That's all i told her at first... she is not keen to buy a second hand tank... she can afford new tank anyway.. so.. if it was me i would have bought second hand liao.. wahhaa.. again, it's not my money , but guess she wun settle for second hand tank...

Anyway i living in school hostel...graduating in 1.5 years, no point do so swee now later have to move home.. upgrade when i move home.. hehe.. but my budget 2ft tank using all second hand equipment plus "this" airstone skimmer still doing well.. contented with my reefing as for now... wahaha cheers,

But bro, there is always budget and space constraint le.. just like me.. skimming something better than not skimming le...

what's the average period to change? mine is going to be 2 months soon.. still looks and skimming ok

Thanks all bros for the comments... i get wat all of you meant.. i will relate the message to my gf's mother... personally i told her to get a freshwater tank if maintanance is the problem.. haha.. Think probably the system will work with low bio load and speciifc corals only.. anyway she not venturing into intermediate reef.. just wan a tank to brightrn up the house... Maybe if she really want to try out ( it's her $$ not mine ), i will update you all on the progress.... lol for all the replies cheers!

i never DIY anything stuff b4.. but most of the things i using are second hand stuff.. haha, cannister filter, tank.. basically most of the things.. alright, can arrange to see my tank if u all wan haha, cheers, study hard for exams!

I somehow think that any LFS owner would not anyhow make such a claim becos people usually will gain knowledge first before setting up a marine tank and the claim might be seriously harming his business...

Wow, so much debate about this... Actually the situation is that my gf mum wans to setup a tank in her house, so she ask me to help to look at the tanks on offer. Obviously i am not the one who is gonna maintain the tank (not my house), i suggest freshwater which is much easier. However she came across this brochure about Zero maintaince tank system and she asked me along to give my views.. Quite troubled as i really do not know whether the system will work, she seems to like the tank and system.. anyway for references this is the website... The website Hope bros out there can give me some feedback if u happen to come across ppl using this system, any success or failure stories...

HAHA, i will go check out his tank maybe in a week's time.. He uses very thin sand bed think less than even 1 inch... no nusiance algae growing on his rocks also.. all the corals are opening up well.. maybe it's his low bioload cos he said he just feed brime shrimps to his coral once every other week..

But both his 3ft and 4ft display tanks are full of corals and the colors are well... As i saw the whole setup myself, i sort of think it can work because there is reli only bio rings and balls.. haha.. the 4ft setup has something like a sump full of bio balls and bio glass with a weipro skimmer.. the 3ft setup filttarion is in the behind compartment with top and bottom overflow.. and a weipro as well. anyway they charging $880 for a 3ft by 1.5 by 1.5 setup complete with filter materials and skimmer, T4 lights and seawater plus delivery./...

I saw his tank reli only contain wool, bio balls and bio rings... somemore the skimmer is just a normal weipro skimmer.. he claims he dun dose trace element and topping up with tap water will replenish the trace elements needed... i have to admit his bio load is small.. but in his 3 by 1.5 by 1.5 tank, he was just using a weipro 2011 and there were ard 7 fishes inside..

Ok, i guess it's reli a sales gimmick... need to ask someone who had tried his system to confirm the results though.. haha

He still said he doing research in i think Singapore Poly and his tank outdo those by the students there where they maintain everyday and he just did nothing except to clean the tank surface...

I mostly see LPS, bubble corals all these. Livestocks there is a variety other than damsels.. maroon clown.. he claims that he feed only once a week..

Hi all, i just went to aquarium setup consultation place at tagore lane. He claim that his Advanced Biological Filtration System doesn't require changing of water. Furthermore top up with normal tap water can already. He is just using special bioballs and bio rings which he said no need to change forever. And wool also for the filtration system. His display tanks are doing very well and he claimed that he did not change water for 1 year 8 months already. How true can it be? His corals are looking nice and well as well as the fishes. He said his system is capabale of reducing nitrate. He said they have done years of research on this and their idea is to have full control of the water parameters and not change water to make it stablize, DSB is not encouraged becos he say this will not enable him to control the water parameters completely. Can anyone verify this as the idea seems very new compared to the usual sump with filter materials and constant water changing. The company's profile is quite good and been around for a long time doing research and import and export. Dunno whether this method will work, have anyone tried this filtration b4? He claims all his customers are very statisfied and he is currently doing research in Singapore polytechnictoo.. Need some advice.. Thanks.
