  4. kschew>> I agree with that. I think you should get the fans and mount them properly then see how the water evaporation rate is going. Think then you can go for a top-off. That should solve your watrer temp. problems I hope. I am going to try this method with my 2footer too. Let you know how it goes next time. Just to let you know, my 2.5ft military tank never goes over 28.2C this is without tank fans or chiller. Just the ceiling fan going in the day. Whew, Alan interesting stuff there. What's the brand of the fan you're using, is it AC or DC? Thanks... Looks like you're getting high end stuff huh? Yu[, but agreed. It is good to get something of the top-line and later dun upgrade anymore equipment. Just let the tank mature and grow for years to come...
  5. Anaerobic = No oxygen. For example like what chipson1 said about anaerobic area. It is an area void of oxygen so as to allow anaerobic bacteria to grow and get rid of your nitrates. Hehe. Hope it helps.
  6. Thanks guys for the replies and comments! I appreciate it! ZeRoC00l >> Whoa 250W ah? Not too much? Me not going for SPS full tank and I am afraid my LPS can't take so much light. I was thinking of the Oct**** B*y 150W MH/PL, very attractive. DeepBlue >> Yup, I think the fluctuation in water parameter would be too much for SPS and perhaps other corals as well. Think I must use FuEl >> Was thinking of T5s but they dun have the shimmering effect leh. Haha! I just love that, reminds me about the sea and its natural environment. Also T5 to replace them not cost effective. Its like 6-8 tubes to change in 9 months or so. $$$ Anyone heard of the "drop in coil chiller with titanium coil"? Heard that it is a bigger version of ice probe and can cool bigger tanks. Can anyone enlighten me on this one.
  7. Thanks for sharing FuEL, interesting articles there...
  8. Yo dude, I am going to setup a new tank with the exact dimensions as yours. Considered nano right hehe . Would ask you for ideas hehe... Your temp. 27.7? Not bad huh. Using PL thats why. Btw the IBox you use is the 800 model smaller one huh? Whoa your return pump power sia. IBox can handle? Thanks...
  9. DSB == Deep Sand Bed It consist of a layer or couple layers of sand of different grain size. About 4-6" in depth and would thus create an anaerobic layer at the bottom inch or two (depends on your DSB depth) to harbour bacteria that would convert nitrates to nitrogen gas. Hope that helps. Sump design vary from setup to setup. It depends on what your purpose is for the sump. But what you stated is briefly what most people do. But your skimmer should be placed in the first compartment where the water enters first to suck in all the yummy stuff to skim hehe!
  10. Whoa interesting courtship dance photos, tuan! So did they spawn?
  11. I am thinking of setting up a SPS/LPS tank with a dimension of 24"X12"X18". SPS would be on the higher regions of the tank and LPS lower. Yar, a little small, but I am inspired by some nano and also danano's totm I have some doubts in my head to clarify and hope that you guys can enlighten me! 1. When it comes to the wattage/gallon lighting rule, is the water in the sump which adds up to the entire volume, accounted for? 2. I am think of going for 70W from viclite.com. There have been suggestions by one or to reefers I converse with that recommended 150W. Thanks! I love you guys!
  12. Cool work on your new overflow dude! Clap clap!
  13. Wow, not bad huh, Alan! Where's the new location of my fans that enable your chiller to not kick in for one week? Can give more info of fan position? Maybe a pic would help. Thanks! kschew, I think you can follow what Alan is doing lor if you wanna save on your bills.
  14. Ok, not bad result, thanks for the update kschew! So you mean your tank is 28.7C when your MH and chiller are off and the fan is on right? But I think 28.7C is still too high for corals. A 27C would be better. Btw what 1/10HP chiller you use for your 2ft?
  15. Hehe, flubberina jie giving out skin-care products to take care of our skin! CHeer!
  16. Yeah, interesting to know too! Keep us updated dude!
  17. Cause I saw what happened to kschew, quite scared already. Socket overload then clams and corals die.
  18. Whew, what a spectacular collection of red corals! Whoa my eyes bleeding... Roidan must you do this to us???
  19. Yeah, I think that may help cool it better. Cause the water in the sump would also be going through pumps that would perhaps warm it up a little. Think just get to the root of it which is the tank. Blow your main tank would be a good option, but it would be unsightly and also noisier than being in the cabinet. Just my thought...
  20. Yo reefers! Our hobby uses MH, chillers, pumps and what not. These devices draw lots of current from our power sockets. I have a concern that if you multi plug too many devices to one wall socket it would overload. Caus eI think many of us are guilty of multi-plugging lots of devices onto one wall socket. I would like to ask what is the amount of power that can be SAFELY drawn from a single wall socket? THANKS!
  21. Then seems like the fan isn't working then. Thats bad. Btw it was a good idea to schedule the chiller to work with MH or it would draw loads of current! Btw how did your socket trip? Any reasons, overloaded?
  22. Whoa tall tall tank. I like but I think you may have difficutlty doing maintanence and also arrangments of corals and LR. Back would ache like hell. I have a 2.5ft already bad enough. Anyways good luck on your tank! Btw the LR you wanna choose, get those very porous ones.Porous with small holes and relatively light would be good. Also make sure that the LR has living organisms and also coralline algae.
  23. Whew cool big fan you have here! 12VDC fan huh? Interesting... But hows the cooling by the fan? Any good?
  24. You can have both the macroalgae and a DSB in the refug. Seen many people placing macroalgae above their DSB too. No problems.
