  1. Hey thanks for the tip, might try out that mode. hahah got used to the black colour case now !
  2. Just before lights go out IMG_0874.MOV IMG_0872.MOV
  3. Hey thanks for the suggestions. Will dial down my settings accordingly. never thought about the bleaching possibility. luckily I had enough space for the top of my tank to give that distance and spread. btw my previous v2 is for sale if anyone is keen. All of it is working. Just that one of the fans on the lights is a little noisy. Otherwise no issues. looking for 250.
  4. Still trying out the various lighting schedules... will try to watch the brs video tomorrow to titrate my needs. any help from anyone who has one of the v4s? For a mixed reef tank ? Suggestions on settings? IMG_0703.MOV
  5. After a fair bit of thinking, decided to upgrade my Orphek Atlantik to v2 to the v4. a large part of this was due to the fan based power supply that was in my living room. Always felt rather uncomfortable with children at home and worry about water spilling on it. the new v4 gen2 is a wireless power supply. Felt that the old v2 was otherwise more then enough for my needs. btw with the new v4, and wireless functionality, very cool indeed!! Though I would have preferred the white plate which would have matched my tank and decor.
  6. Though natural sunlight has its own set of problems of algae / diatoms, the appearance of the fish tank under the sunlight is amazing. IMG_0572.MOV
  7. The ats was sold separately and taken. skimmer still available. price slightly negotiable
  8. Deltec 1500 used 350 will throw in an ATS with blown lights
  9. Skimmer all cleaned up. letting go at 350. If no one taking it will just keep it for future upgrade ( there will always be one right ! ) will throw in the ats for free to the person taking the skimmer. The LIghts have burnt out.
  10. New skimmer much better. Much easier to tune for my needs! Hope it remains that way
  11. As a newbie, was very cautious about sps. am very happy that I managed to get them to encrust and get some reasonable growth over the last 4-5 months.
  12. On a side note I have an used deltec 1500 ( non adjustable pump) for sale. let me know if anyone is keen.
  13. After weeks of reading decided to replace my deltec 1500 to a skimmer that is actually rated for my tank volume (approx 500l with sump). Everything was going great with the deltec 1500 until about 1 month ago. Kept overflowing no matter what adjustment I did. After researching a fair bit about oversizing of skimmers (contentious) decided that this could be the reason. clearly the deltec 1500 was oversized for my tank vol. however initially with the higher amount of die off / bio load, I managed to tune the skimmer adequately. Now that things are somewhat stable and perhaps the amount of DOC is not sufficient for a constant skim. Well it’s just my theory...let’s see.
  14. Got it off one of the reefers here think they are available online from taobao
  15. Hi, thanks for the kind words. I put in fish only about 2-3 months after I started the tank in October 2020. Having said that, I think the tank only somewhat matured / stabilised around 5-6 months after starting. have managed to overcome algae /diatom issues..now the next goal is to achieve a powdery white sand ....which I somewhat don’t think I can achieve. along the way I was tempted with dosing bacteria numerous times...but was always reluctant as I had felt that they were not long term sustainable options. one of the reasons why I chose a pillar reef type of scape was to maximise the amount of rock I can place into the tank without making the tank look crowded. I believe one of the most important biological filter mechanisms is via the porous rock. This is evidenced by the numerous 2-3 year old tanks I have visited at other reefers whom sometimes have broken down Skimmers / ats and all they have is simple rocks and pumps running.
  16. A few more pics for the weekend ! FullSizeRender.mov
