  1. Thks bros for the id. Definitely looked more like Argus wrasse than Melanurus wrasse. But there r also some sites that id it as melanurus but most id it as H. Argus. Even I was told it was a melanurus at the shop. But the most important thing is, can it get rid of monti eating nudis? Will be monitoring.

The genus Halichoeres contains a variety of "melanurus" look-alike(some of which I also cannot really id).

This popular genus also contains many popular and well-known pest-busters such as Halichoeres leucoxanthus. Whether or not nudi-eating I cannot assure, but it would be good to monitor and give it a shot I suppose. As in the wild, these fellows are not obligate nudi eaters and its only in the aquaria that aquarists document them as effective nudi-eaters.

No matter what, I hope it will for you and wish you all the best!

  2. Cyano is taking over my sandbed and I realised that my skimmer is not skimming as desired. Took it out and gave it a wipedown and didn't find any problems. Its been day 2 since I last washed it and there is still not much skimmate formed. Don't know whether is it still breaking in again or is there other reasons.

According to this photo, the bubbles seem okay.

And I'm currently running FM Ultraphos in my reactor. Just changed the media to a fresh batch yesterday and PO4 readings were 0.8ppm this morning.

How should I deal with this evil nemesis?

  3. I usually add Reef Builder(SeaChem) premixed with RO water directly into a high flow area in the sump. Haven't observed any apparent cloudiness.

Usually cloudiness could mean precipitates. I would check for any buildup amongst my pumps first. Then followed by a kH test of the aquarium water. Otherwise, the cloudiness should only be temporary when you are adding due to dilution of the saltwater. To be safe, if its something unknown to me, I wouldn't take the chance to add in it.

Spare the few dollars and save your aquarium instead.

  4. Hi fellow reefers,

The inlet elbow of my TLF Phosban reactor just split at the seams. As a temporary measure, I decided to go ahead and do without the elbow and inserted the hose direct into the inlet. However, by doing this, I'm afraid the hose would kink and the water flow for the inlet be greatly reduced.

I believe I am not the only person experiencing this issue and have received advice from fellow reefers to go with the above method.

Just wondering if there is any others out there with better methods to secure the hose.

Here is a link from down under for someone who replaced the elbows with more solid fittings and I think its a great idea.

Any comments would be grealty appreciated:)

  5. Basically the rocks just underwent a royal rumble. Finally decided on this scape for now.

Dumped a packet of CaribSea Ocean Direct live sand into the tank yesterday and it turned the entire tank cloudy. Was so worried that livestocks will dieoff but luckily no casualties and tested the water last night for assurance, luckily nothing.

My itchy hands resulted in my trying to raise my Ca levels using calcium chloride powder. Levels went up to 500ppm and I'm trying to do water changes to lower it now. Luckily LS are all still doing well. Will stop fiddling with any supplements for now until levels are back to normal. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Now I know...HAHAHA

  6. Some photo updates.

  7. IMO unless your tank is SPS intensive with colonies. I don't think you will need additives for Mg. Regular water changes should replenish the levels

My tank has mostly LPS softies and a frag of encrusting sps and my Mg levels are nicely maintained with water changes using a good salt mix

  8. Thanks thanks for all the advice. .

    Just apply n straight paste?

    Anything to take note?

I have another plasticine kind. . 2 have to mix to 1.. purplish in colour. What's the main function for that? Please advice. .

That's epoxy putty Mix the resin with the hardener and then mash them up and wait for it to set. Apply some moisture to soften it to knead properly..and voila!

Most people sandwich the putty in between the plug and the superglue gel as it provides better grip. I like to do it as well but sometimes I'm just plain lazy so I use a little more gel and apply it directly onto the plug and hold it for about 10-20seconds on the desired location for it to set
