  1. I have been using it and have not seen adverse effect with 1-3 months of water change schedule. This is what I normally do.... say I had 1100ppm Mg, 370ppm Cal and 8dKH. I will top up Mg, say 100g EPSOM first, top up Cal say 2tsp CaCl, then top up say 1tsp buffer. And then do some measurement and repeat the cycle..... I notice that if I concentrate on uping the Mg first, the corals not so favourable but if I up everything slowly, even the readings is still low, corals are more happy.

    Just my observation.

    i c! :lol:

  2. Don't try to add over dose MG to boost up to the required amount, it will upset the system. I did it slowly alternate days and after a week plus it got back to normal and my calcium too. I strongly advice you guys to be patient. Try to look for 3 party opinion from the experts in the net or books. Experts, I meant ppl who are did Marine studies for many years not those trial and error type.

    Good luck and seek true knowedge

    :peace:

    ok! bro!

    thankyou very much for remind me!

    thanks! :)

  3. Using the previous link I post, how much you need to add to bring up to recommended value? How it is added in? These are the only problems I can think of..... To me, if 3/4 teaspoon is to bring up from low to recommended level, then I will do it in days...... (only you yourself know how much your tank vol and Mg level)

    bro, i kno 3/4 teaspoon wont bring up the mg to recommended value. but i was worried add in that in 1 shot will create shock to the life stock. so how u think? do i have to add it everyday? or i should make it in 1 shot??? :( need ur advice!

  4. MG is like a bridge to corals and LR. If your Mg is low, your corals and LR cannot absorb calcium well thus calcium level became high. In human....if you consume calcium supplement without magnesium, the calcium supplement will be a waste and bypass your bones.....my 5cents worth of knowledge.

    So focus on raising your MG. :peace:

    thanks bro! (Jackal)

    im oreadi stop adding any ca, and stop driping the kallwaasser from last nite!tonite might b kno e result!

  5. Your macro algae getting white which may be due to other reason. ie light, nitrate, etc. I did experience grape calepera going asexual not too long ago when I add sugar to reduce nitrate and not the other type of calepera algae in my sump. It seems to me that the grape macro algae is much more 'sensitive' to the drop of nitrate.

    From my understanding, Mg play a role in maintaining the Ca and dKH => more stable Ca level and dKH level and when within specification is unlikely to cause any adverse effects. How much epsom salt have you add in that you supect is the EPSOM salt causing it?

    As for high sulphate, do you do partial water change? I did not experience much problem in using EPSOM salt to raise Mg level all the while 'cos I still do partial water change in one to two months time frame.

    hi bro, (kareen)

    3/4 teaspoon. for my 2 feet tank.

    not yet chage water, coz im adding it last nite, so tonite will check it out 1st. am i doing it ok?

  6. Magnesium Sulphate = EPSOM salt in layman term. I believe the above two product can be use to raise calcium and magnesium.

    PS: I take no responsibility if it crash your tank. U must know what you are doing if you use diy additives.

    hi kareen,

    epsom salt contain high sulphate and this morning b4 i come out to work, i do check on my tank, and i realise my macro algae is getting white, is this oso related to the epsom salt? :(

  7. Before I dose any kallwasser everything is normal. high Mg, kh, Ca but once i start to dose kallwasser everything drop. try dosing kallwasser a few time but same thing happen. so I stop dosing kallwasser totally and every thing back to normal till now.

    ok bro, i will stop using the kallwasser for some time 1st 2 c the result!

    thanks Bro!

  8. im using redsea saltmix. coz here i can only purchase this. bside of this, that is sera. which is not recommend by the lfs. my salinity is 1.023,

    kh=9

    ca=320

    mg=800 (drop heavily) b4 =7++

    the whole bottle of mg is almost finish by me. and im start loose passion from this oreadi. my bubble not open at all. the first time water change mg reach 1+++. and my bubble open happily. but now... any idea to boost up? and i start to feed my bubble with market prawn hope to keep it survive. i drip kallwasser daily. :( hope to supply some ca for my bubble.

  9. Hi guys, I'm very new to marine, and would like to start off with a 15" Cube tank.

    Here's what I've to work with (currently on hand)

    1 x 15" Cube tank

    1 x 55w PLL, 1 x 18w PLL

    Jebo 502 Mini Hang on Filter

    I've worked out a few possibilities:

    Shrimps/Crabs only tank:

    Mantis? (heard many horror stories on them but nevertheless fascinated by their colors and unique characteristics)

    ###### shrimps and other types of shrimps/crabs

    Seahorse only tank:

    Various seahorse sp.

    Small fishes only tank:

    Various gobies or blennies

    Which of the above should I choose? I'm leaning towards shrimps/crabs only tank or seahorse only tank. Any other advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :thanks:

    i heard fr others that the sea horse need a bigger tank, and they r not suitable for nano tank, they oso need low current. any1 who ever success in nano tank to keep sea horse. :D

  10. Havent experience this first hand, but read somewhere that macros may give out certain toxins or chemicals in the wild to stun or kill nearby corals to compete for reef space.

    That may be the reason. Or maybe prehaps you should check yur water parameters and any signs of illness or parasites.

    My 2cents worth ;)

    thanks bro. tonite mayb i will try to take off some algae. :o
