  1. what's a 2nd bubble king ? I always thought maxima is a clam or are u refering to one of our fellow reefers ? what's that bubble king do to worth 1.6k ? hmm... so how much for a am1000 denitrator?
  2. okay, looks tough as it is... maybe I will go down to ML when I am back and get the exotic stuff from them.... other than that, I think my heart will not die until I see what's the LFS at manila is really like... really hoping to get the good clams just like the good old days.
  3. is clown trigger harmful to corals ? if I have a tomato clown and green chromis, can I just leave the mantis shrimp alone ?
  4. hmm... that skimmer can go up to 500g. I think would have caused a bomb. any comments on zeovit or the am1000 denitrator ?
  5. thanks a zill bro, so it looks like the trouble are with the philippines gov. their airport has super strigent checks, and with the ban, it will be quite unlikely I can get the CITE export permit from them..... hmm.. that's really too bad!! I will be going to hanoi after CNY. Wonder if there is any ban by the government there? Any bro tried hanoi ? if all else fail, will have to rely on the lfs to bring it in leow
  6. shorty 5000 ? is that aquamedic also ? please tell me more about it.
  7. ya, just wondering how bad the situation will be without the proper doc for 1 clam [if I cant hand carry one in]. anyone else tried before ?
  8. okay. I will go read it up. I remember one of the LFS offers this system but I wasnt too sure if I need it. I was hoping to get a more permanent solution and hence resort to a quickie AZNO3- + grape in the sump. anyone has comment on zeovits ?
  9. hi bros, I am in manila and one of the local guys going to bring me to the marine's petshop areas! I am thinking if I find some clams, can I buy them and hand carry back ? What's the issue going to be ? I am thinking of maybe maximum 1 clam [coz the fate of my current giant squas is still uncertain and I still have some problem with my water] Does anyone tried this before ? Which immigrations/customs will be causing the problem ? Or can I just fed-ex it back ? thanks, and please give me any advise especially those who had done it before. Just curious how LFS get theirs in.
  10. On my NO3 ------------- My NO3- reading used to be around 50ppm. I was changing water and dosing AZNO3- for nearly 2-3 weeks, and it dropped to 10ppm. Recently, it raised again to around 50ppm and more [which I think was due to my clam spawning and my increase in photo period] On Skimmer --------------- I am using aquamedic autoflooter 1000, which I think is pretty efficient. Any bro has comment on this ? any suggestion on what the next better skimmer might be ? On Autofeeder ----------------- I observed that my clown, anthias and 1xchromis [forgetting my 1xcoral beauty] always seems to gobble up the food in less than 1 minutes. I think I will stop the auto feeding when I reach home this wed. Everything goes to stop my NO3- fluatuation!!! On Nitrate Feeder -------------------- What's the price range like for the aquamedic 1000 ? I think that's the right size for 150g tank. Which shop has it ? thanks for all your comments!
  11. hi bro, I being facing some problems/fluctuation with my NO3-. Here's the recent actions on my part to battle it. a. change 10% water every weekend b. grow "grape" in my refugrium. c. Use Sechem Nitrate reducer d. Use AZNO3- e. Remove all ceramic media and clean up bio balls I begin to think that I may want to add a Denitrator to battle it. Is anyone using Aquamedic nitrate reductor before ? Is there anything else I can use or do to lower my NO3-. noteS: a. my tank is 15mnth old, with 5-6 inch of DSB b. I only have a tomato clown, 1x anthias, 1 green chromis and 1 sand shifter c. I feed pellet twice a day [smallest hole on my auto-feeder] please help! I am not sure if this should be in equipment or General reef sections. any advise are welcome thanks!!!
  12. sorry for the stupid qn, but what is moonlighting ? what does it do ? my coral always suffer a shock when my mh switch off at nite. does it helps that ?
  13. oops, I meant to say it is 2.5' feet from the MH to the spawning clam. I had also stop dosing AZno3- from yesterday, seeing that the giant is gaping. any bro encountered spawning before ? What to do next ? I will change water in 2 days time. I was wondering if PH could be one of the cause. I being uping my PH from 8 to 8.3 over the course of 3 days. That's a lot of powder [150g tank]. could that cause stress ?
