  1. Wow nice tank! Where did you buy your fake corals (eg. brain, sps, etc)?
  2. Thanks andylee and somebody for your ideas! Will factor them in during my tank-planning.
  3. Wow, impressive! I feel better assured now. Thanks SoTongBall! Care to describe more about this Fox heat controller?
  4. Hi, I'm planning a 4x2x2 FOWLR tank soon but preferably without the chiller to save running costs. For lighting, I'm estimating to use FL based on about 1W per gallon ratio so my tank would need about 120W. Livestock possibly includes favorites such as tangs, angels, pygmy angels, clowns, shrimps, triggers, etc. My main concern is the risk to livestock if the water temp sustains around 30 degrees C or higher for prolong periods of time. Does anyone here have any sucess in keeping a FOWLR tank without chiller for the long term (eg. 2-3 years)? Sucess in terms of livestock being healthy, feeding, etc, not necessarily spawning. Appreciate any comments/ideas thanks!
  5. Interesting idea. How do you DIY this method?
  6. Hi All, I'm searching for a Windows-based MP3 Cutter or Editor that allows me to cut, join and edit my MP3 files. Folks here know any good and FREE (not "Free To Try") ones? Thanks in advance!
  7. Nice tank! How do you make your bottom look black/dark?
  8. Just got back from Bangkok. Yep, most of you are right. Not many marine stuff I came across. But tons of quality Bettas for those who like fighting fishes though. Thanks all though for posts!
  9. Going Bangkok soon. Are there any good marine LFS to recommend? Thanks!
  10. Thanks Reef Lover! But I was comtemplating something more in depth and thicker. Already have a few comprehensive books on marine aquarium.
  11. Hi All, Is Julian Sprung's The Reef Aquarium the only 'bible' on reef aquarium? I'm looking for other books which cover all aspects of reefkeeping deeply and in detail. Any other book suggestions? Thanks!
  12. Hi Creative Reefer, your new tank looks very nice and sleek! May I ask where you get it in Singapore? Thanks!
  13. Looks good! How many kg of LR you used? Are those fake plastic plants? What size is your tank? I'm contemplating a FOWLR too...
  14. Just enough to cover the starboard. Probably around 1" or so. Sand would be placed just at exposed places, ie. NO sand underneath LR. Guess some areas would eventually expose the starboard due to water currents and fish movement. This point I don't have solution yet. But thanks for bringing it up!
  15. I know but I still love the look of sand at tank bottom. Quess one must decide between DSB or BB from the start, since there's no effective method in between.
  16. Totally agreed. I was thinking this - how about just laying loose sand on top of starboard without any silicon sealing. And then siphoning sand up periodically and wash them and lay them back on top of starboard when required. Pros - Less worry of glass stress from LR since starboard is there to spread LR weight. Pros - Still have sand bed look. Pros - No coraline algae problem since periodic washing of sand. Cons - Wash sand periodically. This is the most sian part for me. What you guys think?
  17. I strongly believe the thieves had the original intention to export them, instead of selling them at LFS. Simply because the number stolen is too big and seahorses are not easy to sell at retail level. Has Reborn made a police report? The police could assist with Customs on recent export of live seahorses from Singapore. Just an idea...
  18. I was reading somewhere that one reefer made a starboard and silicon some substrate to starboard top (for the sand bottom look). Then he placed the cured starboard on glass bottom and re-scape live rocks on it as per normal. I have not tried this but sounds like a really good mitigated idea. Anyone tried this before?
  19. I used to arrange the live rocks on the glass bottom directly and then lay a thin layer of sand between rocks. Total sand depth was a mere thin 1" only. But do this with only large and fairly flat live rocks as base to avoid risk of glass stress. From time to time, I'll siphon the sand up (eg. during periodic water changes), wash them and re-lay the sand back in the tank. Was doing this for over 3 years for my tank with no problems. And washed sand looks really nice because they're white again after each time. But whatever way you decide, think most reefers prefer some sand (whether DSB or SSB) because they simply enhance your tank look so much. Just my 2 cents!
  20. Hi Asaki! Glad to know your batfish doing well. Care to post some pics for this rare fish? Thanks!
  21. I'm comtemplating a new 4 feet FOWLR tank. One issue I can't decide is whether to go DSB or BB for this tank. I like the look of DSB but prefer some of the new found benefits of BB tanks. Below are some questions I have. Please assume I use a strong skimmer and sump for both scenarios. - Is this DSB vs BB debate a big deal for FOWLR tanks? Does it really matter in the long run? - How about this idea - After arranging my LR in tank, I lay a very thin layer (eg. less than 1/4 inch) of fine sand on glass bottom just for aesthetic reasons. When I perform my water changes monthly, I siphon up entirely this thin layer of sand and washed them in fresh water before laying them back in tank. This is to remove detritus completely for maintenance. Do you think this method is detrimental to the LS? Or it is a good compromise between DSB and BB? Any comments welcome, thanks!
