  1. thanks bro. i tot for safetly reasons, better do so. the most i found is crab trap, but not on how to fish the shrimp out. wonder if it works for both.
  2. anyone has any idea how to catch the boxing shrimp in my tank without messing up the rocks that spent a lot of time scaping. i heard that it that it will do harm to my fishes. intend to return it to the lfs. thanks
  3. no. not that i notice. came with a device to mute the sound. but i dun think its loud. if there is, maybe at most as loud as the sound made by venturi.
  4. earlier one not properly focused. this one is better. taken after 5min. can't tell how good it is yet. but i see v fine bubbles.
  5. fruit of labour - very satisfied with the machine. could see black stuff coming out in 5-10 min.
  6. one week of hardwork! after my research on skimmers, running a poll, and hunting ard singapore. i finally got a macro needlewheel AS200P. due to space constraints of my pathetic 2ft sump and cabinet, it took me 3 hrs to make space and fit the pump and everthing in i got it a very good price with our sponsor. great guy kenny taught me quite a few things on reefkeeping. a nice trip down.
  7. nxt time you can use coarse sand on the bottom put a layer of net and then add your fine sand.... but since most of your sand is in.... juz a suggestion
  8. hi. how about minimising the slash of the water right into the sump, by letting it run down something before it goes into water. i think this should help. a lot of time the bubbles that do into the tank is not due to the fine bubbles from the skimmer but the splashing of water b4 it goes into the return pump... juz my 2cts
  9. just simply vote for the one that you are using/ thanks.
  10. is there sound coming from the overflow area? to maintain the water level in the box close to the level of tank, how abt putting a valve at the outlet of the overflow. this way there wont be a white color pipe sticking into the tank and it will be a good indicator as to how much water to top up for evaporation. juz my 2cts
  11. and how do you find it?
  12. because my tank is too small and pbt needs more space to grow.bro......... =p....
  13. abt 7 wks. i got my sand from the seaside. v fine sand. filtered the dirt but din wash it. so far alright. thanks
  14. gave away my powderblue following the advice of a fellow reefer. tank looks a bit empty for now. anyway, my sand bed produces a tiny bubble every one or 2 minutes. is that a good or bad sign? why i have this concern is that the bottom 2/3 of it has turned black. anyone has any insights? thanks
  15. weipro 2013 vs macro needlewheel AS150P which one performs better? makes a better or more skimmate? anyone has any opinion thanks
  16. how to know it's new batch or old batch? i'm interested in one oso.... cos of price
  17. i think you are right. are they called false perculas?
  18. met a kind lady reefer today in the shop. she gave me many tips on reefkeeping, so i decided to give a try on corals. hope these 2 new additions can survive well in my tank. so many thanks to flamey who cleared my doubts in this area. i don't have a decent dc. for now, i'm using this lousy ko*ak which has lousy white balance and poor focusing. can't take proper pictures with it. really miss my S50 which i used to have. haiz....
  19. can't really bear to part them eh... the 2 tangs... got feeling already although few wks only. i think in abt one or 2 yrs time when i become more knowlegeable and experienced abt reefkeeping, i'll upgrade to a 4 footer. i understand that these fishes need lots of space to swim... but for the time being while they still fit, i'll watch over them well. as for the cabinet, it's really quite a simple diy job. u can order wood from a timber factory. cost me abt 100bucks only for this 3x1.5. u can get the factory to cut the wood to your specs. so the rest of the job is abt filing the edges to size, drilling holes and screwing(dont nail) them together. i emphasize safety in cabinet construction. if anyone notice, ready-made tanks like the J**ell and most others, they are usually made from pieces of plywood joint to one another without a supporting frame inside. i don't recommend such a design for diys. a diy cabinet needs a strong supporting frame inside - insurance. don't cut corners. and you'll be very satisfied after you complete it.
  20. hi bro, my PBT abt 2 wks already. ya so far got no ich. the other fishes also. i dunno y. but my tank has got quite some tiny white fleas. are they called copepods?
  21. view from side. i notice i i block off the glass behind the tank with a cardboard, the colors the fish and rocks will stand out better. but since my tank isn't placed against the wall, i shall keep it like that. i dun haf a good dc for the time being. so can't take better pictures and closeup shots.
  22. because i want to have my tank viewable from both sides, i can't stack the rocks against the back. 2nd reason is that the tank is too narrow, so i cant broaden the base much further otherwise i dun have place to put enuff corals in the future. i should really get more LR to see if i can make them fit into the tank. i tried to rock the rocks in the tanks. feels ok to me - stable. but definitely not earthquake proof. here's a pic of the tank from behind
  23. quite few fish. cos they sell freshwater fish also.
  24. ic, now i know the meaning of going slow..... =p
  25. 6wks at most i think. that's about all for the next few wks. thanks for reminding me dan