  14. hi, thanks for all the advise. The chiller is set to turn on at 28, and off at 27. That giant squas and the one spawning is about 2.5" below the light [150w MH]. Actually, my giant squa also start spawning about the same time as the other one did. However, he only did that for 30 minutes with very little sperm [could be the age )]. The really bad news is that I will not be around to monitor them for the next few days. I had turned my aquamedic flooter skimmer to the max. It is now quite waterly and it produce 1/2 a cup every day. [which means it might over flow by wed ] The biggest issues is that now my giant squa is pinching [in the day] and gaping [in the nite]. I have no other place to house it since it is a little bigger than 1 ft. I just hope it survive for another 2 days or so. damn murphy law! things always goes wrong when I am away! I will take a close up when I return. thanks! and do let me know if there is anything else I should check for.
  15. haha, nope, that's not the one.... anyway, something definitely not too right about my tank. even my giant squasmos is stress. phosphate <0.03 NO3- about 25 ppm KH 9dkh Calcium about 500++ mag is around 1320 Ph is about 8 only. I think it could be the new lowered lighting position. I lowered my lights and set my photo period to 12 hours. this change my stress them out
  16. I changed 10% of the water after I saw it spawning. Previously, I drop the lights to be 6" from the water where it used to be 10" away. anyway, now my giant squasmos is behaving strangely. It is pinching when the lights is on, and it is gaping when the lights are off. I just hope that it wont die this few days while I am out of town damn scare now!
  17. Hi, I am currently using Ehiem 1260 as a return pump for my 5.5 ft tank. I am thinking of increasing the turn over rate by either adding another pump or changing my eheims. Here's 2 questions for advise: a. If I want to change my ehiem, what's the next best pump with a higher flow rate ? [what's the flow rate for my ehiem 1260 ?] b. If I add another pump and share the same pipe, will it cause stress to the pump, due to the added pressure ? What type of valve can I use to ensure that there is no backflow pressure on the pump ? Where to buy valve ? thanks
  18. I placed mine in the sump tank, but after awhile, the salt spray will get to your PL lights [if u have any]. In fact, after 6 months, my lights in the sump are very corroded. Plus, I was using a wood airstone, by a year, the whole air stone rotted to the core. I am not sure what impact it has but I read that oxygenated water helps to eliminate some of the bad bacteria. I was just maximizing my airpump since I was using them to kickstart my tank cycling.
  19. thanks! Here's some update: a. My tank is 15 months old and sandbed is 5-6". I think the problem could be the cumlative of rubbish trapped in my sump and filter box. I clean them out 1 month back. And I have remove all my ceramic media yesterday. hope that will solve the issues b. I found one of my clam in the heat yesterday. He being spewing lots of sperms. That could have resulted in the sudden spike Thanks gurus! I will change water again
  20. sorry, still a bit blur from the mid nite water change exercise. here's the resized pic. can a mod help me delete that giant pic ? thanks!
  21. Hi, I attached a pic of my clam in heat. It being sprewing for nearly 2 hours last nite. I changed 10% water immediately [i.e. 6 [coralife] pairs of water]. this morning, I saw my giantic squamos gaping. Have not test no3- yet coz I dun think it will be a good indication for now since my NO3- was spiking [see thread in general section] any advise on what shall i do ?
  22. hi, I am guessing it could be my missing anthias, probably die and rotted by now. Last week NO3- was <10ppm, this week is between 50 to 100ppm. Even if it is a dead, fish, I begin to suspect that it can cause so much damage. I have a 5.5ft"/150g tank. [and I am using the same selifest test kit for these tests] Back to dosing AZNO3- again, and took out all my ceramic media and bio balls. Totally empty my filter box. I am going to let my sandbed and some LR to be overtaken by algea for this week and hope to suck them all up [and wash my cannister] next weekend. hopefully, this algea can help me 'eat' up the NO3- ? I have a small refu with "grape" plant. Anyone has any clue on why this NO3- problem keep happening ?
  23. ya boy, which is why I begin to suspect whether 1 anthias can cause such damage. it could be anything. The only thing that has changed since last week is a. stop dosing AZNO3- b. added a couple of clams c. feed my sea fan twice a day [3 drops of Kent Marine invert food] d. Lowered my 2x150 lights to be 6" away from water [some green mushie breaching]. Hence sand bed became very brown. btw, my Phosphate looks 0 to me [using saliphest]. It was 0.5ppm 2 weeks ago. any other possible reasons ?
  24. have 5 bag of ceramic media and 200g of carbon to be given away [all in a coralife pail. collection at punggol or suntec
