  1. I agree that this hobby suck quite a bit of notes if ones is not careful.... Well, look at the bright side, this hobby make me look and think hard....... at least for my electrical bill so that my hubby .... feels it's okay
  2. I have almost quit.... and come back It's the passion
  3. Add some rowaphos somewhere in your filteration system. The situation should improve in coming weeks.... if not, control your feeding... tank too small to cope the loads.... PS: ensure some flow at bottom helps too....
  4. how about setting a trap with one more star? I believe the star can survive for months in the trap with feeding....
  5. Well, this is just my passing thought.... When water is clearer, light intensity to the bottom will be better..... this is only one factor whether corals florish or not..... only when everything is good then improved result can be observed. IMO, ozone alone is not enough to see any result at all. PS: water clarity can be achieve thru' other means too....
  6. That's true.... my tank crash during that period of time... I smell some insectcide smell going from upper floor.... didn't suspect anything and didn't even cover my tank top and by evening time realised everything died.... After that, I'll cover the top when there is any alien smell...
  7. I think a month or two, should not be a problem in freezer that will make it cake like ice and provided clean spoon is used everytime....
  8. Great product with affordable price! If u r feeding dried cylopeezes then this is more superior... The pods are much bigger as compared. Most of them when dump in water will be sweep in motion with the flow around the tank till consume.. only relatively small amount stay floating in water column... a few stirs at water column few minutes later, will get all consumed. Glenn, I'm getting new order.....
  9. so thoughtful of you to post the site as well....
  10. How a Lumi Green Octo fly there? The flesh kana cut off by something?
  11. Is JBJ and daeli chiller same? They look a little similar as well....
  12. I think should be hardy enough if water parameters intact and there is something in the sand to feed him... I got one still alive even after a mishap that one leg gone... currentlhy seeing a tiny leg growing in place....
  13. U can try to bring that unit to Sim Lim Square shop where the second hand computer for sale to test your luck...
  14. How's about starving them a day and then offer only seaweeds to them next day? PS: Ah-lim, I think feed less of that seaweed u take picture with... Have u take a bite and see whether is it tasty? If no choice than have to wash off the seasoning....
  15. What is your temperature like? I had experience that even big size shrimps with nobody bully them died on me one by one and within a span of 2 week, all gone.... One of them, I even saw it dead with complete corpse inside the cave.... For this, my guess was that probably due to little oxygen level though fishes look okay.... I had no chiller then and tank temp was 29 to 31.5....
  16. I think one of the "water out pipe" near overflow will somehow create problem.... Can u imagine how the water going to flow when water suppose to flow down the overflow but there is one pushing the water away? I will think that dirty water get to retain longer in the tank.... Is there alternative to change that problematic pipe?
  17. A reduction in time may not spell saving in electricity… Can ones see that unless there is a 20min reduction in time for the 0.3hp chiller cooling the same tank, it is actually consuming more energy? (See the pic, I have boxed it) A chiller using 1hour cooling 1 degree in one tank may not be the same in another due to different workload. Hence, comparison can only be made if work load is the same. Hence, perhaps reefers who have experiences of more than 1 chiller brand with roughly the same workload can give some references as in which brand is better after some observations of the ON/OFF time…. Since I have used Resun CL450, CL650 and this current one, I can see that Daeli chiller has a higher efficiency than Resun… A point to note is that I would think that when the engineer of a reliable brand of chiller design its product, 40 to 60% duty cycle should be considered and tested to operate for a reasonable time frame… Lastly, I hope this thread is indeed useful to help fellow reefers to clear some of the misconception….
  18. Hi mengyang_neo! Welcome..... Go and read the members tank and spec section, read as many threads as possible and see how people setup up their tank and get it cycle etc. IMHO, bio home/bio balls/coral chips/liverock serve the function of increasing the surface area for bacteria to colonise and turn harmful ammonia and nitrite into some less harmful, nitrate. As for bio home turning soft in reeftask's tank, probably his ph is acidic and hence "melt" it after a long time. I will think that all equipments need maintainance to operate in its optimum level and hence cannot ignore the cleaning part of bio ball/coral chips/filter floss/etc. Eg. u have to clean and wash the skimmer cup as part of the routine, right?
  19. Wah... this is your belief? It's true ideas won't get u rich but "ideas + effort" to make the idea from something in your brain only to something "solid" will.... One can have many ideas but it just take one good idea to get rich As for sugar daddy... only when your idea is appealing that the sugar daddy will come
  20. Hi thedidavid! U r in water treatment industry? Can ask some questions? In your opinion, what are the likely components in the TDS reading? In a certain way, I have not figure out the benefits of using the distilled water yet... the benefits seems small (Singapore water is so clean overall) 'cos I would think that those food we feed, get to dirty the water more unless one feed pellets only... The important thing I look at the tap water is the absence of silicate, phosphate and nitrate which will fuel the algae.... The rest seems negible... [Offer the best grade of saltmix impact more] I don't know about the impact of chloramine though... which many website educate us to beware.
  21. ok... after a quick search here reveal it's AM....
  22. Search this forum for the electrical bill cal excel.... u can change the relevent parameters easily...
  23. where to buy reeflux bulb and how much per piece?
  24. I don't deny that as well.... but normally lobo for sale are bigger in size than the one shown here.. this one is probably slightly about a frag of yuma size...
  25. Aiya... pls lah... we r no scientist here leh.... this kind of reaction is soooooo slow that I do not think the fine particles refer here come from there...
