  1. Cool thanks. So u are saying I can just 'cut/peel' off the dead bits? Also, to remove the bubble, just shake it? Can I use the hand to press it to gentle squeeze out the bubble? Thanks again.
  2. My tank is 3 weeks old.. taking it slow. Got 2 red sponges and 1 turtlegrass that i thought was sea plants lol. No fish or corals yet till my tank is 100% confirmed 'perfect' for fish and corals. This cobwebby stuff are stuck to the new set of LR i added a few days ago. After I landscaped, I took a good look at it and found little strands of white stuff and other 'debris' of sort... When I look at some nice tanks, I just don't remember seeing all these 'dirt' on other people's rock.. so I think other people probably cleaned it while I just plonk mine straight into the tank lol. Ah well... guess I will try to siphon it out. A question on siphoning: I siphon as part of water change right? If not how do the water get replenished in the event I do a major cleaning/siphoning? I am trying to get everything sorted before adding fishes. Thanks all for your replies.
  3. So I am a newbie . And I went and bought LR from number of shops. When all the particles finally selttled down, I can see that there are all sorts of cobweb-like stuff floating on the rocks. So my question: Is there a way to clean it or should I take it all out, stick it in a bath tub of saltwater and use a toothbrush and lightly brush it? Once its out of the water, you can't really see all the floating 'stuff'. Any suggestion? Use a hose and vacuum it? Thanks.
  4. Hmm.. well here's the quote from the little instruction pamplet: "Each drop is equal to 1 degree dKH or 17.9 ppm KH (see chart)." And then on the chart, it says: "6 degree - 11 degree (100-200ppm) Most tropical fish ... blah blah" So I presumed that its ppm?
  5. Well, in the initial 'rush' as a newbie, I went and bought this 'plant'. Its the red one on the left side. I have NO idea what it is and need some help identifying it. That way I can do some research on it. Also I notice this these translucent membraneous 'stuff' around the edges. Can anyone tell me if its dying or its a sign of growth or sign of disease? I got 2 of those in my tank and the other one only have a bit of the membraneous stuff. While on that 'rush', I went and bought the Maiden's Hair plant as well. Its that green tuff on the right. Any recommedations if its good or bad for fish/corals/etc? All help appreciated.
  6. Hi, I am a real newbie to the hobby. I was trying to do my first measure of the GH using a test kit made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. The instructions say to drop it into the testtube and shake it. After x number of drops, the water color will change from Orange to Green and that's the reading. I dropped and dropped and dropped until I dropped 80 drops and the water is still Orange. Is my test kit broken or have I made a very newbie mistake somewhere? Note that this test kit comes with a KH test as well and that one seems normal. I got a reading of 200 ppm (11 drops) with it. Any info would be much appreciated.
