Yes...nylon (cable tie) is generally inert & safe. Strong enough for this purpose.

Typical 304 Stainless steel clips & screws will leech nickel & chromium into your water when it corrodes. Not good.

316 Stainless steel can hold up to corrosion better.  316SS cable clips are not common though.

Thanks for the info on the leeching, learnt something today. Do let me know if you come across full SS ones!

Since im starting a new tank and looking at PH and temperature etc. Was also thinking if it makes more sense to get something i can upgrade in the future (modular). Also considering automatic dosing systems. Any recommendation for automatic dousing with probes? (meaning it will calculate and autodose?) Hope im not too shocked at the cost of one......lol

Saw a video on BRSTV on tank design that its best practice to use a silicon hose to connect your pump to the return pipes.

This is to minimize vibration from pump to the display tank. Apparently, solid piping all the way through is not desired. Something like this pic (found on the internet)

Managed to get good quality silicon hose from ReefmarketSG. I'm told its "Made in Japan".

Simple task of removing the piping.

Take note of overall length of pipe. Cut away a short section (~ 1ft). Add the silicon hose. Measure that its of the same original length. Done in 10 min.

One pump done. 1 more to go.

Apparently, not all silicon hoses are suitable. Its related to the raw materials & the curing method used during the manufacturing process. Risk of leeching contaminants. One needs to be cautious of buying it from industrial sources or online as it may not be truly "food safe" even though its claimed to be. Check the source.

PVC hoses are not as effective to reduce vibration and typically harden over time.

Good information. Are U using cable ties? How does it compare to those SS rings with screws? The only downside, the screws will rust

Let’s bring the poison to another level. We should start organising some mini LFS shopping tours soon. Any joiners? Lol

  6. Quick summary : Started marine hobby only about 3 weeks ago. Got chopped like a carrot head and paid almost $2k for a 2 feet nano with defective cabinet and tons of inferior stuff......expensive lesson.... lol im normally pretty cool, pretty hard to sell me anything. I Guessed it was because I wanted a marine tank since I was a kid. Kan Chiong, jumped off the cliff without any safety harness.........

After some “serious” poisoning and tons of reading and YouTube videos, I’m very convinced (self justification) about the limitations and flaws of my current tank. Since this is going to be my last serious hobby (self psycho), decided to bite the bullet. Going to decommission the 2ft.

Don’t know if im “lucky” or “unlucky”, I managed to get the last set of white Red Sea reefer 250. Next shipment is 1 1/2 months away. Special thanks to brother Kermit for accommodating my non-stop questions lol. Also brother Sherman for his experience sharing.

For this new set-up, decided to just make do with reasonable items (haven’t from loss from previous tank, total write-off).

Here are the items I have bought. Pics to follow when the tank arrives next week....all inputs and advice are greatly appreciated!

    Hardware :

    Bubble-Magus Curve A5

Teco 500 Chiller (used but very new)

    SICCE 3.0 and 1.5

    Carib Sea sand

    Carib Sea (current tank)

Still looking for lights (outta stock for my preferred brand and model)
