  1. 1. put bioball inside ..

    2. put 2 layer of cotton wool on top of the bioball to reduce the waste + more even water going down. Change the wool every 2 weeks. The wet cotton wool also help to reduce the water falling noise.

    3. Install a ball valve in the sump , close a little bit so to slow down the water from overflow -> sump.

My tank used to setup as the above method until I install a durso pipe ...

  3. Hi

By reading this tread, i have solve my problem.

I have bougt a macro few days ago.

I found out that when I off the return pump, the water in the macro keep rising untill it flood the collection cup.

According to you guys explaination that the water level depends on the depth of the pump. Thats means that when I off the return pump the water level i the sump increase and that cause the water in the macro to rise as well.

In the end i have to connect the 2 pump into the same switch so that I switch off both pump together.

I think it is not a good designin this area.

You can always rise the skimmer up so that the skimmer is above the water level.

  4. My tank's 1 yr old. I had diatom problems for about 5 months, tried everything, upgrade skimmer, put in rowaphos, siphon off top layer of sand, cleaning crew, water change... nothing happened and i gave up. So i left the tank as it is for about 3 months... din even clean the glass or change water  The lifestock was ok with this neglect (too busy with work). Finally cleaned the tank up, had to use razor to scrap the algea off the glass! Found out the the diatoms all cleared and the sandbed super white & clean. Dun really know wat happened though. But i guess patience played a big part... or despair

that's because the algae consumed all the silicate ...
