  1. And is the One Spot less common than the Lo?
  2. Are they really different species with different maximum sizes? Websites say 10 inches for the Lo and 8 inches for the One Spot. Are they any less active than Tangs? The FishBase profiles give a maximum recorded size of 8” for the One Spot, 10” for the Foxface Lo but “Common Length” is listed as also 8 inches.
  3. Aquaculture and Captive Breeding are the best hope for the long-term prosperity of our hobby. I’m all for it. Are most corals coming out of Indo these days aquacultured ones?
  4. I see.... How big’s your tank and what do you have in it? Do you live in an apartment if so which floor? I’m asking because I live on a second floor apartment, in China tho.
  5. That’s good to know. What happened to the Blue Throats you kept?
  6. Yeah I’m considering the Blue Throat. How hardy are they? what about Rhinecanthus Triggers? Would they be suitable in terms of size and temperament?
  7. I’m curious as to how many of you live in apartments and how big are your tanks? Is the weight ever a problem for the floor? Especially curious for those of you who live 2nd floor and higher.
  8. I’m also considering a Triggerfish and looking to see if any would be suitable for a smaller tank, as in 6’ x 2’ (or 2.2’) x 1.5’. I know most can get quite large.
  9. Thanks a lot, that’s really helpful. The inclusion of a blenny is also another reason why I have given up on a Bristletooth Tang, because I have read many cases of them having conflict. For wrasses I am also considering a Hogfish like a Red Stripe and Green Coris so would love to know more about them.
  10. That really sucks ass. If that happens where can we still get corals from? Just FOWLR from now on? Yikes.....
  11. I’m going to do an upwards of 4 larger fish in a 6’ x 2’ x 1.5’ tank so 130G (128.39 if we are being precise). I am not sure if I will add more than 1 Tang, was just looking into the Mimic for a possibility. I have given up on Bristletooths because heard they can be harder to get eating as they like to eat detritus while Zebrasoma and some Acanthurus are traditional herbivores / omnivores. Just how delicate are the Genicanthus and Yellow Pyramid Butterflies? Do they get sick easily? Need very good water quality at all times? What about the Coral Beauty and Tangs? For smaller fish I am looking at 1 Ocellaris pair (Captive Bred), Yellow Watchman Goby and Tiger Pistol Shrimp combo, some damsels, Pajama Cardinal, some wrasses including Yellow Coris. That’s what I am considering for now. Royal Gramma, Midas Blenny, Long Nose Hawk, Borbonius Anthias, and Burgess Butterfly (Roaps) also on pending list.
  12. Hi all I would like to know what is your opinion of the following fish I am considering for my tank? 1. Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish 2. Spot Breast (Japanese Swallowtail), Lamarck’s and Watanabei Angelfish 3. Coral Beauty Angelfish 4. Burgess Butterflyfish 5. Mimic Lemonpeel Tang 6. Zebrasoma Tangs (Purple, Scopas, Yellow- Hawaii ban so not available anymore) How would you rank their hardiness and resistance to diseases? Would you say any of them are particularly hard for beginner like me?
  13. I thought they banned it for a while in 2018 then resumed?
  14. Yes but still it’s sad how they actually went ahead with it, and so quickly.
  15. https://bigislandnow.com/2021/01/13/judge-bans-all-aquarium-fishing-in-hawaii/ Sad. Until enough Captive Bred specimens hit the market (and affordable), I guess it’s goodbye to our beloved Yellow Tangs, Kole Tangs, Potter’s Angels, Crosshatch and Humu Triggers, Lemon Butterflies, Christmas Wrasses, Potter’s Leopard Wrasses, Flame and Multicolor Angels, Bandit Angels and countless others.
  16. I know most of you guys live in flats so I wonder how common are big tanks (150+ gallons) in SG?
  17. Thanks haha appreciate it. Would you say any of the Tangs I listed get too big to be in this tank for life? What about Foxface?
  18. Hi just want to add, on which of these fish maybe can’t / shouldn’t be kept in a 125 for life. Would love to upgrade to 180+, 200+ gallons even better in the future just not sure when that will happen.
  19. I have been using this website for a while in the process of researching, and was even in personal contact with the founder Bob Fenner before he passed away earlier this year. Very good site indeed and has definitely given me lots some of useful info to go by.
  20. Oh hi there I am new here, I am a reefer currently living in Guangzhou, China. It’s not easy to find a reefing community here in Asia because the state of the hobby here is relatively new compared to many Western countries but I am fortunate enough to have come across here. It has been my dream to start my own reef tank since I was 8 or 9, currently 24 and hope to get started in Q1 of this year. I am Chinese-Canadian grew up in Vancouver both parents from Chongqing. I don’t know how many of you live in condos but my condo will be on the second floor, with load bearing wall and no one beneath me. Wooden floor and concrete underneath. Do you think it will be safe to support a 125g (468L) tank? Dimensions will be 175cm x 60cm x 45cm. I see on sites like FishBase and works by authors like Scott W. Michael, Burgess, Rudie Kuiter and so on that some of these fish reach pretty big sizes like over 20cm or even 30cm, however is that to be expected for the average specimen whether in the wild or in our systems? My tank is planned to be mostly a soft coral and LPS tank, beginning with soft corals. SPS I will have to see after a year or so depending on how things go. As for the fish currently can confirm: 2 Ocellaris Clowns (Captive Bred and the only Captive Bred on my list) 1 Yellow Coris Wrasse (for coral pest control) 1 Pajama Cardinalfish 1 Yellow Watchman Goby + Tiger Pistol combo (for symbiotic relationship) 3-4 Damselfish: Yellowtail Blue, Azure, Lemon/ Talbot’s, Blue Devil Want up to 3 Large fish not sure if too many, definitely want 1 Zebrasoma Tang: 1 Zebrasoma Tang (First Preference: Purple Second Preference: Yellow Third: Scopas) Considering: Foxface Lo (most likely will get) Lemonpeel Mimic Tang Tomini Tang Spot Breast (Japanese Swallowtail) / Watanabei Angelfish Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish Xanthurus Cream Angelfish Considering (Medium Sized Fish): Borbonius Anthias Roaps Butterflyfish (Burgess most likely) Considering (Smaller Fish): Coral Beauty Angelfish Saddle Valentini Puffer Royal Gramma Midas Blenny Long Nose Hawkfish This is like a potential wish list for me. I wonder what would be the best combo especially for the large fish? Also are any of the fish I have chosen hard to keep? Basically don’t want anything too difficult especially because I am a beginner. Since many of the fish also come from Indonesia and Philippines how bad is the cyanide situation these days? Would really appreciate help! Thanks.
