  1. thanks for all your replies. I think 1 shd do too. However I notice that some internal overflow has the overflow piping higher (ie water fills up atleast 3/4 or half of tank height) while some have it short with just an inch of water. So have bio-balls filled up while some is plain empty. Any rationale for such schemes?
  2. Hi, doing planning for future reef tank design. Would like to know if reefers here recommend 1 or 2 built in overflow for a 4-5ft tank? btw, what's the pros & cons of built-in overflow Vs external overflow design (or siphon box design)?
  3. Hi, I am trying to gather some opinions on Tunze series of DOC skimmers. I noticed that there are little or almost no write-ups on this skimmers especially within the Sg reefing online forums. The common mentioned ones are always Deltec, H&S...etc. The Tunze seems to have a unique skimming concept and generate very little noise and consume very little power and space. As such, I am surprise that these skimmers are not popular here. btw, I am not a Tunze dealer or anything like that. I am planning ahead for my future reef tank. I used to run a 3 ft beckette on an previous tank and while it skimmed well, it looks unsightly, consume alot of space (cannot hide in sump), needed a very powerful pump ($$$) to run and is noisy. The Tunze DOC skimmer seems like the very opposite of my beckette. So folks, any opinion on Tunze skimmers?

  5. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm still in consideration of reefing because if I wanted to start again, I wanted it done right and proper. I do not want a "OK" or "so-so" reef tank I had in the past. I also wanted to give myself some time to cool off this idea to make sure it's not a impulse calling...)
  6. Hi All, I had been keeping an "OK" LPS reef tank in the past for a long time until I reluctantly gave it up due to the arrival of my first child and also due to moving house a few years ago. Lately I felt a calling to start reefing again, even in my dreams. I'm off the reefing scene for a few years now and would like to seek some advise and opinion whether I should indulge in a new reef tank project. My main concern are below: 1) My job involve occasional traveling. Is it possible or practical to keep & maintain a reef tank if I am for example away for 2 months? I can set up automatic feeding but can the water chemistry be maintain well by using gadgets controllers (btw, what's the cost of such systems?)? I am not familiar with such systems and options in these area. 2) My last tank was a continually effort because I learned from scratched, alot of improvisions and very untidy. How can I keep a tank setup neat and clean & SILENT? 3) Btw, if I'm going to start a tank, it's is atleast going to be 4 ft. pls advise. thank you.
