  1. Added a new fish. Orchid dorryback. Took me a lot of patience just to take this pic. Very timid fellow. Always hiding in the hole.

After 3 WC, 2 weeks after back from long holiday. Things are slowly getting back in shape. Now I do 2 tests weekly.

    Todays reading :

    8.5 dkh

    1400 magnesium

    470 calcium

    10 no3 (finally dropping from 25ppm 2 weeks ago)

Realized I have some difficulty maintaining magnesium initially, now my dKH drops pretty fast. Any thoughts?

    Hi reefers,

Came back from long holiday to find my tank's kH had fallen to 5.7 (Ca is 400).

But all the corals - incl Acros - are fine. Growing and no colour/tissue loss.

Am wondering if kH is as important as people make it out to be.

    How long can u go?

Maybe ur tank is mature and stable. I came back from almost 2 weeks holiday and dKH dropped from 9 to 6.8. 3 corals STN (which one RIP eventually)

Yup, a nice fellow too that take an effort to walk me through on simple setup of the light.

Any recommendation on the light setting? I am running on 40% intensity with coral growth template from 10am to 10pm. I am not sure if it’s an overkill for a nano with 2 softies and zoa.

They have presets on the eco tech website. U can also search for some YouTube vids. Good to start lower. Later Chao Tah lol

Yeah...definitely need to give it a good rinse.

Normally I'll run it in a bucket with old tank water for 1-2 weeks before adding to the tank.

Did you figure out why the chaeto died?

I can’t pinpoint. Definitely not light cos I bought a kessil for the refugium lol. I only have 4 fishes. Suspect not enough nutrients and flow. Haiz...

Got 2 boxes of Maxpect Bio Sphere from ReefmarketSG last week. The marketing information was compelling - Very large surface area. Does not leach heavy metals. Relatively good price too. Unfortunately there isn't much user reviews available online.

A mesh bag was included in the box.

I didn't know how much volume 2kg would occupy else i'd have gotten a few more boxes. For reference, 2kg of the Maxpect Nano Sphere is roughly the volume of a Marine Pure block.

Product seems quite hardy. Does not scrape off easily unlike some other ceramic based media.
Definitely a positive 1st impression. Let's see how it holds up after use.

Nice review bro. Coincidentally, picked up a box last week too. Lol. “Decomm” my refugium as chaeto died 2x and made a mess of my tank.

Just a note, have to rinse more than 10 times. Small particles keep coming out after very rinse.

Thank you all for the advises / recommendation.

I managed to get hold of a good price for 2nd hand Radion XR15 pro Gen3 + RMS from a fellow sgreefclub whom had decomm a 2ft tank. I saw good reviews on this brand and BSTV had many good video on its performance. Too bad it does not have a built-in wireless control.

    Mine is a nano 10G tank :P

Congrats on the Radion Light. The bro was selling at a good price too. U can set up via desktop though. Turn Up the light slowly, Radions can be an overkill for a start lighting a 10G, especially if have softies only.

  7. This is 2nd WC after I came back. 2 corals STN. One confirmed RIP. Considering I’m Away for quite long and tank is pretty new, pretty low casualty. LOL

Initially have problem maintaining Magnesium, now I have problem maintaining KH.....

Nitrates still high at about 10. But much better than the 25 when I just came back from trip.

Here are some amateur pics :

I saw many gem on the floor.

New toy. You using the orange filter?

    Lol. Pretty common stuff bro....

I think I just took the yellow filter to try. Didn’t have time to try out all lenses. Busy with maintenance of tank and other stuff. Will try this week and give some feedback.

  9. How did it trap debris? Isnt the water was filtered through socks through the sump?

One side is cup. Added wool to the cup. Doesn’t trap debris as well but I don’t have the hassle of washing the sock. Intend to convert both to cup when shipment is in lol

Had it since I started my lagoon (almost 2 yrs).

Do u use RODI water? Mine I clean once or twice per week. Before using RODI (only DI), was cleaning like mad.

Using RO/DI. But don’t get very good TDS. About 5. I took out my chaeto. Died 2x despite buying the kessil light. It made my nitrate worse by trapping the debris. Going to replace with media. Supposed my tank is still new....
